Dude! I happened upon CBD on BBC4 last week, watched all 4 episodes on the iPlayer, and was *just* saying to my girlfriend how I’m gutted I couldn’t see any more of them. Then found your channel! Great times. Keep it up :)
I had an accounting prof (twice), who started off each semester with, "When you're working on a balance sheet for hours and hours and it still won't balance, stop, go to the fridge, slam down 5 beers as fast as you can. It still won't balance, but you won't care." :-)
Not often someone lets you see them in despair, but there is always hope that it will pass, and it does! Thank you for your honesty; there needs to be more of that. Superman is after all, only a drawing.
After "Diaries" series 5, I'm gradually working my way (backwards) through your videos. I thought I had watched a fair few so hopefully I'll meet myself in the middle at some point. You deserve a gold medal for sure. Weed-Master!! Well done 🙂
Loving the new series, Robbie. Thank you so much. Not only wonderful entertainment but I am learning a lot about our country. My maternal grandfather was a bargee in Birmingham in the early part of the twentieth century and although I've never been on a narrow boat I love anything to do with canals and narrow boats. Listening to your comments about your lifestyle and your young lady and the dichotomy it presents, can I give you this advice? I lost my darling wife and soul mate two years ago and I have been a lost soul ever since. We had twenty five wonderfully happy years together and I am so grateful. I even had to fly to Ireland, I who had never previously left these shores, to be with her, even having to leave a needy and blackmailing mother. I am here to tell you that the most important thing you can have in your life is the love and companionship of a wonderful partner. Love is the most important thing you can have. Shalom.🐨
Discovered narrow boating last year when we hired one on the Kennet and Avon. Loved it so much we are doing it again this year! - Wrenbury to Llangollen. Love your canal boat diaries on BBC 4 by the way.
A rare treat on a Tuesday evening.....a double helping of RC. No sooner watched CBD on BBC and up.popoed your notification. I'm going for a lie down in a darkened room
That was me on Saturday :)) Ran aground & every time I tried to pole her off, the wind blew me back. People passing on the towpath said "aren't you strong" and "It must be a lovely relaxing life" Just as well you can't buy a gun here :))
Wonderful video Robbie. Shows your perserverence, courage and bloody determination to get the job done. 2 days to do nine miles - poor you. Put your feet up, enjoy your beer - you've deserved it!
The Naughty Lass has metal, Robbie C has mettle. Well done for your perseverance 💪tough stuff! But these are the times that define us, builds character! Also, how handsome you are without your glasses on! 🤓
Well done Robbie, what a trauma of a journey you had going to Ellesmere Post. Great Vlog as always. You really deserved that beer at the end. Take care.
Ahhh I love this! I’ve always wondered what the canal boats are like!!! And the editing and videography is slickkkk! Good luck with the drone 😜💖 - Sean x
Well Robbie those gadgets are great ! But a flint in the wilds @ -40 🇨🇦 is my go 2 🍺 71+ Yorkshire expat. 👍thumbs up for your determination & spirit fella HELLS Bells
Brilliant! I can totally identify with your struggles I felt the same traversing the Wednesbury, Walsall and Tame Valley Canals. All adds to the sense of adventure though 👍🍺🍺
First off, you are a filmmaker Robbie, and darn good one at that, someone who plans his shots with a lot of thought going into them. Secondly, your also a blanket weed viking who took it on and survived to come out the other end, in victory and relatively unscathed!
Hi Robbie. 18 hours stuck because of wind and weed is an awful prospect. I might have a solution. I said, "I might". Think your boat's heavy? It weighs only the water it's displacing. So, try this. Attach a long rope, about the length of the 'Naughty Lass', to somewhere central on the roof and at least a third of the boat's length from the prow. go ahead and pull. Just lean back and keep the pressure on, no need to break your back doing it. The boat will move and in no time you'll be able to keep up a gentle walking pace. This way, you won't have to go down the weed hatch at all. If the wind is blowing you onto the side, it'll be more difficult, so you'll have to pull harder to get the pace up, but this time, tie your tiller over so that the rudder is wanting to turn the boat off the side and into the wind. This can vary from well over, but not too far, for a strong wind to almost centre for a light wind. Once you've got the pace up, the rudder should keep you off the side. My 'get out' clause is that I said it might work. I've done it myself and it worked for me. Good luck and please keep the videos coming. I'm enjoying them immensely. EDIT. Ah! Sorry Robbie, I see that further down, it's been suggested and you've tried it. Still amazing vids though, so thanks again for them.
Another brilliant video Robbie, that journey through all those weeds looked horrendous and very stressful, good work in getting through it, physically and mentally, take care, stay safe
Sorry to see you having to struggle through the blanket weed from Chester. I hope it's not so much of a problem now boats are on the move again. Lovely to see my bit of the world. It's funny, I took on my house on 1st June 2020 a few hundred yards away as you headed pass. I could have come help you if I'd known :)
From all that wickedly nasty water weed to the dilapidated and abandoned boats...That has to be the most sorrowful canal you've shown me. There was a grand pond I used to fish in my youth that was taken over by the same nasty water weed. Nasty stuff! Raising my morning coffee to you and hoping the return trip wasn't a nightmare as well. Cheerio Robbie
Hi Robbie, Hope all is well. My boat can just be seen in the distance on this latest video with you cruising through the "ghost town" lol on your way to Ellesmere Port it was my previous mooring Top Farm, Croughton. My boat "Meanderist" its just past the nb where the tent is on the banking but maybe due to editing I didn't get a good view of it. Loving the new series by the way!
Had a similar thing happen to us yesterday (not 18hours though) and your lister sounds just like mine. I feel your pain. Oh and boy is the water cold now brrrrrr weed hatch Blues. Write a tune for us ;)
Hi Robbie, cor! you really know how to live it up. All that blanket weed to yourself and nobody to share it with. Most I ever had was plastic shopping bags and once, a duvet. Often wonder where the poor bugger went who was using it. Take care mate, we're not quite out of the quagmire (or weed) yet. Kindest regards. B.
Thanks for your videos, Robbie. I really enjoy your style. I watched your Canal Boat Diaries this week and saw when you fell in the canal. I am glad you were OK. I could hear your engine was still running. I too fell in the canal recently and ended up in hospital for a week. I will be unable to be a Part Time Boater for the next few months! If you would care to check it out, I would appreciate your viewpoint on the scenario that is in last week's episode and any safety tips you may like to share Keep safe and I look forward to your next video. 🙂👍
Cool you got to see a Beluga. I remember as a kid when a Pregnant Guppy landed in Phoenix to refuel at the Air Guard (basically, USAF Reserve) station at Sky Harbor International Airport. This was probably 50 years ago.
Nice one Robbie, nice to see how you got to Ellesmere port for the start of your BBC programme. Really enjoyed the BbC series, doing trip over more programmes would have been good, maybe a 13 week series for series 3?
Hi Robbie Did I see a plate from the Basingstoke Canal (my local) that you tried to turn into a GoPro mount? I know you haven't been there but you should display it with pride and try to visit some day. Also you should have gone down the locks in the museum - there are some much better moorings for visitors down there with a security gate. Jeff

