Brilliant! Well right now I am staring at a screen editing videos and working out how to replace my steel toilet tank instead of having adventures it so it’s not all fun! However if you like recording guitar narrowboats have perfect acoustics! 8^)
Just found this video (four years late!) My father was born in Thorne and my parents married in the church you filmed. All a long time ago. Definite bit of nostalgia here.
Stunning! Great video, super scenery, excellent camera work and a brilliant commentary. The best bit? The smile on your face after leaving the boatyard. Thanks so much for taking me along with you. By the way, it was my fault that the key was left behind!
Great job on this episode, Robbie. Nice blend of face to camera, scenery from the cut, a bit of urban life and all set to some good music. Can't ask for more than that. Thanks for sharing and fair winds.
I loved this video, Robbie, thank you. It brought back memories of exciting times for me. I bought my boat in Thorne (Blue Water Marina) three years ago. I took my boat down the River Trent and then onto the Trent & Mersey Canal to Kidsgrove in 10 days. Took a train journey back up to Thorne South to get my car from the marina, then work the next day! phew! I have photos of the canal from Thorne to Keadby where it looked like a lawn, totally covered in duckweed and the water underneath was crystal clear. I am still living on my boat now and I love it. I like to tell people how horribly cold it is because I get fed up of being asked. Even when I try to tell them it's the same as a house..... if you don't put the heating on it is cold. But they never seemed convinced.
He he nice one Ben thank you for the comment, met some lovely people from Blue Water. Yes I’m the same I love it when people ask that question as if they think I live in a floating shed (not far off to be far) 8^)
It's funny how people in different parts of the world view the cold weather. It's -9C right now and I just finished plowing the snow from last night on my tractor. It's suppose to be -23C at night this Tuesday. I'll be warm with I come to visit and rent a narrowboat in the summer 2023. Looking forward to food and pubs everyday. Thanks for your videos. I'm working my way to the present day videos.
Thanks so much for showing us round Thorne. My father worked there as an optician when I was small, I can't claim to have a clear memory of the town. So you filled a gap ;-)
Great to see you up and cranking again after all your troubles. As before I'm loving the combination of scenery, music and commentary, not forgetting the mighty Lister. Keep on keeping on Robbie :-)
Hi ROBBIE IT IS SO GOOD TO SEE YOU & YOUR BOAT ALL THE TIME I LOOK AT ALL YOUR WORK EVERY DAY GOD BLESS YOU & YOUR BOAT GOING ALL OVER THE U.K. FROM TOM & GRACE MOOER FROM CORBY 👍
That was really good thank you...sliding bridge wow...great stuff. I've only found your channel recently and really enjoying the warts an' all approach...👍

What a great production that was....loved the chug chug music as the boat went on past the swing bridges worked really well. Some very good camera work in this one.....cheers for the trip and looking forward to the next video.....Bloody love Yorkshire
Only just discovered your videos. Myself and partner are leaving the bricks and mortar behind this December and moving onto a houseboat widebeam. Very exciting. Loving your editing and vlog style. ⭐️👍🏾
Can't believe you left the key behind! You need it on one of those elastic things you get for ID badges! Boats can be really cosy if you get the fire going well :) Keep crankin' it!
Another great vlog Robbie. I can imagine The Freedom of leaving the marina. Can’t wait to join you on the canals in May when I move onto a boat with my lovely husband and Kizzy the dog
Can I just ask, does it get cold on a boat?? Love the Yorkshire / Not Yorkshire map - that made me laugh out loud. Molly got up from lying in front of the fire to find out what all the fuss was about! Great vid as usual and I'd like to point out, I am a swing bridge virgin, there I said it - feel so much better now.......
Well jono tha gunna have t go it gu I'll be sat here waiting fe thi at top o tinsley flight giz a shout when tha ready I hope you do a better Yorkshire impression than than Robbie
Hi, I have enjoyed the yorkshire trip consider me the invisible crew member, if you talk to me make sure Know one hears you. I first started watching floating my boat, they are a great couple and what they achieved in the last year. also what you are presenting is awesome too. in spite of my TH-cam title may name is john from Nelson New Zealand.... still watching keep it up
Hi Robbie! Thanks for the video. It's interesting to see the different character of the world in winter. Most ignore this as they muck through the daily routine. Seems even the water is different. Thanks again. Merry Christmas!
