After a lot of research I ended up buying this drone. My friend had bought a DJI Mini 2 and was so impressed by the Potensic that he returned the DJI and got this drone and the fly more kit that comes with the three extra batteries and the tandem charger for less than what he had paid for the basic DJI package with just one battery.
Wow. I think it'd be hard for me to go from a Mini 2 to the Atom BUT if I was trying to save money I'd do it. Solid little drone.
@@GadgetInspector We're beginners mostly flying for fun, so no professional videoing of any kind. In this case the savings with the Potensic trumped the DJI's quality. :)
got mine like a week ago. Man I cant stop flying this drone. I love how easy it is for beginners. Totally got the fly more combo and I am not mad at all. Straight out of the box and in the air more or less. Just a great product to start with.
Glad you're enjoying it. My main con with the first iteration was the lack of a gimbal. Now that they remedied that there's not much negative I can say about this drone (except for the horizon tilt which they've already addressed in a firmware update). They can continue to build on this with updates and new iterations in the future.

Yes you can, but weight of the drone will exceed 250 g.
It works with almost no differences, except overall shape. Time of flying is the same.
Hello, what about the remote controller ? Does the remote controller of Atom SE is compatible with Gimbal version ? as it looks like same remote controller is used in both versions. Do you guys have any idea ?
Just purchased one of these and I’m so glad I found your video. So informative and a very easy voice to listen to. I’m a subscriber, thanks again
Hey Mark! So glad you stumbled upon my lil 'ol channel. Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard. If there's something you'd ever like to see on the channel just let me know and I'll see if I can make it happen.
Great in-depth and objective review! Thank you for your time and effort.
I have watched many of videos and this is the best one I have seen with plenty of detail. 👍 Thanks
I really appreciate your work! clear concise your demeanor of presentation is calming.
I've watched this a few times and it has been extremely helpful! Subscribed and watched follow -up. Magnifico!
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Stay tuned for more, I'm trying to upload at least once a week now.
I have been looking for about a year for a drone, I saw your SE vs Holystone review, and usually I find these review so dull, but it is all about the creator's approach and personality and with yours I watched it all. The next day found the gimbal model review and it convinced me to buy the flymore pack - now I probably need to get a decent phone to attach!! Thanks for an excellent review.
Wow, that's such good feedback. I appreciate it! Hard to know how well you're doing until someone tells you. Man I'm glad I'm not as boring as my kids say I am. 🤣 Hope you enjoy the drone.
I have been waiting for your detailed review for some time 😊 Great job as usual 😉👍
Yo -another good fair review - i like u r style reviewing and flying these techno worderbirds!!😊😊
I just received My Flymore Combo version of this drone, flew it for the first time this morning in my rather windy backyard - what a fantastic little machine! Thank you so much for the great and informative review, your video got me to purchase this drone.
Glad you're enjoying it. Sounds like everyone is digging it as much as I am.
Man I have been building FPV quadcopters way before any were commercial so I’ve seen a few reviews and you are extremely informative and pleasant at the same time. Great review.
Thanks for that. I got into quads about 8 years ago or so and things have advanced a lot since then. But....getting out a soldering iron and building your own will never get old. It's been a few years now, but I had a couple years in my quad journey where I was learning how to build, fly, crash, repair, repeat and it was probably the most rewarding time I've had since I joined the hobby. Had my fair share of magic smoke as well lol. I'd like to get back into that at some point.
Yo guy... You do an amazing review. Loved it and going to buy one of these in the near future.
Looking forward to your next video. 👍
Thanks man, I appreciate the comment. Hope you enjoy the drone. I do have another video I need to finish editing on the Atom.
Thank you for another great review. Merry Christmas to you and to your loved ones.

Thank you heaps for your thorough review, i have bought 3 cheap drones and are absolutely crap so i finally forked out a little more cash and got the atom, just waiting to take delivery of the drone. 😊 but I've never been so comfortable about buying a drone till now so thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Hope you enjoy it. I was out flying mine today. 25 degrees with several feet of snow. Atom performed very well.
That was one of the best demo's I have seen on TH-cam I have seen up to now, I'm in the UK so we have different rules with the aviation authority but much the same as yours, very informative and it's now time for me to get a better drone than the toy's I have been trying to get the basics this has made my mind up, thank you.
