True. When I pressure my friends to watch Expanse (pressure because initial few episodes are slow), I tell them Avasarala is one of my favourite characters. I don't tell them my most favourite character, because that's an experience one has to experience. Camina Drummers slowly becoming the most incredible charector in the show. I don't wanna ruin that for anyone

The Expanse is a lesson on strong female characters. Every single woman in this show is a unique, multifacetted individual with strengths, weaknesses and a development arc. Each brought to life by a capable actress. You want strong women in movies and TV, look no further.
I just thought the same after Season 4. I didn't notice it in the past seasons, but I'm seriously impressed, how well and authentic the female roles are written. No PC bullshit, no "female" characters who are males at their core. Drummer, Naomi, Draper and Chrisjen are carrying the show. The dialogue between Naomi and the colonialist mom on board of the Rosi was one of the best scenes of season 4.
This show should be an example for others.
@@dasturschloss8679 Sorry, you're fan-boying (or girling). Season 4 is especially full of PC crap. Exhibit 1: that teenage girl who runs away from home, ends up on a space ship, and suddenly seems to become the captain of the ship overnight. Huh????
But that said, here's a summarized run-down of the four women you mentioned: Drummer's decision got Ashford killed; Naomi's pride almost got herself killed (she refused to admit she can't handle gravity); Bobbie fell in with outlaws to get herself out of jail; and Avasarala, in between foul-mouthed temper tantrums, sent a bloody-thirsty maniac on a baby-sitting expedition. So much for carrying the show. Truth is, Season 4 of TE is what Season 5 was to GoT...the beginning of a clear slide into suckage. I'm really wondering if D&D ended up on the script team for The Expanse, because every single character this season seems like they've swallowed stupid pills. Murtry is allowed to continue even though his homicidal propensity is obvious and he provides ample opportunity and reason to stop his rampaging. I thought that maybe going through the Ring caused brain damage, but those who've never gone through the Ring are acting dumb as mud, too. Plain and simple, this season sucks for all kinds of reasons.

Lol...after all the recepy of them is simple....just make a damn show without that shitty messages. If the storylines apply to something valuable like empowerment then noone cares....Luckily they dont brag about it....because strong women were everywhere since I am a kid (80s and 90s).
Why this is still a thing to even brag or talk about is beyond my mind and probably beyond the minds, who are against those forced messages.
Simply do a good movie...tell stories of different people and everyone is entertained....nothing to shove up our asses. If the source material says that it is a women or a black dude...do it...it is so simple...its beyond simple.
That is what they do and that is why probably every old StarWars fan from your "toxic fanboys" invested in it and even petitioned for it to continue....Not you as a casual, who is already brainwashed...no, it is scifi fans that had to abandon StarWars, StarTrek, get ill when they hear DC or Marvel --> those are who cared enough to make it happen in the first place. Dont start shoving up that political or SJW bullshit, please! Dont make that series turn into another nightmare for people who genuinly dont give a shit, because it is nearly all solved issues since I grew up (never had problems with female workers, my coworkers always have and always will earn the same as I, except I or them take another task to their responibilities).

Sorry, but it isnt personal, but holy moly...we are not having fun anymore at that stage....we cannot simply sit down and enjoy a tv series without thinking about its political correctness and fiddle with it until we are all upset. Just take popcorn and watch the damn thing...and if you like it, writ that you liked it...no need for deconstructing a deeper meaning behind the writer eventually being a mysoginist or whatever. Watch it and talk about the character neutrally or this topic will never end! :)

