It is strange to hear from experts that the new Golf cannot be distinguished from the MK6. I'm not a car journalist and I can differentiate every generation of Golf in a glance.
I think it's brilliant, refined and classic interior means you aren't being shouted at by all of the dials and lights in the dash and won't be tired of it as quickly. the lines on the side and the rear are more aggressive than the last gen and I think it's going to be timeless like the mk 2 and 4. the 3 and 5 are cool in their own right, but are kinda the odd man out for the styling and the 6always felt like the natural progression from the 4.

@@AndorRadnai 🤣 I'm a vw fan for sure. Funny enough, i think my favorite passat is the b6, which is the mkv era of the jetta/golf. Sportier and sleeker, though, the understeer was unforgiving at times (the struts are way behind the engine). 🤣

Most Ford and VW cars look good after 10 years.... That difference in cost...... Not much is it?

Focus is nice, it if you put it along side a golf, well it's the golf that always would win. Looks and drive better than any other hatchback. MK 5 Golf is my favourite due to it reputation of build quality. Take s focus 1.6 TDCI zetec against the Golf and there only one clear winner.
MK5 is the worst built Golf ever, highly rust prone on the front wheel arches and the rear sills often go too. The headlights cloud up like mad. The DSG and 1.4 turbo petrol from that era were also hopeless in terms of being reliable.
Loved my 7 gtd black with standard slight tints to the rear windows. It just sat so well oknthe stunning standard 18s, sporty and understated. The best looking golf so far. Fancy the 8 as its 200bhp now for the gtd but will diesel be dodgy to own in the next few years?
I got to drive both the 1.6 and the 2.0 tdi and I have to say, the 2.0 feels, sounds, accelerates so much better! I might be because it had a higher trim level as well, but even if you just compare the engines and gearboxes, youre better off by miles with the 2.0!

Totally agree with the boring looks of the 7th gen Golf. The interior looks near identical to any Skoda (judging by the amount of grey colours in this 1.6L tdi model). 5th gen Golf is way better and has that amazing flappy paddle dual-clutch 6 speed gearbox which I bet the 7th gen Golf GTi will not have as an option, they will only have stickshift or torque converter auto gearbox). Only the 7th gen Golf R will have dual-clutch gearbox but this time with 7 rather than 6 gears. Still even the Golf R looks boring.
