The Sydney Opera House sits on Bennelong Point, on the eastern headland of Sydney Cove, named after Eora leader Bennelong. Barangaroo was Bennelong's wife, not "an Aboriginal guy", and the western headland of Sydney Cove was named after her to mirror the naming of the other headland in honour of her husband.
Not quite. The western headland of Sydney Cove is Dawes Point/Tar-Ra. Then there is Walsh Bay, then what was named Barangaroo Point with the development of the park. The Geographical Names Board determined that there was already a historical name for that area - Millers Point. It's possible that the area was called Ilkan maladul by the local indigenous population, based on a reference by Lieutenant William Dawes on a sketch map from 1790 labeling that headland as such.
@@daveg2104 Yep. That's the longer (and more correct) explanation. I sacrificed some accuracy for brevity, but you're right completely.
The waitress was beautiful . A rose between two thorns
lol
So you left Sydney, ate fish and chips 6 times, Chinese from a mall food court, and didn’t walk from Bondi to Coogee or go to the Blue mountains! 🤪🙄
Don't forget whinged about the heat, complained about completely imaginary "woke forces", and incessantly close-talked poor andrew who was doing his damnedest to escape his minging boomer breath. What an absolute bellend.
Exactly. So much incredible food in Sydney and has fish and chips so many times🙃. It's a shame because he has a big platform and makes visually good quality content. I enjoyed some of the videos but also found some frustrating. He could've showed greater Sydney and show it for the true melting pot it is.
Don't think I've seen anyone that's not white and expat/former British in his vids either which is NOT reflective of Sydney at all 😂.
I and others suggested The Blue Mountains(and the coastal walk ) which is completely different to anywhere in the UK. But he went to all the tourist trap areas and often compared everything to England 🤷♀️.
I also suggested trying some of the incredible diverse food in Sydney especially popular staples like Banh Mi/Vietnamese, other SE Asian. middle eastern foods etc.
And yes went to a food court in China town 🙃. A few of us suggested much places in china town lol.
He didn't seem interested in suggestions from Aussie viewers and followed suggestions from his expat friends only. 🤷♀️
He made a video about The Rocks only showed Circular Quay, Bin Chickens, British Lolly Shop and Cadmans Cottage when there is so much interesting history around the area plus it's Australia in summer it gets warm 😂 no wonder us ex pat Poms get a bad name
The island you passed was Goat Island, it was formally used for gunpowder storage and is now heritage listed. Cockatoo Island is further west near Drummoyne.
Originally there were 14 islands within Sydney Harbour but some have been joined to the mainland or joined together.
Daniela will fill that eatery after this gets around
Sorry, Paul Hogan was NOT a painter on the harbour bridge. He was a rigger. :)
He said that he let the painter rumour go, (he didn't correct anybody on the actual facts for years.) I have forgotten the reason why.
Great video again Lee and Andrew. Thankyou so much 😊😊😊😊❤
Other great video and cannot put in to words how much I have loved the videos from Australia and been lovely meeting all the subscribers alone the way
A minor correction. Paul Hogan was a rigger not a painter on the Harbour Bridge.
Lee, a wide brimmed hat/sun hat would keep you cooler in the hot sun.
He's been told Dozens & Dozens of times!..he's an Ostrich!
@@sandgroperwookiee65 If he stuck his head in the sand he might not get sunburnt 🤣
@@russellmoore1533 very true 😁
Andrew is a natural in front of the camera!! He is so knowledgeable about Australia. Perhaps time for Andrew to start up his own YT channel on Australian sites and sounds??
My wife and I (Canada) are visiting New Zealand and Australia next month for the first time so your Australian videos were perfect!!
Cheers
Kevin
Well done Andrew, it's always good to have a knowledgeable guide to show you around. Daniella was a delight and Sydney proved to be a great City. Loved the trip.
Andrew seems a top bloke, but a knowledgeable guide is questionable!!!
Great views, Sydney is a beautiful city👍
Andrew you ae getting better and better love the banter and sense of humor. Lee you just know how to bring out the best in people.
Andrew has been a gentleman and a pleasure to watch and listen to along with you Lee. I couldn't eat tentacles. Loved ur Australian videos so far. Take care.
Never get tired if those views...Well done Andrew for being a good guide for Lee and for us...
Really liked Andrew he has been a star.