Although I am a Bristolian born and bread, I have lived in Poland for over 6 years now, but 3 years ago I spent a week on my friends narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon canal, and a lock keeper told me that apparently many narrow boats are now made in Poland!!?
Yeah I did a boat move once for a wide beam that was built there... through London though, not across the sea. Will be going to a wedding in Poland next year with my family 8^)
Great video, Robbie. We took our new sailaway through there then down the Trent to West Stockwith at the end of June where we are now fitting her out. We have friends in Thorne and they love it there. Keep up the good work.
Robbie lad! Simply wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas, and all the best for a Happy New Year! Any plans for celebrating the hols? What ever you end up doing...enjoy! Stay warm, and here's to following more of your adventures in the New Year.
Thanks John you too!! I’m with my family in Dorset, house is full so no time for cranking it/vlogging but a video will be out tomorrow for you all the same! Cheers 8^)
Only just come across this vid of yours (although i have watched most of your others) Gill is still here in Dorset just mate but not the same as a while ago, i live in the vale myself and watch your vids as my virtual holiday...sort of, keep it up....nice.
Hi Rob great video in my neck of the woods now. I used to go fishing opposite Keadby ( pronounced Kidbe) Power Station, the old Power Station looked a little bit like Battersea but scaled down. I too am thinking of moving onto a boat in about a year or so, I have lots of boat friends who are all jolly nice of course so I’d like to say one day that we are all on the same boat.
Awesome, yep we’re all boaters at the end of the day. Spent some time chatting to a few night pike fishermen, although I think it was getting too cold even for them! 8^)
Hi Joe - thanks still a way to go but appreciate the support as always mate. Are you on twitter? I’ve a list there - for the ones with a Twitter accounts anyway!
beautiful Thorne!!! dn live in England anymore but loved to see the place i worked for more than a year. Had few troubles but it was still lovely and ya THE TRINITY ACADEMY and sport facility are missing on your video. all together a brilliant brief video . its 1.06 am , oops i need to go to bed . Good luck matie n i have subscribed you. ;-)
Hi Robbie, of course it gets cold. Lol... It would be neat if the River Trust would put electric sensors on the bridges. You cross the beam of light & the gate opens automatically. That would be nice... lol... But I don't think it would fly. It looked like it was a peaceful trip. You stay warm & keep on spanking it, Chris from Missouri
That’s a great idea Chris! Yeah or a remote control that would be good! Thanks for the comment, hope you’re also keeping warm - can’t remember where you said you were exactly but it looks like some cold weather is on it’s way over! 8^)
So sad to see these lovely towns falling into such stagnation. Glad to see I'm not the only one with a dippy memory. I went to the doctors Monday, only to be told I was exactly a 'month' too eary ..... Grrrrr!!! :-( That sliding bridge looked more like one of those 'torture' machines out of early James Bond movies .... Maybe WHY there's ony ONE ??? ;-) (Good to see you #Cranking it 'happily' again though)
Cold cold lol what on a boat never I've had my log burning stove going into overdrive central heating on under bunk heater and electric blanket😨 even the basins froze over.Robbie let me know when you're down next the Trent and Mersey have a good Christmas
Enjoying your Vid's Robbie , keep them coming ... though kinda funny for me to see my (late) Dad's home town of Thorne being reviewed , where he apparently did a Carpentry apprenticeship in one of the Boat yards back in the Day ..
PS.. Nottingham is where I was born and lived until I moved to New Zealand at the age of 36 with my wife and kids, they have all gone so heading back to the canals of UK in 4 or 5 months time.
