  • The Holystone Remote ID module is the cheapest available. Why should complying with Remote ID be expensive? This RID module by Holystone is under a hundred dollars, is simple to setup and use, weighs just 14 grams and is actually available for shipping. I mount it to the Parrot Anafi and take it for a flight test. 🚨 Use code GadgetRID for 20% OFF: amzn.to/3vr50pO.
    Thank you to Holystone for providing the device for review.

    Nice video. I’m a fixed wing flyer and even though I have an e-flite remote ID I just got one of these. Plugging the e-flight one into the receiver works fine but sometimes I like to bring more than one model to the field, and some airplanes don’t have easy access once assembled. This little thing with its own battery should be quite handy.
    Not sure about the whole remote ID thing. Might make casual drone buyers think twice, but someone intent on doing bad things is going to home build and not comply with the remote ID law either.

    • @GadgetInspector
      @GadgetInspector  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're right, it will likely deter some people, in addition to the new "DJI ban" going through Congress right now. I'm honestly not sure how the FAA can/will enforce RID though. It's no big deal to me as most of my drones already have RID built in, but I'm glad to have this module for when I'm flying something that doesn't.

    • @JeffinTD
      @JeffinTD หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hopefully some sensibility will prevail on the DJI thing.
      I’m in the opposite situation in that I mainly have giant gas airplanes that do not have rfid, but I mainly fly in FRIA areas where remote ID is not required. But I want a module for those times I fly outdid if an approved RC field. Yeah, I’d also guess it unlikely a person would get caught, but I am also a follow the law kinda guy.

      You bet. You really don't need one for the Atom unless you're flying part 107 since it's sub-250 grams. If you're flying recreationally, you don't need it.

    New tosay to you channel. Very interesting info on the RID. I fly back of my house, the field i go to is FAA approved, but the members hate helicopters, only 3 of 75 people have them.
    So ill be leaving the membership in July.

    Whats you thought on the money end of each????😊

    • @GadgetInspector

      I think the Holystone is the one to get if you’re trying to be economical. It works fine and actually FAA approved. Dronetag has a cool app and smaller form factor, but not sure that’s worth the extra money.

    When I add this to the FAA site I listed it as for my Mavic drone. However, I fly RC planes as well. Once this is registered and I switch the module from my drone to me RC plane do I need to change a setting to do that, and do I have to add all of my planes to the FAA site? Thanks for the video.

    • @GadgetInspector

      My understanding is that only one module is required for hobbyists. For part 107 they want a unique module for each aircraft. Every drone over 249 grams has to be registered. I believe it’s only $5 for every drone of for recreational use. $5 per drone for part 107.

  • @slapdat.byteme

    When setting up the Remote ID,what is it that goes on the ID line,the serial number of the remote?? ,my FAA registration number?

    • @GadgetInspector
      @GadgetInspector  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The serial number is the Remote ID and that auto-populates. If you want to add your registration number you can put that on the Operator ID line, but I don't think it's required based on what I've read: www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/remote_id.

    The higher you fly the greater the range of the Remote ID transmitter. Tech specifications for Remote ID range #
    Broadcasting Direct Remote ID data through one of the mandatory technologies (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth) is sufficient to comply with the regulations, even though both channels can be combined. Regarding general ranges, Wi-Fi offers a greater range, thanks to 10 times higher transmission power than Bluetooth (100mW vs. 10mW). The Wi-Fi Remote ID transmission can reach kilometers, but it also comes with some downsides; for example, Wi-Fi add-on modules are known for common issues with the interference of drones' internal hardware, which can use the same frequency channel
    Bluetooth technology used in Direct / Broadcast Remote ID is different than the one we all know from smartphones, headphones and speakers. Remote ID devices are equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which provides one-way communication only through broadcasting from the aircraft. Due to that, Bluetooth BLE is capable of transmitting a signal over a much greater distance than Standard Bluetooth, which reaches hundreds of meters range. Bluetooth BLE can reach up to 3 km (1.86 miles) in unobstructed outdoor conditions, as confirmed by multiple field tests.

    • @GadgetInspector
      @GadgetInspector  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the great info. I'll do some more testing to find out why I was getting such limited range. I believe my iphone picks up BLE but maybe it's a setting I need to turn on.

    Great video! Thank you for the clear explanation! It's funny that the Drone Scanner App can only track an SUAS to 500 feet. I guess the Official (FAA or local Law enforcement) will pretty much have to be right near you to track your drone? I am a 107 Pilot and will be fully compliant with Remote ID.

      Do you really believe the Secret Service is using phone apps to find aircraft information?

    • @GadgetInspector
      @GadgetInspector  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just wouldn't be surprised if there's tech available to the gov't that exceeds what's available to consumers. Not a stretch by any means. But....I tend to believe that the FAA has some much bigger fish to fry right now considering their shortage of air traffic controllers and huge swath of impending retirements, the airline maintenance concerns, etc.

    • @GadgetInspector
      @GadgetInspector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea you'd have to change the specs each time, that's the only downside. There's no way to add multiple profiles. I'll send that as a suggestion to Holystone. Maybe they can make that a feature in a firmware update.

    • @GadgetInspector
      @GadgetInspector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just confirmed that you can only use the module with one drone at a time, so you will have to change the drone every time in the app. Doesn't sound like they plan on changing that.