Iam so glad when we were kids Mum & Dad persuaded us to eat the local food no matter what country we were in as we did with our kids and now the Grandchildren ,you don't know what your missing Lee ,shame
Hers a "Thumbs Up" for Andrew. Cheers!
Andrew has been a super star, will miss him 😢 Hopefully you'll catch up with him next time he comes home ❤
Andrew is a gem. Well done Andrew. Daniella is a credit to Sweden and an asset to her employer.
GREAT VIDEO ,thankyou to Andrew been a pleasure to watch you both ,safe journey Lee
Nice vlog again.. with a beautiful skyline of Sydney.. and those tapas looks delicious… Andrew did a great job 👏
Australia looks so clean compared to the UK
It is
Never been to the UK but have been to Italy....Oz is definitely cleaner than there by a long way.
Most countries do.
Evonne Goolagong!! I remember her.
Andrew was great fun. Sad this Australian series has come to an end. It's been great. Well done.
Brilliant video again. Andrew was a big plus . Thank you Andrew .
The Island was Goat Island not Cockatoo Island, that is further up the Parramatta river.
Hello Andrew & Lee, my new favourite double act, love it 😀
I think it was in Yokohama Japan where you could get a squid on a stick, you eat it like you'd eat a lollipop or an ice cream walking down the street, with all the little tentacles waving at you as you go, I'm sure you would have really enjoyed that Lee 🙂
Really enjoying your Australia vlogs. Like the format of not being too silly and just let the images do the talking! 😂. Big shout out to Andrew for doing a great job as your 'sidekick'. Well done 👍
Hey Lee loved the ferry ride and that Tapas looked lovely . thank you for sharing this with us . See you in the next one bye for now . hey think she had her eyes on you . kept looking back at you xx❤xxx
Great video MacMaster & Andrew.
What a great guy, Andrew is. Full of knowledge. A friend for life MacMaster x
Safe flight to Perth
Hi Lee great vlog once again thank you Andrew for your lovely visits with Lee glad you enjoyed your meals safe journey back to Perth Lee best wishes Sheila and family
Loved watching you, Andrew, you have all the knowledge of your surroundings.
Like that s series seeing new places and you looking more chilled
Been lovely seeing Andrew nice you have had some company along the way and Andrew to keep you in check hope to see him again if you go back iam sure you will.
Andrew Paul Hogan he was a rigger on the bridge. It possibly involved painting . However unlikely. Hes is of Irish decent. His first appearance nationally was on Channel 9 newfaces programme. This opened up numerous opportunities to him. Hes is now 84 i believe. 😊
Good stuff. He's been a brilliant addition to the team. Witty, funny. Sad it's his last. Well done mate!
Another thoroughly entertaining video. Thanks 😀
I think Andrew has been brilliant the way he has taken you under his wing in Sydney. Thank you Andrew, it has all been really great viewing.
Brilliant Lee Andrew top man.
Shame you didnt get down to the headland. Beautifully landscaped with native flora.
native flora???sounds like a margarine brand.getting a bit sick of the environmental madness in oz.we cant live on concentrated protection of environment ,.species die new ones emerge.earth lives on for man ??
Great videos again Lee, safe travels back to Perth.
Daniella is a great yoga teacher! I didn't know she works in a Barangaroo restaurant too.
Well my friend, thanks for all the great videos in Australia, can’t wait to get back, already looking to put Sydney on the list, take care, and let’s go 👍
Thanks Andrew, another great video MM, I’ve really enjoyed all your videos and guest from down under
Onwards and a safe trip home 👍🏼
Well done Andrew loved the dry humour
Hi Lee loved the ferry ride the tapas looked lovelly will miss your friend on these videos great help for you 🥰👍👍
Andrew’s a good sport hope to see him again one day.
Another excellent video. We took the ferry all the way down to Parramatta which I think is the longest trip you can do. Brilliant sites along the way. You two make a great double act. Sad to see you are on your way back but hopefully you will get to go back to Sydney again.
Thank you both for the great videos
A lovely video again Lee and Andrew.
That octopus looks amazing 😊
Barangaroo was an Eora woman of the Cameragal people. Second wife of Bennelong, she was a skilled fisherwoman with presence and authority in her community and the early colony.