Interesting! Terrible news I’m hearing about NZ/Christchurch today, my thoughts go out to those affected. I visited back in 2001, but I actually spent most of my time in Nelson and Wellington. Beautiful country full of (mostly) lovely people. 8^)
Robbie Cumming 🐻 I go ice fishing with my 2 sons sometimes over 3ft thick. The different barges there are awesome and your touring narration is spot on . Your little wood stove we have one in our ice fishing shack for the minus - 30s we get out on the lakes.
Hi again Robbie another interesting video with beautiful scenery love how you always attempt the accents of each part haha I shall try setting up a PayPal account so I can help out with some fundings for pub of the week and any thing you wish tbh. Cheers
Great videos Robbie...... can We join the crew?......... we bought a boat last year as a project. Really interested in your visit to Thorne as our boat was built there by TTmarine in 1984. Do you or any of your crew have any info about this company. All I know is the boat is really solid. We live a 'normal' life at the moment but Canal life beckons...... more scraping, painting and DIY and who knows, we'll be joining you soon. Keep those vids coming Robbie . Cheers, Jo and Mark
Hi Jo and Mark, interesting about boat but I imagine they have ceased trading same as my boat’s (John South). Of course you can join the crew, would be great to have your support. Details in the description! Good luck with your project! 8^)
I love the canals, of course, but I also enjoy the 360 look-around with the colour commentary you do so well. Btw, the snow (and the cold) was Made in Canada, exported for your pleasure without any Excise Tax. We have so much of it here, that we are mailing it to Africa and the tropics as a novelty item.
Brilliant video.. as a matter of interest. surly the CRT could fit a bit of kit to electric swing bridges that work via say an app or suchlike so that you could open and close them from your boat..just a thought 🧐🤔😉👍👍👍
The French have a remote control system for locks - i can see it working on our electric powered locks and yes swing bridges too - but wouldn’t want to take all the fun away now would we!
Don't know how far you are now, Bardney lock moorings have electricity hook up, but you need a card which you get from the lockie at Torksey. Mick in Stanilands is building me a shell next year, shame you had such problems when you were there.
Hi Robbie. Do you have a hot water bottle? - Really useful, this time of year - put it in the middle of the bed well before bedtime and it will warm the bed and the duvet. Laying your pillows on the bed, over the bottle, will warm them up too. And if you reheat the bottle just before bedtime it will keep you snug all night. (Works for me on my unheated boat) Happy Christmas!
Unheated boat?! That’s crazy!! I don’t tend to use my hot water bottle that often. I did have it out recently to warm my hands on during an ice cold cruise though!! 8^)
Robbie Cumming Dear Robbie, it's not as bad as I made it sound - was trying to keep my message short. I'm not a live-aboard, I've got a grp sailing boat, and it's got a diesel heater, but i'm not happy about sleeping with it running so I go to sleep in a rapidly cooling boat, and wake in a fridge. Hot water bottle keeps me warm in bed, and no risk of carbon monoxide. Have a great Christmas! Winston
I've driven through Thorne a couple of times. I've always thought, regarding derelict buildings, someone must own them (you'd soon find out if you went to buy it) so why aren't they made responsible for the upkeep of those buildings? And, if they can't afford to maintain them, then should be forced to sell them.
YES you are Stephanie! Amd if you watch the last vlog very closely you’ll see a little nod to you in the first part of the Crank it Crew section. So pleased you got a t shirt and hoodie, have just ordered some myself! 8^)
Excellent! I grew up in Keadby and hung around the locks and canal as a boy so really enjoyed your video. Did you venture out onto the Trent or turn around?? :)
He he thank you for sticking with me! I can't believe it either! Thanks for reminding me where your from as I do find it hard to keep track of everyone! 8^)
Excellent vlog Robbie.. I think the same question could be is it cold living in a house... btw what's the name of that music at time stamp 13:20 and is it available anywhere. Anyway look forward to the Christmas special saw you had a good time at the Christmas dinner with the other boat tubers. Cheers mate..
Hey Liam whats up thanks for the comment dude, the song you refer to is totally available to download for free - www.soundcloud.com/cobedy should do it.