Well hello from across the pond! Glad to hear this was helpful. I was just out flying the ATOM the other day, 25 degrees with beautiful snow covered scenery. Footage and photos came out nice.
sweet bird there!
the "fly more" kit with 3 batteries seems like the best option!
autumm of 24 should look super sweet with this one!

Amazing review and amazing 3-Axis Gimbal.
Hello, I am curious to know that can we use the remote controller of the drone Potensic Atom SE for the drone Potensic Atom Gimbal version ? as it looks like same remote controller is used in both versions. Do you have any idea ?
I bought mine few months ago love this thing so much fun. Decent pricing. Great video. . FYI never used it but seems the orbit number is how many times it orbits around you. Hence the timer after it did 2 trips around you on 2.
2nd video I've watched on this drone. I'm thinking about getting one. Seems to have everything i want..
Got mine today, great video thank you!

Very good review GI. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased the autel nano plus and I am really liking it right now.
I’ve still not tried Autel. Kinda crazy with how long I’ve been flying.
@@GadgetInspector I have a least 4 or 5 DJI quads but I like Autel because you don't have to worry about the NFZ's.
That's one of the reasons I liked Parrot drones. I'm gonna have to budget for an Autel and check them out. I remember back in the day I wanted one of those Xstar Premiums so bad but never got one.
@@GadgetInspector I have an XStar Premium but I haven't flown it for a couple of years now.
I can’t wait to buy this I love your reviews u just got another sub and also is there a video or could u tell me how far you actually tested it can go?
I never really do range tests but I can tell you that I have not had any dropouts or anything like that when flying this drone.
Great review, thank you. Subscribing for more.
Hey thanks for the feedback! Glad the video was helpful and welcome aboard!
A couple of time you mentioned that you talked too much. No you didn't. I appreciated all your comments, especially the ones comparing the Atom to the Atom SE. I'm seriously considering buying either the Atom or the SE (another possibility is the Holy Stone 360S). Trying to balance features and cost.
Well I appreciate the feedback. I always hope my videos are helpful.
That has one of the best, non-dji level, of follow me and other quick flights I have seen.
I bought the SE and immediately fell in love with it, then I realized I bought the wrong one. I gave the SE to my grandson and bought the Atom for me. Now I dont have to fly my Dji Mavic Pro 2 all the time. This little guy is impressive, and it has 2x Zoom! This thing is fast in sport mode! Super easy to fly! My only complaint is that the speaker placement in the remote is absolutely pitiful. You can hardly hear it if you're in a busy area with lots of background noise. Its best to pair your device to a Bluetooth speaker or ear buds.
Yea not a whole lotta bad things to say about this bird. Glad you're enjoying it and hope your grandson enjoys the SE. Nice gift!
Great video. I got my potensic about a month ago, and im loving it. I was hoping it would be a good buy, and im definitely impressed. I have one quick question: Have you done any night shots with the potensic? If so, what do you think? Thank you for the great vids. They are well done.
I haven't but I did capture some video in lower light and it was a little noisy. I'd like to give it another shot when I'm being more deliberate about it though. It has manual camera settings.
Really, REALLY appreciate the time and effort it took for you to produce this. Seriously - I've made a few little videos here and there, and this was SO comprehensive - thank you so much!
I have a couple questions, now that you've had this for a while. Which DJI drone would you say this most closely competes with? (Perhaps the newly-released Mini 4k - $50 more for fly-more combo?) I have the DJI Pocket 3, and LOVE it. It just...works. Plus, the ability to shoot in D-Log and grade with a snap using any of the editors (I've been using CapCut and loving it, but LightCut is pretty fantastic as well for quick things). I've poked around the manual for the Potensic and can't seem to see anything about video codecs, so I'm assuming everything's baked in - is that your experience? Have you tried to push the footage at all? My needs for a drone are NOT huge - as much as I WANT the mini 4 pro (with the RC2), I do NOT want to spend 1k for it, lol. I'd be using this mostly for aerial shots of golf courses I frequent, while using the Pocket 3 for 95% of everything else on the ground. I'm a beginner, so I may be better off looking for a used DJI with obstacle avoidance, but just trying to figure out the best next move :) Once again, hugely grateful for your effort in putting this review together, and looking forward to what else you produce!
I watched a video the other day a guy flying a Potensic Atom with all working just fine maybe something else 💯
I am anxious to hear you compare this to similar- anafi in particular ( which needs the RID thingy doo).
