i just bought a pair of 139 indy's, and i gotta get an 8'' deck. my buddys were giving me shit cus they said its too small for an 8'. Thanks, this video is a relief!
So the 8.38 deck is right in-between the Indy 144 and the 149. If you go with the 144 trucks, they will be 1/8 inch narrower than the deck, and if you go for the 149 then they will be 1/8 wider than the deck. So both will work you'll just have to decide if you would rather have the wheels slightly inset, or slightly sticking out on each side. It won't be very noticeable either way because it will only be 1/16 on each side. I hope that helps! - Tim
I am looking on buying a 8,25 board and i have a old set of 139 independent trucks, would you recommend me buying the 144 trucks instead of skating the old ones?
The 139s will work fine on an 8.25 deck. They're only a 1/4 inch smaller, so they'll be 1/8 inch inside the deck on each side. Unless the OCD kicks in and you need to have them match perfectly, the 139s will work great. Cheers! - Tim
@@h0vthazaman The difference is going to be barely noticeable. The 54's will be fractionally smoother and faster, while the 53's will make your board slightly lighter and more responsive. Also a bigger wheel makes your angle of pop a tiny bit steeper and slower, and a smaller wheel will make your angle of pop slightly less steep for a quicker timing with flip tricks. But since they're only 1mm apart, you probably wont even feel the difference. So long story short, it's just personal preference, so go with your gut. 😄 Cheers! - Tim
It's so annoying that trucks are usually not perfectly the same size. When I started out I bought a 7.75 complete with trucks that were half an inch smaller than the board. Later I wanted to move up to a bigger board and bought a 8.25 complete but this one had trucks that were half an inch bigger than the deck. So now I moved up half an inch in board size but a full inch in truck size and now I feel like I'm carrying lead. Eventhough that might just be in my head and maybe the extra weight doesn't matter but it annoys me a lot.
Will 7.75 trucks fit on a 8.25 im kinda scared i just bought this board and cant return it plz comment. Because all i have is 7.75 trucks and im a kid and cant buy more.
7.75 trucks are going to be really small on an 8.25 deck. Technically you'll still be able to mount it fine and skate it. It's not the ideal pairing, but if it's all you got, then just do what you gotta do to skate! Stay safe out there! - Tim
Hi, thanks for the video. I’m buying a deck and trucks for my son. I’m thinking of getting him a 7.875 deck. The Indy truck that should match that is a 139 (8 inch truck). Wondering what that will look like? Wheels visible from above, in ride position? Or should I go for a smaller truck? Or go an 8 deck so the fit is 👌 Thanks. 👍
The Indy 139 (8.0) trucks will fit well on the 7.875 deck. It'll stick out only 1/16 of an inch on each side so it will be barely noticeable. If you want them to perfectly match, then you'd have to get an 8.0 deck because trucks only really come in 0.25 inch increments. But the 7.875 with 8.0 inch trucks combo will work fine. 👍 - Tim
Hello Tactics Boardshop. I found my old trucks from like 15 years ago helping my grandma move. She apparently had my old indy stage 8 129's and Venture awake featherlight highs. Both 7.625 trucks. I bought a 8 inch board and am waiting for it. Im old school and like narrower boards but I got an 8 inch board to compromise for todays wide board trend im finding out. Is my setup too different to work? Have you heard of people skating 129's on an 8 inch deck? Thank you.
We recommend that the difference between the deck and truck width be within 1/4 inch. A 7.75 deck is right between the Tensor sizes but they're not too far off. The Tensor 5.0 has a 7.5 axle width, so it will be a 1/4 inch narrow, and the Tensor 5.25 has an 8.0 axle width which is a 1/4 inch wider. So you could actually go either way with it. You could get the Tensor 5.0 or the 5.25 and both would still work. At that point it's just about preference, would you rather have trucks that are inset a little bit or trucks that stick out a little bit (It'll barely be noticeable because it's only 1/8 (0.125) of an inch on each side). Cheers! - Tim
Doesnt a lower truck height pull the hanger higher from your targets??i know its only millimeters but is it better to ride lower or have a lower hanger?
So I usually ride an 8.25 with 144 indys but my homie got me an 8.45 deck, I think they should work fine, there only a tad bit smaller, but your word would really help. Thanks!
Any truck that's width is within a 1/4 inch of the 7.75 deck will work fine. Not many truck companies make trucks that are exactly 7.75, so look for a truck that rangings from 7.5 - 8.0. That includes: Any Independent 129 or 139, Any Thunder 145 or 147, Any Venture 5.0 or 5.2, Any Krux 7.6 or 8.0 axle, Any Royal 5.0 or 5.25, Any Tensor 5.0 or 5.25, Any Ace 22Hi or 33Hi, and so on and so forth... I hope that helps! - Tim
If you're getting an 8.4 deck, then you should get 8.5 trucks. If you check out the top pinned comment, there's a table with all the top brands/sizes and it'll show you what you can get. Also, here's a link to our site, filtered down to only 8.5 axle trucks. Cheers! - Tim www.tactics.com/trucks/rs-8.5+axle
hey im new to skate boarding and im thinking of riding a 7.5 board but i was wondering what size trucks to get. will 7.25 tensor trucks fit a 7.5 board
