  • We went to The FAMOUS Harry's Cafe de Wheels in SYDNEY AUSTRALIA for PIE MASH & PEAS!
Harry’s Café de Wheels has proudly served customers for over 80 years, with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Sir Elton John and Prince Harry having been some of the many to sink their teeth into our iconic ‘Tiger’ pie. It all began with Harry “Tiger” Edwards, who’s frustrations in finding a good late-night snack, led him to open a caravan café near the front gates of Woolloomooloo naval dockyard in Sydney, Australia.
He named it ‘Harry’s Café de Wheels’ - a rather bold gesture at the time to the local city council whose laws required him to move the caravan a minimum of 12 inches a day. His courage, and proven skills as a boxer, earned himself the nickname “Tiger” - a name passed down to his iconic pie - which is still served in its original location in Woolloomooloo, alongside a growing number of outlets across the globe including a growing fleet of caravan cafés (that move a“little” more than 12 inches a day).

Today will be VERY hot around Sydney - go to a chemist shop for a cheap wide hat or a department store / surf shop or china town markets ..You wilk need a good cold drink at least every 2 hours .. take care .. enjoy the city today. You were on that nice resturant strip with the yachts - thats Russle crowes pad down the far end.
I worked just around the corner for a lon time in pharmacy.. i know the area very well.
Drinking Crystal - No ... I know the cheap bottle of sparkling wine that is more ordered around Sydney East.. It's called JANZ from Tasmania. Not to expensive but definitely the tastes of Australia.
P.s. pieface chain of pies around the city is my actual favourite. Chunky beef or chicken curry is better than anything. I've eaten a lot of pies to compare 😂

Harry's has lost its class used to be outside the gates of Garden Island Naval Base. Nothing like a Harry's floor show at closing time with a pie and peas and a bottle of port light, it is where we learned all the shanties. The sailors called it Harry's cafe de axles no wheels. He would let the sailors hide there beer from the crushers behind the wagon. My those were the days

I used to live in The 'Loo, when I was a school kid, in the early '70s. Back then it was a working suburb. The finger wharf and the others either side of it were very busy working wharves. I lived next to the wool store at the bottom of Brougham St. When my brother and I finished our paper run in the naval base we used to stop by Harry's and buy pies and hot dogs when it was a little caravan outside the gates of the naval base. Harry had just sold his business to another bloke the year before. After moving away and not eating one of Harry's pies for 20 years I tried the current version you guys ate. I thought that they were a letdown from the original.

Fortunately the doc managed to get it all although she had to cut quite long, wide and deep. (BBQ anyone?)
52 stitches later and I'm not quite so keen to renew my intimate relationship with Sol. At least not without adequate protection.

When Harrys was located in its original position outside the Navy Base entrance gates which is approx 400 metres from here it is located these days, it was great venue for the meeting of the serviceman. It was great value for money and the food was incredible. I was moved to its current location from memory in the 80's? Regretfully today it is overrated and overpriced and only survives on its reputation of past days.

My brothers and I used to tie our trailer boats up at the ladder on the wharf beside Harry’s, go get a couple of pies and a six pack of beer and sit on the wharf eating and drinking. You could see the toffs in those restaurants looking at us eating our pies, with mash, peas and gravy and swigging beers while they are paying a shit load of money for a lesser feed. I used to love rub it in. By the way, the woolloomooloo wharf adjacent to Harry’s used to be where the migrant ships used to arrive. My family arrived there in 1954 and now is a very expensive hotel, restaurants and expensive home units.

That was slightly nostalgic for me. When I first moved to Sydney I lived in the Woolloomooloo area. (Expensive so it didn't last!). But yeah Harrys or grabbing a coffee at one of the fancy places (but not actually eating there 😜) and walking around the warves.
Others have mentioned wide brim hats. But also if you prefer a baseball cap style of hat, especially whilst filming, you can get these sun smart ones in pharmacies or surf shops or other clothing stores. They are SPF 50 rated and have a flap attached the side and back that will cover your ears and the back of your neck. I have one which I find handy for when out walking especially near the ocean as other hats tend to blow off in the breeze.
And always take sunscreen with you as it needs to be re applied every 4 hours. You can get little travel size ones or roll on deodorant style ones.

The home of the the Pie Floater is Port Pirie in South Australia around the 1890’s. Has been blossomed to rest of Australia. 🍻

Nice looking pie there mate. I'll go a 9/10. Can't believe they charge extra for using card though. That's just wrong. I'd just pay cash out of principle. Great video mate👍

Australia looks amazing,I'd love to be there. No flag waving protestors for reasons they dont know.No illegal ungratefull criminals taking the piss with taxpayers cash benifits and no undesirable riffraff. The UK is so ruined,...I would move to Austtralia in a heartbeat

Perception is a wonderful thing , however , I hate to tell you , but Australia does have its fair share of illegal immigrants , there’s no shortage of flag wavers, there’s daily gangland shootings and don’t even think about getting sick and seeing a doctor ,you’ll need a bank loan first that …. Still want to come here ?

What a Superb uncut and everything kept in. This is what i call a Proper MacMaster video of Fun and Banter between two of the most Loveliest Gentlemen you could ever. I really liked this Snack Bar/ Van. Harry's Cafe De Wheels. Very Customer Service with a Smile and hand prepping those Wonderful Pies. This was for me " Off the Charts ". They looked really Delicious, Tasty, Succulent and there was plenty of filling with the Mashed Peas and the Inviting Creamed Potato, finished off with Rich Delicious Gravy. I would Score this Delicious Food a Generous 5 Star:.... 10++/10. Forget those so called Pretentious Over Priced and idiots showing to the Millionaires, Give me a really Good Family Snack Van any day. They are being very Honest and Not taking the Customer for a ride. We should Support Family run Business's that really Care about there Customers. Thank you very much for listening.

Rich & poor in Sydney by the looks too. Wish my family never sold our 70s lake front Macquarie cottage,in the 80s . Ordinary people could live there on the water there then. Now id have to win the lotto twice.
