Great job, I love the idea of using a drill to spin it and more evenly get paint everywhere. I did not see you prime it first. I tried both with and without primer and using primer made the finish last until I replaced them again. Not using primer had them showing rust after a year or so.
Good technique Alimech.. hope that paint is durable : ) , Im going to try the VHT primer/paint.. probably use q-tips to thoroughly hit the inside of the fins.. this is a replacement set of 'corrosion resistant' rotors that failed after one year.. I will have to make a oven out of cinderblocks and heat gun for the baking... gotta be creative! thanks for the vid !
Question... why are you not putting clear coat after the 3 coats of paint, and why no primer? Not a criticism, I’m genuinely curious why that isn’t done as well... great video BTW, I would have never thought to paint the rotors.
Great suggestions bro,the reson I didn't use primer and clear coat, because I couldn't find high temperature primer and clear coat... maybe I will this time
What type of knife you use to cut the tape? I have all types of precision knives but dang that thing worked awesome. I believe im goina paint mine in few days before I put them on
you could use some sort of zinc spray. It will last longer than high temp paint, also prevents rusting much better, and it wont effect heat dissipation at all
These rotors look pretty cool! Where did you get the drilled rotors from I can’t find any auto parts stores that regularly sell drilled and or slotted rotors?
Would be a lot easier if you just use a sheet of plastic to mask off the face of your rotor instead of using 5 rolls of masking tape. You could also reuse the plastic on the other rotors.
I attached the rotor on a drill to rotate it constantly, and while it was rotating i was spray painting, and thats how i got the paint evenly everywhere
drillholes will rust and the pad surface never wares the whole rotor face. so whatever you didnt paint and masked off will rust.. better off just paint rotor fully
Yeah lets paint whole disk, install with old pads to clean it, drive on the street with no braking power, come home if you don't hit nobody, remove everything, install new pads. Good plan
@@deseremere If you were going to go that far to paint them you would just have the car up on axle stands with the old pads in rather than driving down the road 😂
You do know u shouldnt paint the mating face of the disc right? Paint expands under heat and has been known on occasions to swell putting pressure on the wheel bolts and stripping them or shearing heads of causing wheels to fly off and causing bad accidents !
your gonna need a boat load of source for this one. Never heard any such thing. If wheel bolts stripped, that was installer error. there is no way in hell "paint swelling" could pull bolts out, unless your hubs are made of balsa wood.

Absolutely not pointless, I'm going to have to replace my rotors because they've corroded so badly in the middle (vented disc). I drive so economically that it would take 1 million km to need to replace the rotors because of wear, but due to rust I have to replace them every 5 years or so without rust protection.
This is the most correct video on how to paint rotors. I ended up retouching painted rotors the way he painted first time.
Thanks for tuning in

No problem

The drill gun roller is impressive
Thanks, it was my dads
If it's a new rotor you'll need to scuff up the surface before you paint it or the paint will just fall off.
How ?

Paint the whole rotor, much easier the brake pads will remove the paint
@@Mr03HarleyDavison That's a big no. It might be easier, but the paint will end up on the pads - great for skating, but not for braking lol

Pretty clever. I was thinking about dunking the rotor to get the fins real good. What do you think about that
did you end up dunking them?

how long did it last? did it end up rusty, peeling or chipping off? thanks
No longer have the car, but the time I had the car, nothing happened to the paint, make sure to use heat resistant paint and it will last longer

with plastic bag, i can cover the whole rotor but i want to cover just the pad surface and with tape the edges will be sharp after i remove the tape
Nice video, do you need to sand the painted area first or is it ok just to straight paint them from the box ?
One brake will clean the paint, but I mask tape the pad area before painting

drillholes will rust and the pad surface never wares the whole rotor face. so whatever you didnt paint and masked off will rust.. better off just paint rotor fully
That's a good idea l, thanks for watching and the idea...
That could be dangerous cause the paint might gum up and reduce braking power
No, with first brake, the pad cleans the paint one the rotor, keep in mind, most aftermarket rotors comes painted like this, so dont worry
you should not cover the contactczone because the pads doesn't cover it completly so you'll get rust where you haven't painted.
Why did you bother making them up? The pads would rub the bits off that you need bare in seconds. Plus the cross drilled holes can still rust.
because that paint gets stuck under the brake pads
I suppose a good way of doing it would be to use old brake pads to remove the paint then just change out the pads