Well I’ve got another cruising video coming up, and plans to keep moving in Jan, but am currently moored in Lincoln city marina for Christmas as the water has been frozen and needed permanent electric hook up to produce these videos/work day job! 8^)
elvis juice? ELVIS J U I C E?! next time you have a chat with these small pub brewers can you ask their opinion on this fad of alchoHops and what crimes does grapefruit actually cover (it's everywhere!) ? great video fella production/editing is getting well smart :)
Coming back up the Thames after lock keeper hours you had to wind the hydruilic lock pumps by turning a large stainless steel wheel. Which in summer is pretty hot work so I took my jacket off, 3 more lacks later remembered my jacket which had all my keys in the pocket. So had to turn back and rewind 2 locks and the run the tow path back to where I'd left. Turn around again and repeat the process, boy did I sleep well that night. Never did that again!!!!!!!
Hi Robbie, My family all live in Christchurch, and my daughter had to park in the street waiting for her child who of course was in lockdown for 4 hours. The death count is on course to be possibly%) I went through 40 earth quakes and as I remember the big one was 8.9 (play the violin as I say) I need to focus on mid year or there about. My aim is to paint it black with a white fern down the roof, it's name: my waka, I think you might know what that means, cheers Robbie. thanks..
Aye, just finished watching your lastest vlog, what am I gonna do now, lol. Mate if your ever on the Basingstoke Canal or Kennet I come down and buy you a beer and a curry.
Robbie, I'm now addicted to your videos. What you're doing now is my dream. Keep up the good work.
Brilliant! Well right now I am staring at a screen editing videos and working out how to replace my steel toilet tank instead of having adventures it so it’s not all fun! However if you like recording guitar narrowboats have perfect acoustics! 8^)

A fantastic adventure with really amazing music.

Another great vlog Robbie. I can imagine The Freedom of leaving the marina. Can’t wait to join you on the canals in May when I move onto a boat with my lovely husband and Kizzy the dog
Thank you! Bet you can’t wait!! 8^)
You need to get one of those heat powered fans that sit on top your heater/stove. They help send the heat through out tremendously
We have one in are cottage and it works a charm I would recommend one any day of the week
Ha ha love it, poor Molly! Yeah swing bridges aren’t the most fun things so your probably better putting that off for a while! 8^)
Well jono tha gunna have t go it gu I'll be sat here waiting fe thi at top o tinsley flight giz a shout when tha ready I hope you do a better Yorkshire impression than than Robbie
Don’t forget your key again robbie😁😁👏👍
Wow I did that stretch to Keadby with my friend. My friend left the key in the same swing bridge, we also had to go back for it.
Love the scenery! I bet Christmas is cool on a narrowboat. Stay warm & looking forward to the next one 😉

Facebook vlog again. You and David are the tops👍
Great! I’m not on Facebook so thanks for sharing? Is that what you mean?!
Robbie Cumming nope. Fab vlog. You and David are tops on the vlogs stakes!
Ah ok thanks!
Ridden my bike on grass towpath...hell...hard and bike destroying...loved this vlog...thanks
I find cuddling up to a nice big bearded man VERY effective for beating the winter blues.
Bloody hell! It’s me face in’t Old Vault!
PS.. Nottingham is where I was born and lived until I moved to New Zealand at the age of 36 with my wife and kids, they have all gone so heading back to the canals of UK in 4 or 5 months time.

Old sheffielder love ur vid, would love a barge here in Winnipeg but with 2ft thick ice I can only canoe in Sommer 🐻
You're having me on! 24 inches thick? That's insane. No wonder Canadians are so fond of ice hockey! 8^)
Robbie Cumming 🐻 I go ice fishing with my 2 sons sometimes over 3ft thick. The different barges there are awesome and your touring narration is spot on . Your little wood stove we have one in our ice fishing shack for the minus - 30s we get out on the lakes.