It's not a comparison per se, but I mount an RID module to the Anafi in this video: th-cam.com/video/z-XMrCNEfVw/w-d-xo.html
Excellent video! Very informative. Question for you... Are there ND filters available for the Potensic camera?
Found one of these under the Christmas tree. Great little drone. I didn't want a DJI drone because Google won't publish the app since they have encrypted code in it. Really shady on DJIs part. Definitely not sideloading that.
Well this is a really good alternative to DJI. Hope you enjoy it.
Is there a way to set the video and photos to save to your phone automatically?
I love the potensic remote… its balance compare to other drones
100% agree. It's my favorite of all my drones including DJI...with the exception of the DJI RC controllers with the built in display.
Which is better among dji mavic minni v potensic atom
Hello i want to upgrade from the Anafi i have thanks to you videos is this one a candidate. Happy Christmas.
I think the Anafi has some uniqueness so I wouldn't necessarily call this an upgrade or really make a direct comparison. The ATOM is under 250 grams so no registration or remote ID and it has a LOT to like. Moreso a budget alternative to the DJI Mini series or Autel Nano series of drones.
Hello. Will the Pixel 7 Pro w/a slim case fits in the controller?
The tilted horizon in your video wasn't as bad as some I've seen in other videos, but still needs work. Also in some of your "higher altitude" videos, the horizon displays some "fisheye" effect. Likely a result of just being a lesser expensive lens on the camera than some other quads. Still pretty decent though. Nice review video.
Potensic addressed the horizon tilt in a recent firmware update. I'll be posting a video on it soon. Hmm, I'll have to look for that, but I didn't really notice any fisheye. That happens when a drone has a small sensor with a wide field of view. If it's there I barely noticed if at all.
This is very impressive. I have a mini 4 pro and I am not sure its a whole lot better than this.
I just got the M4Pro myself and you're right, for a lot of people the Atom is sufficient. But the DJI is higher quality in a lot of ways. Maybe I'll do a comparison video 🤔.
I bought my potensic atom 3 axis and love it . The thing in after filming I am transferring the videos to my phone and I realised that the video is like a kind of readjusting the colours or image every second i mean every moment.....I don't understand why is the quality of video so bad so I am thinking if I take th footage straight from the card instead of having it via wireless it might be ok.....?
Yep, that's likely it. Always grab the footage directly from the card and make sure it's a card that accommodates for 4K footage.
It has follow you option?
Hi g.i that circle me looks like its circling a point not on you as its not actually on you or it would keep you in the centre of the screen but its not as you can see on the second circle me you did
Wondering if you can tell me, on the Camera menu, where it says "Seg Recording" with the options of Auto, 1, 3 or 5? What is that for? Any idea? Thanks in advance!
I believe that allows you to set how long the video clips are. I've seen this on other drones and cameras. Next time I fly my Atom I'll test it out, but that's my initial thought. I honestly hadn't paid attention to that before you mentioned it.
Dude .. where do you live? It looks like Mr. Rogers neighborhood everything looks so picturesque and colorful.
This is Western Michigan. I never thought about it like that, but now that you mention it. Definitely some Mr. Rogers vibes depending on what part of town you're in.
Test ifs the new Atom app will function with the SE so us who can't afford the new drone will still get the new features. Also check if the batteries are interchangeable between the models. Thanks.
The batteries are definitely interchangeable but if you use the SE batteries in the Atom it takes it over 250-grams. I doubt that the app is compatible though but I'll see if I can check that.
@@GadgetInspector Thanks a lot. That's a big help as I already have 4 batteries for my SE.
AAA+++Bedford, Texas========Thanks========
for me the main question is longevity and reliability the video quality isnt the biggest problem for m im just wanting to play around for now anyway . but if 2 months in it suddenly doesnt work anymore i ll gladly pay the extra $ for the DJI mini 3 pro
Yea that's the question with most things. So far so good with mine. But....if you're concerned about it and have the funds, why not just grab a Mini 3 Pro?
Those numbers on the orbit and boomerang are the number of times it will do it, as 1 orbit, 2 orbits ect 😊
Does the 3 axis Potensic have white balance/exposure lock when recording video? I think this camera has a fair bit of potential...but really hoping it has that feature to maximise the output.
In auto, you can set EV. In manual, you can set ISO, shutter and white balance.
