- Animal Place saved 3,000 hens from an egg farm where they would have been gassed and dumped in the local landfill. These are their first moments of freedom - out of cages and into sanctuary.

These freed hen videos always bring tears to my eyes, partly through joy, partly through sorrow for what they’ve been through.
Perfectly said as I sit here with a happy and sad heart.... Lots of tears. My one legged hen, Betty Jean Bocker has her own condo in our house. Long story! She has a very very very spoiled girl. 🥰

Words can't express how livid I am when I see shit like this. No reason why these animals be trapped in cages and only touch ground after adulthood.

WouldYouJust _ Wouldn’t say skinny. That’s just their breed. If anything their plumage is rather ragged and that’s usually what makes chickens look larger than the actually are.
I was going to say the same thing. My leghorns are pampered beyond belief and they're much smaller than my buff orphingtons. I think people don't realize that there are many different breeds with different uses.
So happy to watch them hop and fly around .. they deserve a good life.

But their brothers were probably thrown in a grinder the day they hatched because people who have egg layers only want females. For every egglaying hen in the world, a male was murdered for being 'useless'.

I also love seeing how kindly your volunteers lifted them from their containers. it just goes to show the care you gave them. Probably in a way they had never experienced before.
I've seen chickens just lifted by their neck and thrown where ever. So sad.
So happy theyre rescued but there's so many more who die everyday :( is so sad

How wonderful to see these ladies having freedom. It breaks my heart when I see this, mankind has a lot to answer for treating animals this way just for money. We only buy eggs from farms and smallholders where hens are in the fields enjoying life 😊

This is why I rescue and raise my own hens. They live a happy, free-range lifestyle and most of their eggs are given to our neighbors who have financial issues and have kids to feed.

Vlad Dracula It is weird isn't it? Why would you want to eat something that walks? Did you not realise the chicken you eat comes from a walking animal? I guess some people are just so disconnected from what they are actually eating when they buy it all packaged up.
Vera M Animals, however intelligent, are not entitled the exact same rights as humans, so, breeding them for the purpose of food is understandable. I do not condone how vile the conditions are, but for fucks sake these are bred to produce food. not everyone can adhere to a diet that doesnt involve some form of animal. We wouldn't exist as modern humans without killing and eating other beings.

I think it’s amazing how you have saved all these beautiful chickens. You’re showing people what really goes on behind closed doors and how much kindness and love can affect an animal. I also love how you suggest other ways of helping to stop this unkindness without shaming people or making them feel bad for not being able to donate or go vegan. This should be the way everyone shares the message about caring and saving animals instead of shaming or guilting people into it. @A Person Good question there wouldn't be any animals. It's not whither we eat these animals or not, it's how we treat them, and give them a life that is worth living. Even a good commercial chicken should be able to lay eggs to,make it viable to keep for up,to,3 years. Greetings from Northern Ireland.

Now that i have chickens of my own its amazing to see how they have unique personalities like dogs and I will never buy eggs from caged animals again. I love my chickens so much and they love me back.

They recieved no nurture, so it's all nature
Despite our meddling, they have Evolved into wonderful animals
This is such a happy moment. They don't look scared at all.They don't even know what to do with themselves yet.. but they're not cowering or hiding. First taste of freedom ^.^ ....when I rescues my girls, they were almost naked, with long toenails, and they were so scared, all they could do was hide... not so anymore!! Big personalities and loving life, and learning to trust...we've already had some amazing moments together, and they've made so much progress...there really is a whole rehabilitation process for them. At first they don't even know that veggies are edible, or how to perch, or properly stretch... Amazing work you do! Every day I greet my ladies and it brings a tear to my eye thinking where they could be instead. I could only save a couple, though. Sanctuaries save so many lives!