Yeah, that's fine. You technically skate any size board with any size trucks, it's just that if the difference gets to be too much, the pop and flick on your board will feel odd and certain tricks will be harder. With 8" trucks on an 8.25 deck, you'll hardly feel the difference. 👍 - Tim
So I wanna switch down from an 8.5 to an 8.25 and have a pair of 149 thunders. Can I use them on an 8.25 or would I have to get a pair of 148 thunders?
Is it a bad idea to skate an 8.25 deck with 8.5” trucks? I asked one of the local guys online and he said he gets his trucks wider than the board by about .25”. What does that help with?
It's fine having trucks that are a 1/4" bigger. Having a slightly wider truck will give you a tiny bit of extra room to lock into grinds, and they're slightly more stable. The difference is going to be slight, but noticeable. You might run the risk of kicking the wheel when you push, but that wont happen very often. Cheers! - Tim
I have a size 8 board now i Wanna Change the size of my board a little up can I still keep the same trucks. And what size board can I use for trucks that fit an 8 board?
If you have 8 inch wide trucks, and you want to up-size your deck while keeping the same trucks, don't go bigger than an 8.25. You "technically" can skate any size board with any size trucks, but if the trucks are way skinnier than the deck, all your tricks will pop and flick weird and you'll get wheel bite 10x easier. So just remember that the rule of thumb is, to try to keep the difference between the width of your trucks and the width of your deck less than 1/4 of an inch. Hope that helps! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop thank you so much I have been looking for the answer of that question a while but I couldn't find a video that helped me but you did. Once again thanks
You can still mount them, they'll just stick out a little bit on each side. It's not ideal, but as long as it doesn't bother you you could just run it. 👍 - Tim
The Independent 215 trucks will fit, as well as the ACE AF-1 80 trucks. Here's a link to a few 10.0 inch axle widths you can check out. I hope that helps! - Tim www.tactics.com/skateboard-trucks/rs-10.0+axle
i bought a 8.25 deck, and i don’t know what trucks to buy with it. 147 trucks would be ( 7.9 - 8.2 ) , and 149 trucks would be ( 8.2 - 8.4 ). which do you recommend. like is one gonna make riding more smooth or something
It's not gonna make much difference if you go slightly bigger or smaller but there are trucks that have exactly an 8.25 axle. They would be the the Indy 144, Thunder 148, and the Krux 8.25. Other brands will have sizes that are close enough. If you check out the pinned comment on top there's a table with all the different truck brand's sizes and their corresponding deck widths. I saw someone once on yt ( a pro guy don’t remember his name ) but he said he always gets one size up trucks because to him it seems that the size chart isn’t actually accurate? so for example if I have an 8” deck do I need to get 144 indys? because if you think about it, it’s only a few mm difference and it’s not gonna hang out , this guy also said when you stand on your board you need to be able to see the bolts of your wheels and the edge of your wheels when you try to move left or right ( that if you use loose trucks ) I thought that was interesting
Yo. I’ve got a 7.75 complete and the trucks are 7.75. I’m looking to get a 8.0 board. Do you think I should get new trucks or continue with my 7.75 trucks on a 8 board. Thanks it would mean a lot of you could reply
Yep, they'll still work. We recommend keeping the difference no more than 1/4 inch, so if you decide to get anything bigger than an 8.0 then you'd want some bigger trucks. Cheers! - Tim
The best size Indys for an 8.25 would be the 144's. The 159's would be 1/2 inch too big, which may not seem like much, but it would be quite noticeably too big. Cheers! - Tim
If you check out the top pinned comment, there's a table with all of the top truck brands and sizes along with their corresponding deck widths. Cheers! - Tim
Yeah, that should work. It's better to have the trucks match the width of the narrowest spot instead of the widest spot so the wheels don't stick out a whole bunch. Indy 149's will fit the 8.5 section perfectly. Just wax the wheelbite spot on the wider part because since the board is a bit wider, you'll have more leverage for turning, so it'll make getting wheelbite a tad easier too. Cheers! - Tim
If you check out the top pinned comment, there's a table of all the top brands/sizes with their corresponding deck widths. Also, you can go to our site and filter by size and it'll show you only trucks with 8.5 inch axles. 👍 - Tim www.tactics.com/trucks/rs-8.5+axle
How wide is the uncut deck? They're usually around 10 - 11 inches, so you would probably have to get the Indy 215 trucks, or some standard kingpin longboard trucks for it. 👍 - Tim
Truck brands all do their sizing differently, and sometimes it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The numbers are roughly referencing the width of the hanger and not the axle width. The Thunder 145 actually has a 7.6 inch axle, and the 147 is their 8.0 axle, but the 147 actually has a 137mm hanger. 🤷♂️ The Indy 139 which has an 8.0 inch axle is closer to the actual hanger mm, but it also has a 137mm hanger. Its all a bit convoluted, so we tried to make it easy by simply stating the axle width on every truck on our site so you can just focus on that. 😅 - Tim

