OMG…my entire childhood..every summer staying at Rods beach resort and digging clams inOceanShores. The best clams ever! Thank you for this video. It made me so happy. We were surf diggers😍
Great video! Love razor clams!!! My husband and I can’t wait for next season, but much coordination is involved because we fly from Hawai’i. So worth it!!!
I used to live in ocean shores many moons ago and loved clamming... enjoyed ur video very much. I cannot remember the limit but i think it was 15. I could never master the shovel, always used a clam gun...... we did the frying but fritters is what we made the most, so so good. I dont ever recall making chowder but im sure it would be fab. I really miss those days. We would walk down the jetty and fish in the summer, omg...so much fun and great memories... we would get tube worms as bait for fishing.
the limit is usually 15 but because digging was called off often the last couple of years, this year they raised it to 20. next year it probably will be back to 15.
Great efficient technique, cool to see. How old fashioned do you have to be not to use a gun? We still have our aluminum clam guns from the 70s. lol...
That was an interesting video and for me very surprising. The reason why was those razor clams looked so much different than the ones I collected as a teenager on Cape Cod. The shells on those clams were very thin and looked exactly like a straight razor. You would typically find the empty shells on the beaches there. So my friend, who had a small boat, and I left Wellfleet harbor one day and headed to this sand bar with the idea we would dig for steamers. Well we didn't find any but we did find a bunch of these razor clams which we just broke open, washed off, and ate raw on the spot.
This is great! I just saw this. I went to the beaches somewhat north of you back in May because I was pinched for time (I live in the Tacoma area). I got my limits but it wasn't as fast as you did because I had to share that beach with 5000 of my best friends. I started out years ago using clam guns but switched to shovels now and that's my preferred way to dig for these. I like to save the siphon tips and guts for crab bait. Nice video!
Wow your slick at this! I dug pisser cClams back home in MA where I grew up. We wore our oants rolled up ( Clam diggas) and used a bent Rake like your Shovel. The Red Tide makes it very difficult to harvest regularly😢. Do you ever have that problem? Nice job ,yummy ending in your tummy😂 JO JO IN VT 💞
I'm from Massachusetts and I even know those are not razor clams razor clams come out the sand easy with salt lol those are gaper clams so must not be very knowledgeable about clams
Our rules say you have to replace your divots. I see your diggers don't seem to care about the other critters living in the sand/mud/rocks. Your shovel lifting doesn't disrupt much. I dig for Horse Clams and shovel is the only way, of course HCs don't go anywhere they just draw down their syphon. I like to clean at the water's edge and feed the guls. Thank you for sharing your digging skills.
always considered them the pros/ I was able to get my limit with my gun and help others with their limit .. of the many things I miss about living on west coast digging razor clams is right up there.
Thank you for taking us through the whole process! You make the catching look so easy! I have the same coleman stove....time to dig it out of storage and go catch some razor clams! :)
Hi I like your vlog .I'm a single male from California .and I don't get to do clam digging here .so watching your channel is great .were state are you from that has theas clams.
I just happened upon your video, I am so jealous you live near the ocean and can do things like digging for clams. Love it, love it, love it!!! Yum, I was wondering where you are located...Washington maybe or Oregon? Thanks for sharing with us, many blessings to you.
Ill probably try your method of cleaning them. Since Im two hours from the coast I usually toss the clams in my cooler and do all the cleaning at home and never really thought of cleaning them on the actual beach. I can use my cooler to just pack ingredients to fry em up fresh instead. Do you just store them like you did here in a tupperware and toss them into the freezer just like that or do you add water or something before?
This was my first time cleaning them on the beach and it sure was nice to not have to clean them at home after a long drive when I’m tired. One of the advantages of killing them with scissors instead of hot water is it’s actually quicker because you don’t have to spend all that time boiling water.
The diggers are much more tender than the rest of the clam. The rest of the clam is pretty tough, especially the neck. I wouldn’t call it flaky though. Definitely not flaky. No part of a razor clam is flaky.
Those are NOT razor clams those are gaper clams other wise i love the video but i would be more interested if u edit the caption of razor clam to Gaper clams which is what those clams are
That’s hilarious ha ha these are most definitely razor clams. I’ve been digging them since I was eight years old. This is in Washington state by the way.
@MossWalks yes I did notice a difference but where I'm from and in Cornwall UK they are identified as gaper clams it's a pacific razor clam ( Oregon species) I did do some more research but yes
@MossWalks as I said before I wasn't here being rude just very interesting, as I stated i loved the video just where I'm from and in Cornwall UK they are known as gaper clams but yes I did more research and found the pacific razor clam ( Oregon species)
@@tracykrol83 hi Yes I’ve seen the videos of clam digging in the UK. You use salt there to make them come out of the hole it’s interesting. My late husband was a British. I would love to visit the UK again.
@MossWalks how wonderful u will love it in the UK especially with your digging too get those clams we gotta dig about 12 inches to get our gaper clams but our razor clams u look for like a key hole shape in the sand and yes put salt and they purge themselves out of the sand so u can grab them lol
"OK so we're here at the Ocean." Well that's great; really tells me where you are. I watched a few minutes, couldn't figure out where you are, figured if she's not gonna tell me where she is, why watch?