Cool! But there is a question, which drone to choose DJI Mini 2 or Potensic Atom. Please advise. Thank you!
How does the tranmission perofm ina forest for instance?
Not sure, haven't tested that but I would expect it to be even better due to the lack of interference from other 2.4ghz signals.
I got the same drone recently, after considering it vs a Holy Stone. The app has “Login” & “register” options, but every time I try to register, it says the network is not available, try again later. (Even when I’m home) Is it because I bought it used? Thanks for any advice.
Great video, very informative and engaging! Would it stand to reason that adding a gimbral protector would eliminate the issues while flying in sport mode since it would block the wind? Potensic doesnt have one for their Atom as far as i can tell, but Fimi has one for their x8 mini, which i am trying to decide between the two.
I think Potensic has mostly addressed the horizon tilt issue: th-cam.com/video/TP8X6qcexUI/w-d-xo.html. I've actually never used a gimbal protector in flight. Does that really help?
@@GadgetInspector no idea! Im new to this so i thought id ask lol Seems like it would help alleviate wind fighting against the gimbral no?
@@nota_verygood_huntingchannel Here’s my real question: why is your hunting channel not very good? 😂
@@GadgetInspector haha because unlike many other hunting channels, i rarely get anything! 😵💫

The dedicated button to start video is the left trigger button. You can also start video from the app.
First, thank you for your excellent analysis of both the Atom and the Atom SE. When first viewed last summer, the camera leveling problems stopped me from purchasing the drone. They seem to have corrected many of the issues. The camera seems to have also been improved, but as the seasons are not the same, it's hard to tell. The lack of color in the trees impairs that analysis. Did you find any problems with lack of detail on closeup views, as other reporters have indicated? Secondly, when an altitude is set, does that altitude stay the same as set at the home point, or does the actual altitude vary with the undulating terrain, as in hilly country, i.e. maintaining the same altitude above the terrain? Thanks again for your videos.
I can't really speak to closeup shots, I don't really look to capture those. When it comes to terrain recognition, this drone doesn't have anything like that so as the elevation changes you will need to manually adjust the height of the drone to accommodate.
Frankly, I'm torn between the Potensic Atom and the DJI mini 2 SE. As with others, I am concerned with the current hullabaloo going on re: the DJI drones. The $50 or so dollars for the DJI seems worth it after reading some comparison videos I have seen. Thanks for the response. Maintaining a status 100 feet above ground, regardless of terrain, I would think would be a lot more costly. @@GadgetInspector
Hi. If you set the height at 200ft and you fly towards a mountian that is 250ft would the drone rise up as the ground under it comes up or would it crash into the mountian. The reason I ask is there’s no level Terran where I live like it’s your at sea level one minute and 6-700 ft the next. And they say you can’t fly above 400 ft as I do know the reason for that.
Hey Ray. The drone would most certainly crash right into that mountain. The operator would need to take the drone to above 250 to avoid disaster. Most if not all consumer drones that I know of don’t have the proper sensors for automatically adjusting to terrain elevation changes. The 400 ft agl rule applies to where you took off so if you’re on a mountain that’s 500ft tall you can fly up to 900 feet. Also, if you are in close proximity to a structure you can fly 400ft above that. This is straight from the part 107 reg: “The altitude of the small unmanned aircraft cannot be higher than 400 feet above ground level unless the small unmanned aircraft is (1) flown within a 400-foot radius of a structure, and (2) does not fly higher than 400 feet above the structure’s immediate uppermost limit.”
@@GadgetInspector thank so much this is good info I have the potensic atom 3 axis on the way and I’m going on you fellas in regards of a good low price drone. I have always wanted to do my private pilot licence but I couldn’t pass the medical. So I think this is as close as I’m going to get to being a private pilot lol. Thanks again and happy new year to you and your family.
Can I use an older phone with no service, no 5g or wifi connection, just use as a screen and still fly?
If the phone can't connect to wifi you won't be able to use it. You don't need data but you will need to be able to connect to the drones wifi signal.
What wud happen if you put it in sports mode then lowered the drone to where you had it to start with when it told you to go higher to put it in sport mode
It won't let you switch to sports mode until you're at a certain height.

Wait. I got a drone that’s above 250 grams. Do I have to have anything for that?
