What really astounds me, is that on top of the lack of accountability and absolute refusal to accept any fault, Diane has now created a PAID support group for parents like her. She's not only publically invalidating her daughters experience, she's using it as a GRIFT to make $$$ 🤢🤮

as somebody dealing with similar with my grandparents, mostly my positive view on lgbt+ compared to my grandparents negative view.
it’s a big reason why she’ll probably never have a space in her daughters life again, including her daughters children aswell.
she can’t admit any wrongdoing like a typical narc, a lot like parents who say, “i guess i was such a bad parents even though i put a roof over your head, clothes on your back and food in your body.” which is basically what every parent should do normally and not expect to be treated like gods for it.
parents like that never change and honestly it’s shameful she’s using it as a grift.
but it proves that she’ll never change and see her daughter as a different person then her personal emotional footstool.

For crying out loud its NOT about what you did when she was a kid it's how you treat her NOW that's she's an adult. My parents both fucked up my childhood severely, and only got divorced when I was 19, but while my mom still pretty much talks like Diane, my dad did a lot of therapy and genuinely apologized to me when I was 21 or so, crying genuine tears that did not come from a place of self pity and made a genuine effort to fix our relationship. I went no contact with one of them, make a guess which one.

True. My estranged mom has all her friends calling me and asking me to "forgive". They don't understand that I'm _protecting_ myself from who she IS today, not for things from long ago. Forgiveness is not the issue.

Exactly this. My mom (very similar in some ways to Diane) has only gotten worse with age and is flat out rude, nasty and verbally abusive to me. She can take zero criticism, screams to shut out any opinion opposing her own. No matter what or how I try to express my perspective, it's wrong to her, completely unworthy of being listened to. I finally gave up on the relationship this year (I'm in my 40's) and it's extremely difficult, but my only regret thus far is that I didn't reach this conclusion sooner. I would've saved myself a lot of unnecessary trauma and grief at the hands of my birth giver.

My mom is an alcoholic and bipolar like me but doesn't 'believe in therapists' and made my partner cry. I can't keep her in my life is she is harming not only me but those around me and tries to lie that she didn't. It is now I am worried about. I have completed therapy for my childhood trauma. The issue I have now isn't related to the past. It is about how she is now.

Diane loves her victimhood. She wears it like it's Prada. She nurtures it, feeds it, and takes it with her everywhere.
Diane has climbed up onto her cross and relished every moment of bashing in the nails. She will fight to stay up there.
"My daughter wrote an angry letter." Tell me you minimize and dismiss your child without admitting to yourself you've done this. "Politics" means Diane is blameless, pure, a Martyr. Mmmmm . . .Martyrdom. Yum.
Awful. Awful human being. Going No Contact is the last resort for self preservation. It's painful to be alone and cut off from family, but once that relationship becomes toxic, a person has to make a decision about how to survive.

I also feel like she may possibly have read out more of that "angry letter" than she would admit, during her first video. That childish voice that reads over itself when she's first talking about the letter, there's a scentence that I can make out amongst her chatter:
In the reading voice, I hear 'All my life I've been talked over, guilt tripped, gaslit. I need to be heard, it has hurt my mental health.'
Even just that small bit that I could hear from her dramatic child-voiced reading has a lot more meaning that just politics, just like you said.

The crazy part is that even if it was primarily about politics, you have to question why the relationship hasn't been repaired over time. At some point, they'd agree to disagree for the sake of the relationship, right? But they haven't. There would be no reason for her not to reconcile unless she felt there was no reason to reconcile. That would be a great place for Diane to start some healthy introspection, but she doesn't get it and doesn't really want to get it either.

I care about my parents but they are a massive stressor in my life and are the reason why I have not reached the goals I planned to now that I am 20. I know they’ll be blindsided and feel betrayed because that’s now these relationships work. You have to behave the certain way or you will be miserable.

Maximo, I think the main things you've identified are Diane's totally inability to show vulnerability, attempt introspection or appear sincere in concern for her daughter's well being. Her focus seems to be on the shock she experienced that her daughter would ever cut her husband and herself out of her life and how blameless they are for these turn of events. Everything she has done from there has been an extreme way of justifying her stance as blameless and her daughter as unjustified in cutting them off. It's pathetic. If there was any hope of her daughter resuming contact, Diane has blown that out of the universe whilst also showing the world why her daughter decided to go no contact as the person Diane presents herself is truly ensufferable.

Also, her daughter is AUTISTIC, not introverted.

Still, any engagement would probably be good in her mother's eyes, like how she scoured her daughter's content and then got mad they weren't mentioned. Negative attention would still be attention after all. Her daughter has more self control and ability to detach than I have. I have my dad blocked on everything because he keeps sending me the same religious and politics laden crap, but it is like he is a record stuck on one groove. How often does he think I need to hear his opinions? When I have asked him to stop, he reacts by calling me a loud-mouth bitch. EVERY comment i saw on that video was positive, and agreeing that he was right to cut her from his will bc she's a spoiled brat... i was shocked to see so much positive feedback, hardly any dislikes on the video either. but ugh the way he made it clear from the start of the video that him and his daughter had issues because he's a massive trumper, made it that much more unwatchable for me personally. what little i watched made me majorly uncomfortable, as it is clear to me from the way he talks about his family as well as the run-time that he is exploiting his estranged kid (with a tiktok following) for his own benefit. an analysis of it would be so fascinating!

I would normally agree with you because so many disorder terms are being used as cutesy adjectives, but narcissism is a bit different. Calling someone narcissistic is referring to a pattern of self centeredness, but it's not the same thing as saying someone has narcissistic personality disorder. The term narcissistic personality disorder actually comes from narcissistic as an adjective to describe more common and fairly normal behaviors. So yeah you can call someone a narcissist without it being "diagnosing" them.
And psychopath isn't a diagnosis. It's not a real medical term.