You guys are the sh|T !!!! Edit: if you guys grab another size run of them and happen to have a size 12 in he black/red lmk please Tim and I’ll grab a tactics deck along with them.
Howdy! I’m building a cruiser deck, it’s 9” and I’ll be riding 60mm Super Juice wheels. What size trucks would be best? If I go w trucks for a standard 9” would the wheels stick out? Thank you in advance for any info as I’m totally lost rn!!
You'll be good with 9" trucks. I have the super juices on my cruiser/filmer board right now and they don't stick out. - Cheers!👍www.tactics.com/skateboard-trucks/rs-9.0+axle
Technically they will work, but the 149s have an 8.5 axle width so the wheels are going to stick out on either side of the deck a noticeable amount. If you have a choice, go with the 139 Indys because those have an 8.0 axle width. But if you already have the 149s then you can go ahead and rock them, but it's not ideal. Just make sure you don't kick the wheels with the back of your heel when you're pushing. Cheers! - Tim

Do you mean 8.0 Krux? Krux doesn't do the hanger mm measurements like Indy or Thunder. They just list the axle width in inches, which honestly makes way more sense. But if that truck is the same size as an Indy 139, then yes, it should fit an 8.25 deck. I'll be about a 1/4 inch narrower (1/8 on each side), but that's within the recommended range. I hope that helps! - Tim
I'm looking into buying my first skateboard at a 8.125 deck, what's the ideal independent trucks I should be looking into as I'm not sure weather I would move up or down
That's a good question. Indy's 139s are 8" axles, and the 144's have 8.25" axles. Most skaters tend to move up in deck size the longer they skate. What size shoe do you wear? That might be an indicator as to what direction you might end up going. - Tim
@@FatbizzleGamePlay I wear the same size shoe as you and skate 8.25 decks. It'd be a safe bet to get the 144 (8.25) Independents. It's not going to make a huge difference anyway. Even if you had the 8.25" axles and went down to an 8.0 deck, the axles would only stick out 1/8 of an inch on each side which would barely be noticeable. I hope that helps! Cheers! - Tim

Since you're saying 148, I assume you're talking about Thunder 148 trucks. The have an 8.25" axle, so they might be a little too big. With an 8.0 deck, you'll want the Thunder 147 trucks or any other truck that has an 8.0" axle. Cheers! - Tim
I have a 9.6 old school shaped caballero deck and I’m not sure what trucks to get because the deck is sort of thin where the trucks would be and want to try out aces
Yeah, that's the classic conundrum with tapered boards! I'd say get the size of trucks that match the width of the narrower end. The front end will be a little wider than the trucks, but at least you won't accidently kick the back wheel when pushing because it's sticking out. 👍 - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop thanks! I measured it to about 8 inches and I have some old 8 inch thunders but realized they might not fit the baseplate 😭 I think some powells use the old school bolt pattern