Hi mate. Chester is my home city. I’m lucky enough to see the Belugas and now the Beluga XLs coming in and out of Airbus. Sorry to see the weed was so bad between Chester and Ellesmere Port. Is that something that the Canal and Riverboat Trust do anything about? Take care. Nick

Really useful signs up there! “Ellesmere Port 0 Miles”. Really really ............ 🙈🙈
All that pretty greenery along the canal has price it seems. Lovely video.
Great vlog Robbie showing the less glamorous side of boating ,you certainly needed a 🍺 or two after that ordeal.

It’s one of my faves too. Yeah I said it passed in the previous vlog?
Rob, how are you doing today? Love your vlogs, your humor and how you express yourself that I want to click a beer together and say to you happy life.

Was this close 👌to calling you about it was that bad😂

damn good episode, glad you're doing ok
Hi Rob. Another excellent video. I saw your pain with the weed. I'm unsure about narrow boats, but on our Scouting rib we a weed and rope cut fitted.
Rope Cutters
Protect your prop from being fouled by rope or weeds. The simple shaft driven rope cutter rotates with the shaft, which in turn instantly cuts any rope, weeds or debris picked up or snagged by the propeller. All Prop Protector rope and weed cutters are made from 316 stainless steel. There are clamp on or slide on versions for imperial or metric shafts. Clamp on rope cutters are available with an extra large blade version too.
Yeah I know about those but how they would cope with wire or mattresses (they’ve been known to get tangled in props!) i’m not sure 😂
Nice one Robbie just had a speckled hen myself with that blanket weed would have finished the full box. Good luck on return journey

Yes I believe my friends ‘Minimal List’ did it. They said you can’t actually go onto the Dee though. Shame!
