- The VW Golf is refined, comfortable and enjoyable to drive. Its cabin is well built and practical, and resale values are strong. However, the entry-level engine doesn’t have a lot of power and the 1.4 petrol with cylinder shut-off is expensive. Lesser versions of the Golf have an unsophisticated rear suspension set-up.
Overall, we'd say this latest generation of Volkswagen Golf is the best yet. Classy, refined and great to drive, it’s one of the best small family cars. Watch our video review to find out more.

I have those wheels on my golf. No picture can convey how brilliant they look up close. I think they look better than the standard GTI wheels and both of the R choices.
I love the mk4 and mk5 so much that I kinda brushed the mk6 and 7 to the side. But this review made me realise how cool this car actually is :)
MK7 is the best golf ever. Absolute wonderful car in every aspect. Love it.

+Hussain Sajid I've got the 1.4 tsi match edition in metallic tungsten silver, not quite as good as the gt model but still classy and plenty of kit.
The auto gear box problem prevents me from buying one - as do the problems of illegal emissions, falling resale values because (mainly) of the unsolved emission questions, the poor economic state of the company and its future, and, perhaps more than anything else, the fall in quality and reliability of new vehicles.
VW is looking at class action lawsuits in the USA, are VW's resale in the UK unaffected by the emissions scandal?

Resale values are down in the UK and some owners (I would guess most) are worried.
John Byrne Americans are also facing a much more extensive fix with possible negative effects on performance and mileage. I've seen an increase in VWs being traded in. Not to mention our US versions are cheaper and less sophisticated to start with.
Its called U.S Hipocrisy.
Americans with 7.0L engines are worried about the Emissions of 3 cylinders & 4 Cylinders in Europe

Should we buy a Emissions compliant 4x4 Pick Trucks diesel's with 6.3L engines in order to comply with
U.S corrupt emissions standards? or , Perhaps Europeans we should buy a Hellcat with 707HP and enjoy the 12 Minutes the 80 Liters tank lasts ?

+Guy 01 OK enjoy it :) I would never consider Golf before Megane, 308, C4 or Astra. GOlf is dull car, same as Mazda 3, Toyota Auris and other so called 'reliable' cars.