@@tacticsboardshop haha rip, the 159s might be a little big, I should’ve thought about this before buying the deck, it’s so sweet though, my thunders don’t fit it they only have the modern bolt pattern and I was excited to try aces 😤
It's best to have trucks that match the width of your deck, but if it's not perfectly matched that's okay. Just keep the difference between the deck and the trucks under 0.25 (1/4) inch or it will start to feel and skate differently. I hope that answered your question!. - Tim
Hello, I need some help please. I buy a a 8.25 but my trucks are Venture 5.2 so for 7.875 to 8.125.. Is it ok ? Thanks (sorry for the mistakes, i'm french)
Your Venture 5.2 trucks will work fine on an 8.25 deck. The Venture 5.2 has an 8.0" (20.32 cm) axle which is only 0.25" (6.35 mm) smaller than the 8.25 deck, so the deck will only stick out 0.125" (3.175 mm) on each side of the wheels. I hope that wasn't too confusing! Au revoir! - Tim
Technically you can mount the trucks fine and skate them, but they are outside the recommended range and are going to be awkwardly small on that board. But if that doesn't bother you then by all means go ahead and skate them. 👍🛹
I put 139 Independent trucks on my krooked 8.25 deck, my trucks plate is completely level inside but the front and back of my board I have a slight gap. Trucks are tightened fine. Is this normal? I have venturs on one of my boards and the plates of my trucks are completely level.
It just has to do with the shape of the deck. Some decks have more dramatic concave and nose/tails that curve up closer to the hardware. There's nothing wrong with your trucks or board, it all just the shape of the deck. 👍 Cheers! - Tim
Hey, i wanna get a cruiser i already have a 10 inch powell peralta ripper deck and oj 60mm super juice wheels, i think independent 215 are to wide. Do you think a independent 169 whould fit?
The Indy 215's have a 10" axle and should fit that Powell Ripper board perfectly. The Indy 169's have a 9.125" axle so they're going to be quite a bit narrower than the deck. I hope that helps! 👍🛹 - Tim
They're gonna be a little small for an 8.0. You can technically mount them and skate them fine, but they're not going to perform the same as a board with a closer deck/truck size. Of course it's all just personal preference, so if you do it and you like how it skates, then more power to ya! 🤜🤛 - Tim
Nope, both trucks are the same. Some people like to adjust the trucks slightly differently, such as having the front truck be slightly looser than the back truck to make turning easier or vice versa. But I think a lot of skaters like having the front and back trucks with equal tightness. Cheers! - Tim

Hey, sorry to bother but if I have an 8.38, should 144 independent fit fine? Or 149 should fit better?
So the 8.38 deck is right in-between the Indy 144 and the 149. Will independent size 139 fit good on a 8.25 deck ?
It's so annoying that trucks are usually not perfectly the same size. When I started out I bought a 7.75 complete with trucks that were half an inch smaller than the board. Later I wanted to move up to a bigger board and bought a 8.25 complete but this one had trucks that were half an inch bigger than the deck. So now I moved up half an inch in board size but a full inch in truck size and now I feel like I'm carrying lead. Eventhough that might just be in my head and maybe the extra weight doesn't matter but it annoys me a lot.
I wanted to ask what turns better indis or ace trucks and also what is better for bowl skating
I'm gunna straight upgrade this stuff... a lot of people grow up skating the same stuff and get to tall and break an ankle and quit.. time to upgrade
Big question, do 8.475 and 8.5 use the same size right?
Yep! You'd use the same size trucks. 👍
- Tim

