She's the type of take charge woman you truly pray your children get as a teacher at least once in school to scare the living heck out of them so they actually work with the fear that if they don't they'll just get this bitch again next year. There biggest word that comes to mind to me for her is ICONIC. Honestly the performances in this show are incredible. So many of the cast are so far beyond stellar you can't see stars anymore.
"She is a woman of focus...commitment...and sheer, fucking will. Something you know very little about. I can assure you, that the stories about this woman...if nothing else, have been Watered. Down."
I love how when she first says she's going to rain hellfire down, he looks sort of surprised in an amused "oh, this is new, you're really going for bluster?" sort of way, turning into genuine fear as he realises it's NOT bluster. Unlike him and so many other rich and powerful people, she turned down an opportunity to flee Earth and get somewhere (temporarily) safe, she decided to live or die with her citizens, she said her goodbyes to her beloved husband, and she is fucking PISSED enough that she is absolutely willing to destroy her own career to punish Mao.
I'm listening to the books atm, and though there is a lot of divergence in how the plot plays out, I wouldn't be too surprised if part of the intent of this scene is she's not actually just talking about Mao, she's talking to Errinwright and telling him what she's going to be doing to him if he gets in her way and turns out to be involved... She's pretty aggressive, the Old Lady.
Another element that I think retroactively elevates both this scene and the scene where he turns on her is when Errinwright's finally arrested and he unloads about how much he hates Secretary-General Sorrento-Gillis and why. There he lays out that he absolutely despises Sorrento-Gillis for being a weak willed politician who cares more about his public image and covering his ass then actually doing good by the people of Earth. Because say what you will about Errinwright, he acted on genuine conviction. And knowing that Errinwright holds such high contempt for spineless politicians and applying it to this scene, I think he's genuinely taken aback Avasarala's willingness to put her reputation and political career on the line to bring in a man who she considers to be a legitimate threat to the safety of the system. But I think his respect for her only went up. A part of me even wonders if he was considering leaving everything in her hands. And later when he turns on Avasarala after she tries to broker a deal with Mao, to me it seemed like there was genuine bitterness and disappointment when he was talking to her. I think perhaps on some level he was disappointed she didn't continue her commitment to rain hellfire down upon Mao, even though it was logical and practical to bring him in the way she did. Certainly not trying say "Errinwright did nothing wrong," rather I think it's a facet to explain why he did what he did in the manner in which he did it.
I love watching this scene, where she is talking about Mao but is so clearly also threatening Errinwright, and then watching the scene where Errinwright confesses his part in the Protomolecule and is shocked to discover she already knew. Dude saw Avasarala call down a litany of curses to his face and watched her leave being like "huh that was weird, oh well."
Funny part is that he thought he was safe. He missed the part that the message was for him too. Of course, if not for Bobbie Draper he gets away with it all.

Errinwright never liked Avasarala. But I wonder if he respected her on some level. Unlike Sorrento-Gillis, who was a spineless coward only looking out for himself, Avasarala actually cared about Earth and was willing to do what it takes to save it, just like Errinwright did.
His facial expression in this scene when she shows her integrity in the face of corruption, its definitely admiration. From what we learn of Errenwright, what drove him to extremity was the ineptitude and corruption of his govt but Aviserella is the one symbol against that so even tho she happens to be against him, I dont think he really feared her success.
What I always loved in Avasarala was her sense of justice, yeah she's a Earth first and all that, but still she will be fair and just only you'll have to accept 55% of Earth shares.
Do not fuck with the Quean of Earth... also, kudos to Shawn Doyle. He went from looking smug and secure to looking absolutely terrified without saying a word.
In the pilot episode of the show, when Avasarala was first introduced, she LITERALLY had a Belter terrorist nailed to the wall for interrogation. So Errenwright knew full well she wasn't bluffing when she made that threat to the Mao family, and by extension, to himself.

I would vote for her in a heartbeat.
Avasarala is like the Juggernaut of politics. Once she starts charging, there's no stopping her, until she achieves her goal
This is what a heroic magnificent bastard looks like.
Sheeeeyiiit!
What I always loved in Avasarala was her sense of justice, yeah she's a Earth first and all that, but still she will be fair and just only you'll have to accept 55% of Earth shares.
Hail Mother Terra
Hail Avasarala
Long Live the Empire
God she is BEAUTIFUL.
Persian women in their 20s are transcendent GLORY!
i prefer this woman over hillary over trump any day
1:03 Love the zero emotion hide the pain face, just like real politicians when they might actually face consequences of their own actions
OUCH, I wouldn't Mess with Her
Do not fuck with the Quean of Earth... also, kudos to Shawn Doyle.
He went from looking smug and secure to looking absolutely terrified without saying a word.
And THAT is the woman Amos would like to have as his Favourite Stripper... gods I love this show!
Damn she is the BOSS
In the pilot episode of the show, when Avasarala was first introduced, she LITERALLY had a Belter terrorist nailed to the wall for interrogation. So Errenwright knew full well she wasn't bluffing when she made that threat to the Mao family, and by extension, to himself.
No the Belter was not nailed to the wall. He was suspended by his armpits from a couple of plastic coated wall hangers.
@@mhobson2009 Yes, yes... absolutely correct... with about the same effect on him and the same implications about her... nitpicky nitpicky...
@@BlackFedoraMan Don't use the word "literally", if you don't know what it means.
@@mhobson2009 I don't like your tone, sir. But you are correct, and I'll be more careful when I comment on something I'm passionate about.
See Star Wars, this is how you do a fearless female lead that is not afraid to go into the night for the things she believes in. Not the General "gender studies".
Александар Матић lmao, on point.
Well, Leia wasn't the gender studies kind of woman, was she? :D She was more like the "shoot first ask questions last" type of girl :P
@@R4Y2k the Pink hair idiot one
MCP/ChronicBuzz he meant Admiral Holden or Holding or Holdo or whatever the heck her name was.
Right on!
Damn...
Now this is how you write a strong female character. She also is Middle Eastern, so diversity and all of that.
How Facebook and Twitter should have been treated.
HAHAHA AMAZING!!
I'm both frightened and turned on and I like it!
they need that OH NO oh no oh no no no song for the moment he looks forward knowing he fucked up
Fuck no. Keep that TikTok trash away from anything of quality.
Also, I’m aware this comment is over 2 years old. I don’t care.
Shoreh and Cara Gee - two of the best actors in this series. Why? Because they're not acting, are they?
It's that look of contempt before she closes the door that just kills.
That monologue wow
Chrisjen goes assumes her final form as goes SUPER SAYIAN.....she is one of my fave female characters in Sci-Fi....(the others being Anna from V and Starbuck from Battlestar)
Never forget Commander Susan Ivanova who is a literal god and death incarnate and Delenn as well.
Wait, was that door open the whole time for the rest of the Building to hear?!
Someone make a talkshow with Olenna Tyrell and Chrisjen Avasarala
He should have listened to her in this scene, actually