It just means you have to register: www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/register_drone
Hello again. Just a quick Q would you buy the potensic 3 axil gimbal or the dji mini pro 4
Well, we could talk a long time about which drone to buy and why, but the short answer is, it depends. The mini 4 pro is simply a much more advanced drone and the price reflects that. The Potensic is more in the budget category and the price reflects that. You just have to ask yourself whether the more advanced machine is worth the expense for you or if something more budget friendly makes sense. Especially if this is your first drone and you’re still getting familiar with quadcopters. With all of that said, I’m actually considering the pro 4 or the Air 3 because they both have side obstacle avoidance. I currently own the mini 3 pro and the Air2S, both fantastic drones but neither has the 360 degree sensors. I’m thinking about selling my mini 3 pro towards one of the new models.
@@GadgetInspector yes I get where your coming from when it come to high tec you have to pay the higher price Although I got the potensic on the way I’m thinking I should go with the dji pro 4 for the reason it as obstacle avoidance and I can see that being a good feature to have in my area Okay that you so much
@@raybutt4084 I say go for it then Ray. DJI does drones the best, it's not even close. They're even making noise in the camera market now. Don't rely too heavily on the obstacle avoidance though, it's darn good, but not foolproof.
Bought it to avoid the Geo Zones.( didnt read this lol)
Nope, no geo zones on this one. I believe you can turn on beginner mode to limit height and distance, but it's optional.
I recently got this drone. Do you have any videos about how to get pics n vids onto your phone in 4k? It seems my videos resort back to 1280.
Hmm, I'll have to look at that when I fly this one next. I usually just pull photos and video off the SD Card. You'll definitely get the highest quality that way.
@GadgetInspector how do you do that? Do I need to take the SD card out and install it in my phone? Sorry for the ignorance, I'm new to this, and the manuals don't cover this stuff these days.
Oh, sorry I didn't clarify. I seldom download drone photos and videos to my phone. I put the SD card in my computer and transfer them over. Then I can edit them if I want and then, since I use a Mac, I can just airdrop the photos or video over to my iPhone. But you can totally connect your phone to your computer and move the photos/videos over from there.
I believe after the update you can change the low voltage level. It defaults to 30%. I you lower it you can fly longer.
I'm editing a video on the most recent firmware update right now. I didn't see that. Do you know where it is in the settings?
@@GadgetInspector I dont. I think it was under safety or battery. Tomorrow I will try to fire it up and check and get back to you.
It also added a digital zoom with scroll wheel pop up. Limited but nice to have. Nice update.
@@GadgetInspector Im sorry, I cant find it now either. It may have been on one of my other drones but I was sure I had seen it after the update.
How can I take photos while I am recording?
Drones that allow you to do that are just taking a screenshot rather than taking an actual photo. Most if not all of the more advanced drones require you to stop video to take a photo.
Very good reviews and would be more excellent if you remove the screen recorder. Thank you
It's always a challenge to balance that. It's good for viewers to see but also to see the image from the drone. I try to drop out the app view throughout the flight.
Hi potensic Atom SE owners have you upgraded your SE camera zoom in zoom out with a 2024 update.
I like your review but it would be great if you used your go pro less and give a full screen of the drone. Jard to tell just how good the quality is when you only have the done showing on a quarter of the sreen. screen
Sounds like you may not have watched much of the video. I know it's long but I like to be thorough. There's tons of footage from the drone full screen off and on starting here: 20:29.
Are there aftermarket batteries to make these drones fly for longer?
I doubt it and wouldn't recommend it if there were. I'd stick to OEM batteries for drones.
@@GadgetInspector I'm very new to the drone scene and I am most interested in finding a drone with a loiter time of 45-1 hour. Willing to sacrifice everything to reach that loiter time. Are there any sub 1k drones that can make that happen? From the research I've done the best way to make it somewhat economical is to build my own, such as a falconrad fpv. Look forward to hearing back from you.
Yea if you're handy, building your own is probably the best option.
Mine flew away.......disconnected from the controller and took off. Didnt come back....last picture i saw on the camera was a location over a mile away. Never saw it again. Probably flew until the battery died. Who knows where it went. 🤷

Yep. I think I covered that in the firmware update video on this drone.
If you want to use a tablet instead of a phone, you have to use a tablet that has 4g or 5g service. Make sure the tablet is no more than a few years old. I bought an 8" Samsung galaxy tab A that was made in 2020 from eBay for $40 and it works good. The older tablets are too slow and the screen freezes constantly. The newer the tablet the better.