That’s very kind of you thanks Jermain!! 8^)
That was a good production in all respects. May I give a massive 👍 for the tune at 13.15 (or maybe 13.20) 😂
Thanks Norman! One person has said it’s overplayed but most love it (and so do I - otherwise I wouldn’t include it!) 8^)
Robbie Cumming yeah I saw the negatives that’s why I posted positive.😉
You're a nice fellow, Norman. I like you
Squidgy Quijabo Thanks - it’s good to have a balance of views.👍

So it's faster to walk back than turn around and go back on NB Naughty lass? Or did you just need some time away from the tiller 😁
Yep faster to walk sadly!! Especially with all those swing bridges!
Nice one Robbie..... sent you a few shekels to keep you warm......... crank on.
Got ‘em! Thanks again! Merry Crankmas!!
Your filmography is an absolute work of art ... Sub , sub and sub 👍
Thank you Papa Laz! 8^D
Just a quick question. Does your fire throw much heat out to keep you warm
Don't know how far you are now, Bardney lock moorings have electricity hook up, but you need a card which you get from the lockie at Torksey. Mick in Stanilands is building me a shell next year, shame you had such problems when you were there.
Good old Mick! You’ll have a fine boat. I’m in Lincoln area now so it’s all good! 8^)
Robbie Cumming
Dear Robbie, it's not as bad as I made it sound - was trying to keep my message short.
Winston
Oh I get it! Thanks Winston you too 8^)
"Yorkshire/not Yorkshire" on the map made me think of Tom Wrigglesworth's dad in the Hangups series. 😅😅😍😍
I've driven through Thorne a couple of times. I've always thought, regarding derelict buildings, someone must own them (you'd soon find out if you went to buy it) so why aren't they made responsible for the upkeep of those buildings? And, if they can't afford to maintain them, then should be forced to sell them.
Great video Robbie! I got my Crank It Crew tshirt and hoodie. They're ace! I'm a producer too (least I think I am)
Cool! Yes I did go up the Trent - but that’s coming up after Christmas! 8^)
Hi Robbie, wonderful vlog! Would love to see you playing on open mic night! Do you do the music for your videos?
I do! But I’m not very comfortable playing live (classic extroverted introvert) unless joined by a band! 8^)
Has it been a year, wow. I have been watching since Liverpool. (Wanted to say Portland, but that's here in the US.) Either way love it man.
He he thank you for sticking with me! I can't believe it either! Thanks for reminding me where your from as I do find it hard to keep track of everyone! 8^)
Nice going, Robbie. How far did you have to back track to regain your key? Great vid!
I think it was about 1.5 miles!
Slowly catching up, always a few years behind everyone else.....
What are all the silver balls in the sky at 11:37 ???
Hey Robbie when do you hit Nottingham or Worksop Canal
Not sure... depends on work and if I can go out into the Wash 8^o
Hi Robbie, this may be addressed elsewhere, but are the windows single or double glazed? It is possible to get double glazed windows for a narrowboat?
Single and yes I think so…
Excellent vlog Robbie..
Nice one Robbie...
Are you going to keep moving for the winter or hold up somewhere?
Well I’ve got another cruising video coming up, and plans to keep moving in Jan, but am currently moored in Lincoln city marina for Christmas as the water has been frozen and needed permanent electric hook up to produce these videos/work day job! 8^)
elvis juice? ELVIS J U I C E?! next time you have a chat with these small pub brewers can you ask their opinion on this fad of alchoHops and what crimes does grapefruit actually cover (it's everywhere!) ? great video fella production/editing is getting well smart :)
Will do cheers! 8^)
Blimey what a nightmare! 8^)
My aim is to paint it black with a white fern down the roof, it's name: my waka, I think you might know what that means, cheers Robbie. thanks..
Oh I’m sorry to hear that, they must be so shaken by it all (as if the earthquakes weren’t bad enough). My waka ~ is waka Maori for boat?!
...do you often have to wait your turn at these locks ?
Sometimes yes!
Hello Robbie hope all is well. Well if the "CHESTERFIELD" ever actually gets all the way to chesterfield then the curry is still on me.
Aye, just finished watching your lastest vlog, what am I gonna do now, lol.
Mate if your ever on the Basingstoke Canal or Kennet I come down and buy you a beer and a curry.
Ha ha cheers, yes sounds great!! 8^D
