Your channel is a pleasant reminder of how beautiful Britain is once you get outside the cities. I live in Canada, which is 41 times the size of Great Britain but has half the population. I was living in a beautiful village, Long Hanborough, Oxon . One early spring or late winter, there came a deluge upon all central England. The flooding was horrendous. We volunteered to save sheep with their early spring lambs, rescued a lock ( husband & wife) keeper and their furniture. Bother what a mess. It was an experience I'll always remember. Jolly time 'Cranking-It," look forward to your next.
We have one of those bucket 'loos' in our little pop-up camper/trailer. They work but need a little "care" both in use and when cleaning out. There is a world of stuff that you don't need to deal with if you live in a bricks and mortar house that people have invented.
Brain,so people don't wish to live in bricks and mortar or can't afford to it's a matter of choice,at least with a canal boat you are not stuck with neighbors you can't stand.if we had been alot younger we would have bought a wide beam,but after fulfilling our dream of living abroad for many years ,when we relocated back to the UK we were getting on and walking was an issue.

If so, then you are correct in what you say about choice but I fear you have missed my point by a "Wide Country Mile". I know full well that living on a boat or in a caravan (as they are called in the UK), brings with it a load of non-typical for a brick built house ways to do things; THAT was my point. I have spent plenty of time on board both large and small sailing vessels as well as owning RV's as they are called here in the USA. I lived in the UK from birth for 45 years until the year 2001 when I emigrated to the USA. If I had to return to the UK, would have loved to have picked up a wide beam to live in, but prices have gone way up to silly levels for one of those in decent shape. Don't you agree? In any event, I am most unlikely to do anything other than vacation back in the "old country" now, so that point is moot.

Flooding is always scary, no matter where you are with a boat. Living on one at the same time had to be traumatic. We had a pontoon boat tied to a floating dock and there was mass flooding on a local lake. The water rose clear past the poles holding the dock in place and our boat, along with others, just simply floated away. Luckily the patrol caught them before they went over a dam. Scary. It's said that more people don't be more concerned about their property and check on the status. Hey, take care out there Robbie.

Life on the Calder. Happens pretty much every winter along that stretch. You've probably heard the tales of boats ending up on the towpath at Broad Cut, boats washed over the weir at Wakefield Pond etc. Keeps you on your toes!
I’ve got a photo somewhere of a narrowboat parked on the towpath at the Navigation pub. If you know the area my friends live nearby and their house is always on flood warning
@@Life_Of_AL I know the area very well, friend had a mooring down there until recently when they closed all the moorings down. Which boat is it you have the picture of? I think the most recent was Jester which ended up on the towpath at the leisure moorings, and before that it was Pipistrelle which ended up on the towpath up beyond the pub and the railway bridge. There may have been others inbetween that I didn't get to see with my own eyes. There's video of Pipistrelle being dragged back off somewhere on youtube, it's changed hands since and the last I heard it now resides somewhere up the L&L. I believe Jester was cut up right there on the towpath and scrapped, I'll ask its owner next time I see him.
From now on I'll be wearing my life jacket and gumboots to watch canal vlogs. Quite frightening how a flood strips your security and throws in a bucket load of anxiety to fill the gap. I could've done with a pint of salt, but as per usual, but it's funny how just by being there you can absorb the atmosphere without downing a drop. Still, it's not quite the same is it, but it did get my mind off that flood. Thanks, short arm Robbie, for showing us the facts of life as a vlogger, how any minute the camera clamp or drone can pack a wobbly, and cold hard cash is the only remedy. Or you can be at the mercy of a raging torrent and the only answer is, you require an extra shitter on the bow. Thanks again Robbie, keep your anchor at the ready, and take care.
We were out walking yesterday around Wheelock canal area..and canal so busy..good weather and enjoying the different boats and the various antics of the bank holiday crews. Some funny stuff going on..but everyone friendly and having a good time..made boat life seem fun...but I bet you full time boaters dread the bank holidays..lots of novices getting in your way! Safe travels👏
Yep i usually don’t travel during holidays if i can help it! Although where i am at the Mo there are some big locks and hardly any hire boats so it doesn’t matter as much!

Robbie I have a suggestion. Some how ( only if you can) sit on top of your Naughty Lass with your laptop editing your videos. All you would really need is a portable "beech" chair and a make shift table for the laptop. This way you can sit and watch those gorgeous sunsets ☺️

Hi Robbie, I had a Mavic Mini, when the props do that bleep and ‘twitch’ it means the ones that are twitching need replacing. On your video, the two props attached to that motor are out of balance and need to be replaced. Don’t waste money on non-DJI ones as you’ll just be throwing money away.
I signwrit an Elsan bucket last week painted red with FIRE in black lettering preceded by break ,wind and .Always enjoyable on the northern navigations 👍
The figure of 3 locks was my playground as a kid 64 years ago. We used to hitch rides to a fro on the barges carrying coal to the power station at Thornhill. Your pub of the week is a favourite of mine and I usually drink Blonde beer. Exposing your cludgy could tempt someone to steal it if they were that desperate. Then the Police would have to look into it without anything to go on. I remember the flood at those locks, it was a total disaster. A bit further along the cut take a stroll down the Dewsbury Arm to Saville Basin where there is another super little pub called The Leggers. It is a converted stable and hayloft where canal horses were kept in days gone by.

