I'm 81 and have been digging clams since I was probably 7 years old. We lived near the beach and now I live at the beach. We didn't have tubes in those days only shovels. What did you do with the digger? The foot that they use to dig? That is the best part of the clam. You slit it open and it looks like a butterfly. You scrape out the nasty brown stuff. That's what you fry and they are so tender. The other part is tough so you grind that up and make chowder. Glad you knew about the clams purging in saltwater but if you don't submerge them completely and they're still alive, you dip them for about 2 seconds in boiling water then plunge in cold water, they literally fall out of the shell. My parents never did this, I think they thought it would make the clams tough. I don't know if clams feel pain but I clean them so fast, literally seconds, to lessen their suffering in case they do.

So the ciphen or neck is the part you use for chowder as it’s tough and chewy. So when it’s ground up it’s good for soups. The digger part, which is more tender, is what I like to fry. Cut it into strips. Wash in butter milk and eggs and either bread in tempura or flour and corn starch. Thank me later lol
Very interesting tool for harvesting razor clams. Here in Ireland we would find the little dimples and pour some salt into the hole and after about 10 to 20 seconds the clam just comes straight out the hole. Work smart not hard, 😉. 👍🇮🇪.

Just something you have to set up than latter put away. So I don't waist my time with the hot water. However opening them up is different from what you did. And ALWAYS save the tip from the neck, also called a siphon. Just about the best fish bait there is. Infact use one of the necks and cut into small pieces about the size of the tip for bait. My normal routine at the beach is get down to the beach in time to dig clams. Normally only takes about 15 minutes to limit. Get off the beach, clean the clams and get to bed. Just came across ur channel bout a week ago (slabcity vid)good stuff man i subbed stay humble and keep on trucking.
Watching this video makes me so crazy because I absolutely love razor clams and I'm not able to do the digging anymore and I miss it so much. Please tell me that you'll come back to Washington and do that again. I hope you had a lot of fun looks like you did.
That drunk guy . Makes me mad. I bet he knew the rules . And he didn’t seem to care that he was just killing them by throwing them back .
Almost looks like he pissed himself also😂
@@ibmiike969 I’m sure he probably did just to stay warm hahahahah
Shouldn't let things like that upset you. In the grand scheme of things he isn't really hurting anyone. Who knows maybe he has problems, I am not going to judge him. He's also older so I am sure rules have changed and as you know older people really don't like change. Do you think he should be locked up or punished for his offences? In the end, just do you, don't give other people the power to ruin your mood! :D
Lol so many excuses for the drunk dude. I bet you love to make excuses all the time for yourself when you do something you know you’re not supposed to
Olive I agree with you and him. He shouldn’t break the law and especially kill things he’s not going to harvest. I was raised to eat anything you kill! Yes I am a hunter. Hope that doesn’t upset ya! But try and take his advise atleast and not get so butt hurt. Getting upset 😭 her others actions that don’t affect your life is a very silly thing to do. I put that way nicer than I thought I would be able to. Have a good day Olive lol
Whoa, This is my neck of the woods annd my van build will be livable by this Monday! Glad to see you got to enjoy the coast and all of its delicious shellfish treasures. You should go to Quilcene Bay for oysters.
Mav goes from first time clammer to clam guide in 1 hour😊
I think clamming is the only type of "fishing" that anyone can master in the span of ten minutes haha.
I always learn something from you and that helps make your vlogs so interesting. Thanks.
Mav keep em coming great content I show your feed to everyone I come across.
Joes crab shack is everywhere.. Our group had prom dinner there
Try hammer lands sheet metal in Hopkins mn😎 they used to make body panels for my uncle's hot rods
i remember claming as a kid lol, would get some as big as wallets lol... massive buggers ; our limit was 60-65 per person.... even kids ... i was slaving lol
In the summer you should head down to the st Lawrence river NY huge small mouths
A Rapala pro series Cutting board in the 19x48 size fastened to your tailgate might be the ticket for you
I don’t believe I’ve ever been to a Joe’s crab shack, but definitely heard of it in Ocean City Maryland
It easier to use scissors when you clean them but great vid 👍🏻
I like to use a knife to get the meat off the shells. Then scissors to actually clean the clam meat. Might make it easier next time.
Another great video, Mav! Clams looked mighty tasty!
U can also boil them until fried them with oil salt and pepper garlic it die for when you eat u over cook them
you should make a little cheap flip cover that flips over the things to prevent smash
Ive never had clam before..... 15 mins later... Oh yeah i use to LOVE clam strips as a kid! Lol

Funny story of my great grandfather when we use to go fishing in the great salt lake he would chum the water with corn and at that time it was very illegal I don’t know if it still is but we would catch like 20 fish and he always use to say “if anyone ask’s we caught 4”