I just bought a 8.5 skateboard and a 147 thunder truck online and now idk if they gonna go well together 😥😥
So didi they get well?
@@manupraia9963 I have a8.0 and I think mys are 147 and they look so small and his skateboard probably looks like a Door on those trucks
👍 - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop Cool, thank u.
Cheers! Nice vid..
Question: If I ride a 8.25 with Thunder 147 that happens all the time, will a 148 make much a different?
I ride a 8.125 deck with Thunder 148 and love it - prefer wider axels as it's more stable for grinds.
will an 8.25 axel fit on my 8.5 deck or will it be too big
Yep, those trucks will fit. The deck will be 1/8 of an inch wider on each side but it'll be hardly noticeable. 👍 - Tim
Are you guys going to get the venture 5.6’s in?
Hello Tactics Boardshop. I found my old trucks from like 15 years ago helping my grandma move. She apparently had my old indy stage 8 129's and Venture awake featherlight highs. Both 7.625 trucks. I bought a 8 inch board and am waiting for it. Im old school and like narrower boards but I got an 8 inch board to compromise for todays wide board trend im finding out. Is my setup too different to work? Have you heard of people skating 129's on an 8 inch deck? Thank you.
That would work fine
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Opinion on Tensor 5" for a 7.75 deck? They are narrow, but are they too narrow?
Thanks!
Yeah, you should be fine to rock the same trucks. 👍
I'm thinking of getting my 6 year old son a 7.25 deck. What size trucks will I need for it?
What trucks fit a 7.75 deck?
Any truck that's width is within a 1/4 inch of the 7.75 deck will work fine. Not many truck companies make trucks that are exactly 7.75, so look for a truck that rangings from 7.5 - 8.0. That includes:
Any Independent 129 or 139,
Any Thunder 145 or 147,
Any Venture 5.0 or 5.2,
Any Krux 7.6 or 8.0 axle,
Any Royal 5.0 or 5.25,
Any Tensor 5.0 or 5.25,
Any Ace 22Hi or 33Hi,
and so on and so forth... I hope that helps! - Tim

Yep, those will work fin for a 7.5 deck. 👍
Would I be good to ride a 8.25 deck with 8” trucks? You said no bigger then 1/4 inch but what if it’s 1/4?
Yeah, that's fine. You technically skate any size board with any size trucks, it's just that if the difference gets to be too much, the pop and flick on your board will feel odd and certain tricks will be harder. With 8" trucks on an 8.25 deck, you'll hardly feel the difference. 👍 - Tim

I have a 20 centimeter wide skateboard, what size of truck i need to buy??
8.125 deck thunder hollow lights 148mm could it be ok

What inch trucks fit into 20cm wide deck?
I’m about to start riding a 8.125 what size trucks would be the best?
i bought a 8.25 deck, and i don’t know what trucks to buy with it. 147 trucks would be ( 7.9 - 8.2 ) , and 149 trucks would be ( 8.2 - 8.4 ). which do you recommend. like is one gonna make riding more smooth or something
or do i go smaller?
It's not gonna make much difference if you go slightly bigger or smaller but there are trucks that have exactly an 8.25 axle. They would be the the Indy 144, Thunder 148, and the Krux 8.25. Other brands will have sizes that are close enough. If you check out the pinned comment on top there's a table with all the different truck brand's sizes and their corresponding deck widths. Can you drill holes in your older board to match the newer standard size trucks?
You definitely can!

How about shaped board? The widest point is 9.75 but 8.5 at the truck zone 149 works?
Yeah, that should work. It's better to have the trucks match the width of the narrowest spot instead of the widest spot so the wheels don't stick out a whole bunch. Indy 149's will fit the 8.5 section perfectly. Just wax the wheelbite spot on the wider part because since the board is a bit wider, you'll have more leverage for turning, so it'll make getting wheelbite a tad easier too. Cheers! - Tim

Is it okay to skate a narrow truck?
Hey im trying to build an uncut deck setup which trucks would be best for that ?
How wide is the uncut deck? They're usually around 10 - 11 inches, so you would probably have to get the Indy 215 trucks, or some standard kingpin longboard trucks for it. 👍 - Tim
I dont understand why Thunder have 145mm and independent 139mm but the same 8" axel? Won't that differ how the wheels end's up?
😅 - Tim

👍🛹 - Tim
I have a 8.125 deck can I use thunder 147 trucks
Yep, those will work perfectly! 👌
Size kurx trucks can I put 7.6 on my 8.0 skateboard deck
They're gonna be a little small for an 8.0. You can technically mount them and skate them fine, but they're not going to perform the same as a board with a closer deck/truck size. Of course it's all just personal preference, so if you do it and you like how it skates, then more power to ya! 🤜🤛 - Tim
is there a difference between back and front trucks? new skater here and im just curious
Nope, both trucks are the same. Some people like to adjust the trucks slightly differently, such as having the front truck be slightly looser than the back truck to make turning easier or vice versa. But I think a lot of skaters like having the front and back trucks with equal tightness. Cheers! - Tim
What ccs or bullet size trucks should I get for my 8” board
If you check out the Pinned comment at the top, there's a table with all of the truck/board sizes compatibility. For Bullet Trucks, you'll want the 140mm. Cheers! - Tim