Is rods, the one that is now Pacific Beach State Park? That’s where we always stayed when I was a kid. I think I remember it being called rods.
@@WalkswithMoss I don’t think so. I looked up Pacific Beach State park & it is pretty far from Copalis Beach where Rods was
Love your shovel skills and those diggers look delicious. Thank you for sharing.
They are!
Great video! Thank you! I love the kite’s at the end. My boss collects kite’s and does to different meet-ups with his wife and kids.
That is awesome!
Thanks loved your video
😋
So nice of you
I miss these days.! I now live in the Mojave desert so these videos of yours really make me homesick.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for sharing your day clam digging! Awesome
Glad you enjoyed it
Really nice!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow! Very nice video.... I just love the Beach doing metal Detecting.....
Thanks 👍
Informative and very interesting
Glad you think so!
Awesome video. How to catch, clean, and cook. A beach cooked clam chowder would be interesting.
That would be cool!
Remind me of home growing up on the Oregon coast makes me miss all it has to offer
The Oregon Coast is amazing.. loved visiting my mother there when I was a kid.
Great video thanks.... No Flies on U....
Thank you
I love you puppy. That wind though, The struggle is real for sure. But as they say, the harder it is to get your food, the better it is.
Thanks.

I really enjoyed the time I lived in Aberdeen so close to the ocean I can go clam digging whenever I wanted to.
the limit is usually 15 but because digging was called off often the last couple of years, this year they raised it to 20. next year it probably will be back to 15.
@marzsit9833 it’s back down to 15 this year. I went up to 20 for a little while there because there wasn’t much digging during Covid.
Very nice
Thanks
Nice work! Good cooking!
Thank you.
That looks and tasty, wish i was there...
Thanks for watching
Great efficient technique, cool to see. How old fashioned do you have to be not to use a gun? We still have our aluminum clam guns from the 70s. lol...
I remember seeing them in the 70's too.
Wow!! Your digging is impressive!!
Thanks 👍
Thankyou for sharing your catch and cook I might try your way of cleaning....it was a fabulously easy dig that morning...
You’re welcome. Yes, it was wonderful easy digging that morning.

Thank you for the comment, sounds delicious.
Yeah, these clams look like vary large "steamers", as we call them on the east coast. The razors here are more straight. Either way, delicious!

Wow- digging looks fun and eating at the end more rewarding. Thanks for giving me some ideas. First time clammer here.
Good luck!
Thank you Mossy Mom! Now I'm HUNGRY... and no clams to eat in my kitchen! 😆
Oh no! Lol
Thank you so much for showing us the way to catch these clams. What are the rules in Washington state. Is a fishing license required? Thanks again.
Yes you need a shellfish license. The normal limit is 15 but sometimes they raise it to 20.
Really like your technique.
Thank you

Yes those are absolutely without a doubt in my mind gaper clams
@@tracykrol83They are. They can get to seven inches long and 3 inches wide. The adolescent ones tend to be long and thin.
Great video, wish I was there to experience it all
Maybe one day!
1 minute in and I'm already hooked ❤
Cool.. :)
I'm itching to try a razer clam!!!
They are yummy.

On the ocean beach for razor clams the rules are different.
once the tide comes up all those mounds dissappear...
I’m going to use shovel from now on! Nice video 👍
The learning curve is steep, but it is the most fun way to do it.

I just stored them in the lock and lock container in my cooler with ice. I did not add water I never do.
A good fried digger tastes like fried chicken. The 1st time I ever had Razor Clam was the digger fried. I swear I thought it was fried Chicken.
Oh, I think you do razor clams a disservice they taste way better than fried chicken ha ha
If you put them back do they survive.
No and you’re not actually allowed to put them back. You have to keep the first 15 or 20 that your dig depending on what the limit is that day.
What do they taste like? Are the diggers flakey and tender kind of like the texture of fried oysters?
The diggers are much more tender than the rest of the clam. The rest of the clam is pretty tough, especially the neck. I wouldn’t call it flaky though. Definitely not flaky. No part of a razor clam is flaky.
Which beach entrance?
It was at Copalis.
Why do you have to leave bella in the car? Just curious.
Just so she would not annoy other clamdiggers
Where is this at ?
Washington State
That was my Van and my friend
Cool! It was nice to meet you.
I haven't been clamming in ten years; I need to change that.
You’re missing out it’s lots of fun.
What is a show? I don't see anything.
It can be pretty subtle it’s a little dimples does a clam males in the sand as it goes down

These sea shores should be banned against clams hunting.
They are well managed unlike some of the beaches down south, in other states we won’t mention
Pl don't support like these videos.
why?
OK
alaska razer clam seasosn have been demolished. after 90 a day per person just a few years back, they destroyed the clams population its now 9 a day per person.
That's a shame. I dug in Alaska once, big clams!
I heard razor clam digging in Alaska was amazing. Sorry to hear about the over clamming.