Another great walk about and visit to a lovely area, really enjoyed your Sydney visit and it was bringing back some great memories of lovely visits we have had there, looking forward to getting back to Perth area to see where you are going to take us this time....I think me and my wife need a trip back there to visit family....
Nice series so far, but did you ever leave the circular quay area (Manly doesn't count) ? There's a whole city out there.
Tourists seem to forget that Sydney has expanded a bit over the 180 odd years since it went west of about Redfern. 95% of Sydney's population is nowhere near the harbour or beaches
If he went out western suburbs it would spoil his opinion of Sydney..lucky he stayed central
@@ACDZ123 So you want him to only look at the shiny bits of the city and have a false impression? LMAO Well he's gonna see your comment lol
This is like someone visiting New York and only hanging around times square
Incorrect. Times square is a hell hole. I lived there.
You missed a treat there Mr Mac Master , octopus are delicious….
A couple of things; YOUR original pronunciation was correct - It is said with a hard G.. Barang-Garoo. And SHE was a woman, partner of Bennelong (site of the Opera House). Maybe get an Aussie as tour guide next visit,
BTW, Octopus and Squid are not the same - Octopus are sentient creatures - don't eat them, please.
We are going to miss Andrew. He has been absolutely great with you. Can you not bring him back with you. The videos have been fantastic and look forward to seeing a bit more of Perth
Onwards ❤❤❤
Sidney bridge looked fantastic from the boat class great job 😊👍🇬🇧
Before we did our Trans-Austrailia offroad trip on bikes, we did a survival course with an ex-SAS trooper. Yes, we did eat grubs and ants, drink water from roots. No problem.
Another great look at Skid knee. Andrew is really good value. He would make a terrific Vlogger. Thanks Lee this series has been fantastic. Next trip to Aus go out to the country areas. Some beautiful scenery. Look forward to seeing Andrew again.
Yes Paul Hogan was a Sydney Harbour Bridge painter. Fun fact: The bridge painters never finish the job, because once they get to one end it's time to start from the other end again. Do the bridge climb Lee if you get the chance. Chances are you've already got everything already planned out. Next time then, if you can't this time. 'Ere, didn't you start this Aussie adventure in Perth? Seems like a lifetime ago now. 😁
No he wasn’t, he was a rigger on the bridge
@@troy906 I saw an interview with him where he said he did a lot of painting. Maybe he was being ironic. Ancient history now anyway.
@@troy906no he was a painter and a rigger, they are the 2 main jobs of maintenance and I guess everybody did both, makes sense.
The bridge isn't painted from end to end. Maintenance and painting is carried out on specific areas that require it.
Andrew contributed calm and good company on your visit to Sydney.
Big thanks to Andrew for showing Lee around. Ive enjoyed every minute! One thing ive learned is not to watch the food videos if your hungry.
I dont know if id eat octopus either, id probably have a piece to try, but i dont dis Lee for not trying it. Everyone has different tastes.. Safe Travels Lee.. onwards!
Lee I have loved watching your Australian trip Vlogs and Andrew is a lovely fella xxx
Fantastic vlog guys, really interesting parts of Sydney. Andrew you are a star, hope to see you again soon, Lee you need a # for Andrew ❤️
Andrew, you have been a star taking lee around and showing him interesting places.
Another great video. Andrew you are great as well. Just a tip Lee flight back from Perth to LHR is longer going back. But loved it xx
Danniella is absolutely sensational. Oh my word.
Lovely video great sports will score the food 6.9 out of 10 onwards my friends
Cheers Lee, you have brought lots of memories back, we will be going again in late August 2026 as my 70th birthday is early September, when we was last there unfortunatly Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray on the 4th September 2006, even though we (at the time) lived in Worksop we felt the sadness many locals experienced.
Aww loved Andrew 😊
A great pity you will not be visiting the Blue Mountains.
Hopefully next time Russell 👍🏻
hes coming back at some point to drive from sydney to perth with Mguy. That'll be awsome!
Great Job you have made me feel like i have been in Perth and now Sidney on wards my friend 😊😊
Sydney- 2 Ys
Very good !
WIMP! Octopus is great!
Cheers dudes. Great having Andrew in the vids.
And Daniella is quite the hottie.
Not gonna lie lived in Australia all my lifè, It can get a bit hot sometimes.
