Wilbur and Anastasia were rescued from a northern California equine "sanctuary" and rescue. The shelter had to stop its operations and animal control intervened to take custody of the horses and other animals...including two pigs, Wilbur and Anastasia.
Wilbur lived in a 20x30 dirt lot, while Anastasia languished in a 10x15' pen. They have spent years in these small enclosures.
This is the story of their rescue and liberation to green pastures and more space than they have ever known.

I hate when people say pigs are messy and stupid I had pet pigs for several years and they are the smartest animals I have ever seen and they never once pooed in their sleeping area
They only poo in their sleeping area when people lock them up in crates with very little space to move around

@@EthanPDobbins Pigs don't pee in their water for fun. Animals don't have that sense of 'doing something for fun'. Sure they have a fun side and love to play but to pee in a bucket for fun is not how they think or enjoy themselves (that's how humans behave/think). So actually your pig is not stupid at all - he sounds frustrated. Maybe you should consider giving him up so that he can have a better quality of life.

I had tears in my eyes. One of my most beloved pets was Magdalene, a piglet I rescued from a farmer (she was the weakest in the litter, couldn't get any milk) and raised to be a beautiful sow. Pigs are such amazing, intelligent and friendly animals, I don't understand why people see them just as a source of meat.

I miss the days of the old farmers. I come from a family of farmers. The ones who took pride in keeping their stocks happy and health rather they were raised for meat, dairy, eggs, or simply to keep the lands grazed. Today there is no heart or mind to the animal's well being. It's bad enough they're killed or used against their will, but they're life is made miserable, painful, until the bitter end.
No animal wants to die no matter how well it was kept. Still inhumane.

So the pig was taken out of a dirt pen, moved into a grassy field, where it immediately dug a hole so that it could root and wallow in...dirt. Not seeing the value of the grass here.

AnimalPlace i am from a farm family back a generation but moved to the city at a very young age but i do remember my grandmother's pigs rooting up all grass and they were in a very large pen. my grandparents were egg farmers but all free range back then...they were treated like children. coops always spic and span...my grandpa made their feed himself so he knew it was healthy.. they had one cow and when her milk would dry up we would trade eggs to the next farm for milk. i loved it there, i hated my mom for making me leave it too. never had the money to have my own, but it remains a dream. thank you for your kindness to these beautiful creatures

Pig looks healthy to me. I'm all for raising animals for food. Nothing wrong with raising a pig to be eaten.
What's wrong is starting an animal "sanctuary" and not properly caring for the animals.
It's sad that an animal should have to be rescued twice.
Also, while I support small-scale subsistence farming, I definitely do not support the commercial meat industry.

I love rescues. You can see the change in their eyes as they realize their life has changed for the better.
There was a 3rd pig but a few of the women couldn't help themselves.
When I was a kid, a friend of mine reached over and put his left hand on a fence so that he could lean while talking. A hog bit off three of his fingers. While feeding hogs I put my foot on the fence for balance so I could dump the food over the fence into the trough, a hog grabbed my converse by the toe and tore the rubber end off. I worked with a man who had his entire calf muscle torn off by a wild boar. There is nothing kind, cute or cuddly about these animals if you think there is, try going near a Sow with her brood.

Great video, and great story. But I have to wonder...are these women vegan? It's all well and good to rescue animals, but what did these ladies go home and have for dinner? The probable hypocrisy makes it hard to take seriously. Like someone kind of being a little into some hobby. 'Yeah sometimes I rescue animals on the weekends. But I had bacon and eggs this morning. I don't wanna get too carried away. Plus if I rescue a couple animals I can put it on Facebook and people will think I'm a great person.' Just an observation...

Absolutely not. I'm vegan and not really thin, about a size 10. I really like high fat whole foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, and oils. I also bake vegan goodies way too much. All vegans aren't Freelee thin. I'm questioning because from what I saw on their other content there's nothing related to cruelty and animal rights. Mind you, I'm not thin but I'm also not as big as the ladies in this video. So now that you pointed it out, and being honest, for which I'm 100% unapologetic, yes looking at their size it's very likely those are not the physiques of vegans which makes this channel and its content extremely ironic and hypocritical.
How is it hypocritical? Just because one isn't vegan doesn't mean that they consume meat or sponsor slaughter houses. They could be vegetarians. . I've been a vegetarian for 14+ years. Me and my husband have 7 cows, 12 goats, 5 ducks and 15 chickens. Not to mention 2 horses, 4 dogs and 2 cats. I milk my goats and cows. I use the money from selling eggs and milk to provide for all my animals. We live on a 40 acre property. I don't take milk from calves. Do you know that most cows liked to be milked. By hand of course. I have one that will actually get jealous if I don't milk get first. I love all my animals. And don't consider any animal as a food animal. I get a lot of bashing from vegans about my farm. Most come from the ones who have never once touched a cow much less had a relationship with one. Most don't know that chickens lay unfertilized eggs almost daily. So everyday I have to search for eggs around the coop. If not you'll have rotten eggs all around. So why not collect and sell? When I say sell I don't mean I have company. Lots of people perfer fresh cruel free eggs and milk. Especially older people. I would never ever hurt or allow anyone to hurt my babies. I love them dearly.

Erik Luscalzo You're wrong its in human nature to kill and eat animals, we didnt become farmers till after millenia of being solely hunters. so apathy is a biological predisposition developed over thousands of years because its better to not care about things you're about to kill. The first time we started caring about animals was about 30,000 years ago when we first adopted taymyr wolves.
If it's in human nature then why don't you go outside and kill and eat the neighborhood cats and dogs? If you put a child in a room with a bowl of strawberries and a bunny, what will their instincts tell them to do? Most people only eat meat when it's been killed for them and cooked and cut up and seasoned so it doesn't remind them of a corpse.

However parents only let their kids eat pre-approved food. Do you disagree that its human nature to eat animals?
Wheatley Humans are herbivores. We don't have sharp teeth like a lion. We don't have an omnivore jaw. Erik is right if you can't hunt down an animal and rip it apart without cooking like every other carnivore, it's safe to say you probably aren't one. Plus it's just cruel. I recommend you watch a documentary such as Earthlings.