Agreed. Along with Bobbie Draper. And proof positive that no one has problems with strong female characters. You provide a cast with a good script and excellent character development and the rest will fall into place.
As a male... I f’ked with Camina because she was Boss.. uncompromising when unnecessary... same with Bobby and Naomi, same with Chrisjen, Anna and the reporter... The Whole series has strong women in it, come to think about it.
In an age when Hollywood has oft and repeatedly messed-up strong female characters Drummer is a breath of fresh air. No Mary Sue, she is tough when she has to be, conciliatory when that is the right approach and fucking smart all the time. For me, without question, she is the best female characterisation since Ripley and Sarah Connor. Also, a shout out to Cara Gee. She brings the character to life in truly credible way. Great job.
She's a strong female character because she has to shine on a brute "world", the belt, where the strenght is the only thing they can use to "shine" and she does not only shine "Because yes", she shine because we see how she suffer during this seassons and she just keep going, not because his grandpa was the emperor, because of pure determination. Splendid job from Cara Gee and let's see what the writter of the books and the series has to offer to her.
It's something similar to Darper o Avasarala, they're not weak characters that suddenly are strong, we see why and how they became stronger and stronger or at least the plot let us know that they should've did something important to became who they're, not some cheap profeminist advertisement.

_The Expanse_ does it insanely well. It doesn't feel forced. Drummer, Draper, Nagata and Avasarala are just genuinely strong roles. And shout-out to casting for finding actresses that do the characters justice.
She suffers, she struggles, she grows as a person. She is strong as fuck. I don't give a fuck that she's a woman, she's just a straight up a badass well-rounded character, one of my favorites of any gender. While on other shows they go on and on talking about how the character is a woman and it's so hard being a woman oh my gosh blah blah blah, Drummer just fights and wins and doesn't give a fuck. I love it.

The best thing: Cara Gee is in real-life the total opposite of Camina Drummer.
She´s super sweet and very quirky and loves to interact with fans.
Wes Chatham,who plays Amos is also a super chilled and extremely friendly guy.
I deeply hope that Wes Chatham is not like Amos in RL. Haha would be a problem for sure ^^

The thing I love about her character is how well she plays it. Whenever she's on scene you can hear the other Belter characters really pushing that Belter accent. She drives them to enhance their performances because she's just that good, she steals every scene she's in.

That's what is making Drummer so dangerous. She is a hothead for sure and has shown that in the books as well as in the series, but when it comes to the point, she can act so damn calculating and cool.

Cara Gee is an amazing actress and the, "For Beltalowda" speech gave me goosebumps. She even said in an interview that she realised just how powerful it was.
The mimics, the movement, the accent, the strong will. Cara Gee makes this character shine so much, she has an unbelievable talent to exude the aura of strength.
Cara Gee is THE acting revelation of the expanse!
A strong case could be made for Wes Chatham. Drummer and Amos are two of the most intense bad ass characters on TV.

@@potkettle thats what they call GREAT WRITING. Make you dislike someone only to come to love them. Avasarala was cruel and ruthless at first, more antagonistic, but she changed, and some of her scenes are just pure GOLD. Like when she tells Errinwright that she'll rain hellfire on him and Mau. Great writing for every character.
Cara Gee brings the multi faceted Camina to life brilliantly. Easily the Expanse’s best female character for my money. ALL the acting talent in this show is sublime imo. Powerful performances top to bottom.

as a life long starwars fan and a marvel fan i can say yes star wars is shit, out of 9 movies it has 1 solid film and most people only like it for the battles, marvel on the other hand is super heroes cant really compare the 2 as thats pure fantasy vs the expanse which is probably the most realistic look of a space faring humanity future we have seen
I like the original Star Wars movies when i was little, Marvel was ok in the beginning, but now everything has been ruined by sjw's and feminists.

I just wrapped Season 3, and wow. What a great, well-written character, and what an outstanding performance by Cara Gee. I loved seeing David Straitharn in action, as well. Drummer and Ashford are badasses, both with a code and a devotion to duty that is matched only by their capacity for ruthlessness when they believe the situation demands it. Drama sometimes needs a villain, but what was a called for here was to have two heroes doing battle with one another in a desperate situation, and these two actors delivered.

Reconciliatory, and also a gesture of “hey, we survived.” Ashford lost his way a bit there at the end, but without his gesture of saving the wounded from across the flotilla, nobody would have been paying attention to broadcasts from the Behemoth. The Belters brought two outstanding commanding officers into that trap, and they were both instrumental in getting the survivors back out of it alive.