Thanks for letting us know 😊
I'm looking forward to getting further into Autumn and Winter. I couldn't live in Queensland
Getting a bit posh mate I must say I'm with you on the octopus and anything with eyes (I don't like my food staring at me lol)Andrew has been a legend 👍With all the innuendo going on I thought I was watching Benny Hill🤣🤣🤣
Looks like you’ve dipped before Mardi Gras😂 your hotel would have been ground zero 🚀
Lucky he got out
Sydney's greatest asset is the harbour.
I think that’s a common misconception, the harbour is great but people focus on it too much
There is so much more that people never put in tourist vlogs
Hi Lee, we're really enjoying watching you explore Australia and the expats accompanying you have been brilliant. The weather is very grey here and watching you sweltering in that heat makes us long for the start of summer. Would love to hear you say in a Aussie voice what's your favourite colour blue or what's your favourite hobby sport, maybe not after rereading it. Anyway take care and look forward to todays video.
Good Evening Gentlemen of Australia and beyond. Two of the most Lovely and very Kind Gentlemen You are Lee and Andrew. It has been such a Joy watching the Relationship and really Funny banter between you Incredible people. Spanish Tapas, absolutely Love it!!!!!!. I have eaten real Spanish Tapas in a place in Spain called Santander, a Bank has been named after this place. Tatas Bravas, Octopus, Calamari, various types of cold meats, and also, i eaten Sword Fish Steak when i was in Malta with my Parents. What a very Beautiful and Gorgeous Food Server Daniella really was. Sometimes, in Life it is better not to be, to fussy with types of Food. There is no harm in trying different types and Flavours of Foods around the World. I really did like BARANGAOO, very modern, very Trendy and Up Coming Business's and also like London's Business Mecca Canary Wharf, but in Beautiful and Stunning Australia. May you both Enjoy the rest of your Wonderful Australian Adventure. This has been the Greatest series of Films Lee. I am very Proud of You. You are a Gentleman and so is the Lovely Andrew. I Salute You both from my Heart. It has been a real Pleasure to watch and Admire You Gentlemen. Biggest Respect to You both. Jonathan.
Good job Andrew👍
A thumbs up for the video and Andrew who deserves a medal for putting up with you for so long! 😂 Oh and a special mention for darling Daniela who brought a bit of class and glamour to the update!
Another interesting video
My stepson and his wife have 6 kids. For Christmas dinner they have octopus so they can all have a leg.
Mugabe the former leader of Zimbabwe was from Yorkshire . Spell his name backwards and what do you get? EBA GUM
@@barnowl. You have to come from Yorkshire to get the joke
You don't even have to come from Yorkshire to get that. Killer humour 😉
Captain Cook, born in the gatehouse of Stuart Park Marton in Middlesbrough. Apparently he loved his Parmo.
He wasn’t very keen on the pointy end of a big stick though, he should have remembered to duck
Superb 👌👍👏
Here's a tip for visitors.
A) get an opal card, you have to get one anyway
B) just jump on ferries and ride them around all day. Your cost is capped at $17.80 for the day! There are ferry routes all over the harbour and up the Parramatta river. Jump off one and get on another ALL DAY if you want. And who wouldn't want that?
Why pay for a cruise when you can ride public transport.
Thank me later.
Well all them villans in Dr Who were most likely 70's 80's pop stars.....I bet Elton John could have been on Dr Who with his boots he had in his hayday........I wonder if James Bond as driven an Eletctic car yet.
Hate to be picky but Paul Hogan was a rigger, not a painter. A rigger has the task of assembling the work platforms for the painters.
Thumbs up for Daniella. Well done guys and great effort by Andrew. 👋👋👌👌👍👍
i loved going on those ferries i remember laughing cos we saw a place called Birkenhead! that Swedish girl was gorgeous and i remember having Octopus in Australia as well i didn't like it it's too chewy
That's what happens when it's overcooked. Easy to do with seafood
Great video.
Andy been a good guest
Great video Lee I'm with you on the food. Don't fancy octopus the other stuff looked good though. Seeing the princess cruises ship in Sydney harbour brings back good memories for me.
Enjoyed this video with Andrew who has been an absolute star and his local knowledge has really made your Sydney videos.
I've had octopus in a seafood dish in Sibiu, Romania and it was really good. You don't know what you're missing Lee!
PS Can you please leave the video descriptions on screen for long enough for them to be read. When watching on my Smart TV I often have to rewind when they disappear half way through my reading them.