Not sure if it would have been at the same time as yours, but we had a BIG flood a few months ago. The river was up about 10 to 12ft which in turn raised the canal by about 4ft... fortunately I had recently fitted riser rails on our mooring so as the water went back down (very quickly!) we dropped back into place without getting caught up. A local boat wasn't so lucky and ended up marooned out of the water. Glad all turned out OK for you and your fellow moorers in the end.

You never really think of such problems on the canals as to what was raised in this episode. I'm glad all worked out well, albeit an irregular sleeping pattern for the night but such a wonderful gesture of you to do Robbie. I bet that made you tired for the next few days trying to catch up. I'm glad everyone was safe, and what a lovely sense of community shown with all looking out for each other. Another wonderful insight into your unique world. But, alas, another place I'm familiar with which means.....yep, another customer I've delivered to lol Burmatex in Ossett and not so far away was Autoneum in Heckmondwike. Beautiful part of the world! Stay safe dude!! Some are worse than others. Calder is particularly bad, even with all the new flood mitigation measures they've put in place. It flows fast and once the flood control has done all it can the water rises fast. I'm moored further downstream, and the boat next-but-one to me went under the boom and over the weir and the one next to that ended up on its side the other year.
Excellent video, Robbie. Still by far, the best 'watch' IMO. Impressive agility as well - hope you can still do all that leaping around when you're in your sixties. Atb. 👍

You wanna try having a permanent mooring on the river Nene just before the last lock where it turns tidal the other side. The scaffolding poles were very long put it that way. The white horses whipped up by the wind you could surf on 😂😂😂. Keep going Robbie. 👍🏼
Why was it scary ? You were at home on a computer looking at it . Are you so frightened by the world that a picture scares you ? Wasn't even a decent flood . Want to see a real flood try running tow boats on the Mississippi when it is at flood plus 30 ft.

Oi oi, time to meet up for a beer me thinks 😁 We sometimes get it bad at Selby when the river Ouse floods and the lock from the canal and the pathways get flooded, meaning if you are in ya boat you can't get off it and if your not you can't get in it. Hasn't happened for about a year now though.
Can you imagine being out on the canal with all that flooding, it would be pretty scary. Over here in the USA, the bucket with toilet seat is called a "Honey bucket", and yes I have one and have used it out in the desert quite a bit, usually without any privacy curtains. Now that looks like a proper POTW.
Bucket type pots are used a lot in AK. I have an out house but I use a bucket type that I empty into the outhouse. In my old age I don’t enjoy using the outhouse when it’s -40C. I’m going to make a composted this summer which will be nicer.

You never really think of such problems on the canals as to what was raised in this episode. I'm glad all worked out well, albeit an irregular sleeping pattern for the night but such a wonderful gesture of you to do Robbie. I bet that made you tired for the next few days trying to catch up. I'm glad everyone was safe, and what a lovely sense of community shown with all looking out for each other. Another wonderful insight into your unique world. But, alas, another place I'm familiar with which means.....yep, another customer I've delivered to lol Burmatex in Ossett and not so far away was Autoneum in Heckmondwike. Beautiful part of the world!

Some are worse than others. Calder is particularly bad, even with all the new flood mitigation measures they've put in place. It flows fast and once the flood control has done all it can the water rises fast. I'm moored further downstream, and the boat next-but-one to me went under the boom and over the weir and the one next to that ended up on its side the other year.
Ah bud that’s a shame - and slightly ironic as Marsden - looking up the steep hills from the canal - reminds me a lot of switzerland!
Excellent video, Robbie. Still by far, the best 'watch' IMO. Impressive agility as well - hope you can still do all that leaping around when you're in your sixties. Atb. 👍

Another great Vlog Robbie, I’m on that stretch on my bike fairly regularly. Hope we see u at Marsden tomorrow, its a place we walk around most weekends, it’s a beautiful part of the country.
You wanna try having a permanent mooring on the river Nene just before the last lock where it turns tidal the other side. The scaffolding poles were very long put it that way. The white horses whipped up by the wind you could surf on 😂😂😂. Keep going Robbie. 👍🏼

Why was it scary ? You were at home on a computer looking at it . Are you so frightened by the world that a picture scares you ? Wasn't even a decent flood . Want to see a real flood try running tow boats on the Mississippi when it is at flood plus 30 ft.

Nice mix of exciting (?) times on the canals.. glad you still have that spring in your step. It would have taken me 20 minutes to get down off that roof…. 10 minutes to make a plan and another 10 to try to do it without breaking something🤬🤣💜

We sometimes get it bad at Selby when the river Ouse floods and the lock from the canal and the pathways get flooded, meaning if you are in ya boat you can't get off it and if your not you can't get in it.
Hasn't happened for about a year now though.
Can you imagine being out on the canal with all that flooding, it would be pretty scary. Over here in the USA, the bucket with toilet seat is called a "Honey bucket", and yes I have one and have used it out in the desert quite a bit, usually without any privacy curtains. Now that looks like a proper POTW.

Bucket type pots are used a lot in AK. I have an out house but I use a bucket type that I empty into the outhouse. In my old age I don’t enjoy using the outhouse when it’s -40C. I’m going to make a composted this summer which will be nicer.