Cara Gee made Camina Drummer live for me, she made a character so powerful that she became the go-to voice of the Belters when I read the Expanse books. Or try to do a Belter voice at all. I love the character she plays, and I love the way she plays that character.

When a power failure could mean death, hate has to come later.
This is how you write a strong female character, without it seeming like you're trying to throw it in peoples faces.
Or without it feeling like it's not truly earned. You can understand why Drummer would be the way they are given how harsh the Belter life can be. The world they come from is a key part of character development. Then you have characters that are just special because they are supposed to be special and that's as far as the writers want to go with that.

@John Miller - this is the comment I resonate with. Drummer's character does not, in any way, appear to be deliberately manufactured to be a strong female character for the sake of it. She has been written, and played, wonderfully, as has Amos, who I disliked at first, but has evolved to be an honest, almost knight-errant character with true morals.

The chemistry (not the love/romance) between Camina Drummer and Commander Klaes Ashford is the best I have ever seen on screen! This is my personal opinion.
In a show absolutely packed with amazing performances, somehow Cara Gee managed to stand out as particularly brilliant. The writing is obviously great, but without the right actor behind it, the character of Drummer could still have fallen flat. But damn, she's one of the greatest sci fi characters of all time.
Perhaps the biggest badass in a series full of badasses. Seriously, don't mess with the women of The Expanse.
Cara Gee owns almost every scene she's in. Quite an achievement when you're playing opposite David Strathairn and Jared Harris.

Considering how much damage her fragile (and gorgeous) Belter body has taken, it's a testament to her will that she's still alive.
She breaks her spine and while bedridden builds a set of robotic legs to get around it, that’s what I call a strong will.

Bad ass growing growing growing, I do it all for love... and GONE! Went from Badass to Moron in 5 seconds flat!

usually I like the books better, but the whole Drummer and Ashford story is so much better in the series. especially how cool Ashford is in this.
I will say I wanted to see Michio Pa as a separate character. Because Drummer is not a “pirate queen”. So seeing her absorb Pa’s storyline, and Bull’s too, was an odd choice, but flipping it with Ashford was an interesting dynamic that probably wouldn’t have worked for Pa. I do wish we’d been able to see Bull. And SAM! #FREESAM.
They combine characters in part to retain actors who would otherwise have too much down time and might leave for other projects.

Cara Gee did a character that will be remembered for generations.
I can safely say that males and females balanced the series because there where strong characters on BOTH camps. This series was not about gender prowess but magically spoke about how strong both genders could be on tough situations.
This series was about drama and I can't tell how great it was. The Expanse worth every coin. It was THE BEST series I saw.

Best character in the show Cara Gee as Camina Drummer. When she is onscreen I can't take my eyes off her, and when she is talking her voice just gets through ... she is perfect for this great role!

In my opinion, nothing sums up Drummer's character better than the line "Damn well better, I'm your captain." She values friendship, but at the same time, knows that it can't come before efficiency, especially in the harsh reality that is life in the Belt.

Drummer is one of my favorite characters from this show, along with Amos and Ashford. Sometimes the "simpler" characters are harder to portray, and you really have to pay attention to the subtle expressions. I wish this series keeps going because as far as I can see, it gets better each season.

Exactly. Drummer is human. She doesn't have magic powers or SJW armour. You see times when she is scared, when she makes mistakes, when she is just about beaten but what makes her different is how she reacts to those times. Unlike the vast majority of people, she drags herself up, stands tall and deals with it.
Yes Ripley tough and smart !!! Ripley for me is the biggest badass in movie scfi history!!! When she suggests they nuke the planet from space !!! So logical !!! Or when she fought the Xenomorph with that Loader !!!! Drummer is an example of genius book adaption!!! I love Drummer!!! Reminds me of an oil rigger lady I know !!!
Such an amazingly written Character for the series. and executed brilliantly by Cara Gee. And as icing on the cake she is also an Ojibwe. wich is a native american tribe. Dident figure that out until now.
