  • in the first part of the video is playing the holo audio may dac L2 with his internal usb; in the second part is playing the msb analog dac with his usb (premium usb II). With vitus RI101 integrated amp and marten oscar duo speakers i think the msb has a slightly better imaging and voices positioning .. especially with audiophile recordings (with the other set up in my house .. pass and wilson the holo was instead better)... however the holo is warmer and as the ability to make sound better poor recordings...

    Hy everyone! Thanks Gianmarco for sharing this short comparative between those two dacs. I think the cat reaction says it all. To me, the MSB is more silibance (voice and cimbals) and have less bass extension. Soundstage, position macro and micro dynamics is not something that I can discern. The May sound more tonally natural.
    The May KTE is a steep above the L2 version (by far, not less..).

    I like the sound of the MSB more, but I am biased because I own a Rockna, the sounds take way longer to dye out than with the first part which shows way more ambient, both are top notch but the MSB makes my 🔔 ring

    Whoever says the differences between higher end audio equipment is so slight , it makes no real world consequences, needs to look at this video to rethink everything they thought. The second arrangement with the msb analog dac was so smooth, seductive and elegant, even the cat had to walk away in disbelief.

    The MSB seems to have tighter bass and more resolution while the May sounds smoother with longer decays. Mays soundstage might be a tad wider too.

    Another easy win for the world's greatest Dac under $40k the Holo May! It resolves the bass guitar with more definition (it becomes muddy with the MSB) and the May both defines and separates out the rhythm guitar far better (which almost disappears with the MSB). The May incidentally also slays the MSB Discrete and Premier models which are also fuzzy like the Analog. The competition only starts to get interesting at MSB Reference level ($40k). Could you please demo the MSB Reference against the Holo May on the same very fine equipment you have? :)

      @@gianmarcogervasi6013 They cost a lot of zloty in the country I currently live in but I will keep it in mind. ;) Btw I am thankful to see your Holo May comparisons. Many reviewers and sellers are afraid to as this particular component destroys the "you get what you pay for rule" in my view. I have tested the May (via youtube) against multiple famous brands and so far the only ones that sounded maybe a little better were the two top MSM models, but they were also used in extremely expensive systems (around $500k). So a like for like comparison would be interesting. But even if was edged out by those two, given its price, the Holo May is for me the greatest hifi component of the 21st century so far.

      Not my experience at all. I bought a Holo may ex demo from the importer with about 1000 hours on it. Msb discrete with 2 power supplies destroyed it. Sold it to a friend who two weeks later heard my discrete in his system and then sold his may and bought a discrete. Then another mate with Holo may heard my discrete, sold his may and bought a discrete. In Australia Holo may is 8500 Aussie and Msb discrete with two power supplies and quad rate usb module is about 22000 Aussie. I’ve now traded my Msb discrete in on a brand new Msb premier with power base power supply and pro isl connection so about 42000 dollars that’s how much I love the Msb days. Holo may is a excellent dac but there are other days which are better. Denafrips terminator plus was as good just different when we compared the Denafrips docs to the Holo may. Msb analog dac is a old dac and nowhere near as good as the new models.

      @@lpg3390 From my listening, the MSB Discrete and Premier in base form had very muffled leading edges and were a world away from both Holo May and MSB Reference. I do accept if you buy external LPSU modules that can make a major difference and it is one reason the May beats most Dacs (andy most I mean everything except MSB) quite easily. In the review at hand I think the Gustard has the MSB Analog just covered but indeed that is a discontinued model. Holo May gives a less coloured midrange and deeper soundstage compared to all the Denafrips. Maybe once Holo May gets updated it can jump in the pool against MSB Discrete/Premier with separate LPSUs. It is not bad for a version one - especially for the price - and the overall design shares a lot of similarity with MSB and was most likely inspired by it. In my best system for 30,000 Euro (mid-range) the Holo May is the Dac and the ATC SCM 40A are the speakers.

      @@connorduke4619 don’t get me wrong I really loved the Holo may. After all I bought one. I preferred it in most ways to the various Denafrips. The Msb discrete with two power supplies absolutely killed the may in 4 different audio systems. My mates don’t buy 25 thousand dollar days (Aussie dollars) unless it’s a very big improvement. My system is a couple of hundred thousand dollars in a dedicated purpose built theatre / music room. I also have lots of high end speakers and amps I can rotate in the system. The other systems included Wilson audio and audio research reference pre, Krell pre and power with shahinian speakers and full range driver systems lii audio f15 with 18 inch h frame open baffle sub. There was just no contest. Msb discrete with two supplies had much bigger soundstage, way less grain, more dynamics, incredible purity superb base and was incredibly emotionally involving. It just was not close. Msb analog dac is great but old and not comparable to the new Msb models which are two generations newer. Premier with power base is just massively better again especially with pro isl. streamer and end point were antipodes (with one mate having Roon nucleus).

    Probably not the best track to listen a lot of differences, try something with more drums and bass like Vtt2 "Drums Stop, No Good", for my the MSB analog is too slow in the transients.

    • @connorduke4619
      @connorduke4619 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The differences are quite clear in the rhythm guitar and bass guitar, and I fully agree with your comment the May displays superior transients.

    • @chasehatton3691
      @chasehatton3691 ปีที่แล้ว

      Listen carefully and you might hear better detail retrieval with the MSB. The Holo May has just a bit faster transient movement. However, it comes at a price. Between detail skipping and incomplete transient progression , the Holo pales in comparison to the MSB.
