Big tip on squeaky trucks, it's 90% the pivot of your trucks and your pivot cup. Just last night I decided to fix the squeaky trucks using chapstick. First I just applied it to the pivot and the pivot cup and that eliminated most of the squeak, but once I gave some to everywhere else, it's basically gone.
This is a very short term fix, in my experience this will just hold on to dirt and stuff and pretty much be gone within a a day or two in my experience. Some wax will last longer (I think I have had it last about a week). But hey maybe that doesn't match your experience.
i want you all to know this is normal. ive been through maybe 6-7 boards with the same trucks. trucks usually last years on years. as long as they're indies tho lmao
Dawn works great in pivot cups of squeaky trucks. just put a drop on your finger a shove you finger in the pivot cup and rub it around a bit. I did it a month ago on my aces and they are smoother and quieter than ever!
I feel like this is for sure one of the parts of the board you can go the most lax on, especially if you mainly just do fliptricks, but its still really important to keep them in check.
1:08 yeah i had some decade old team chris cole thunders i got from a friend because i needed some 145s and he doesn't use em anymore, and i put those hangers on my hollow lights 147s baseplate. also one time i had to put indy stage 10 hangers on a tensor mag baseplate, had to put taller bottom bushing shorter top bushing but oddly it fit perfectly.
Grand video! found a discarded broken skateboard in the bushes across the road from my house and it was just really the deck (broken in half) that needed replaced but had some squeaks when i rode it. Figured out from this video one of the pivot cups was split! Easy fix and I literally have a brand new skateboard for (almost) free :)
The only reason I got new trucks is because I didn’t realize my first ones were too small, so I got new ones that actually fit my board correctly. Other than that, I have had the same ones
It's be great to see what "Frankentruck" combinations work and which don't. I've got spare Thunder 7.75" hangars lying around, and a pair of 8" Tensors that I'd be interested in combining to be able to skate a skinnier deck, and I'd be interested in seeing how they'd turn compared to stock.
I don't think I have a big enough pile of old trucks to try all of the combinations! I'm sure most would fit together, but the turning might feel wonky if the angle of the pivot doesn't match the angle of the pivot cup. If you give it a try let us know how well it worked! Cheers! - Tim
I use a very small amount of lithium grease in my pivot cups. I keep a solution of fragrance/dye free bar soap dissolved in water in a eye dropper type bottle with my board at all times (kept adding water a little at a time until the soap fully dissolved). Lots of dust in the desert, soapy water dries up and flakes out, all the dirt and dust falls away eliminating squeaking and prolonging component life. I soap daily, sometimes twice, only takes a single drop for bushings and for pivot cup. I clean pivot cups with q-tips and reapply lithium grease about once a month. The tip nobody mentions is: Your bearings will not insert and stay flush within the wheel hub while dry. Grease up your wheel hub before inserting your bearings (combined with spacers this is the best tip for speed). Longboarders have the best skate advice when it comes to maintenance considering they rarely have sponsorship and actually care about top end performance. Board stompers are talented with tricks, however seem to be dogmatic and proud of ignorance, two less then respectable qualities I think. I ride pools and bomb hills with 9" ace af1 trucks and a 15.25" wheel base. Via custom bushing (all four are different durometers) my setup will carve on a dime and hill bomb without speed wobbles. Everyone who steps on my board loves it, even the tight truck types acknowledge the balance of responsiveness and stability. Look to long distance pump, slalom and downhill skateboarders for the best advice on bushings, bearings and maintenance tips.
ha I typed this up two days ago hoping to see one of ur videos, and then this got recommended to me today. thx! btw I've been skating mine for about a year
Ahaha Frankenstein Trucks, when I was a kid I use to have the bottom part thunders and the grind part were some royals that a friend gave me. Now I just have indies reg.
If you have a hard time with your trucks not turning good when you first get them no matter how much you loosen them then wax your brand new bushings. The wax keeps your bushings slippery against the washers and hanger and temporarily makes your bushings feel broken in until they actually fully break in.
I thought of an idea that could help stop base plate holes from getting bigger. Have a 45 degree or similar tapered nut and have the same taper in the base plate holes. This could possibly make the base plates last longer. Vehicle's have this design in the wheels. But the only thing is that you would have to have the right nut with the base plate other ways it will not work well and I know many skateboarders would not be happy about the compatibility issues this would cause.
I still have the trucks that came with my complete, at this point I’ve switched out basically everything except the trucks. I want new ones because these ones have no clearance, so now that I’m trying to learn to grind I’m grinding straight onto the kingpin nut (I don’t know if that’s what it’s called). But I can’t afford new trucks rn so I’ll have to wait.
I already had a skate tool and didn’t want to go get a new one with a rethreader cause my nuts wouldn’t go back on so I went to ace hardware got a 5/16 24 count rethreader and rethreader holder and some 5/16 24 count locking nuts

Hey Tactics, I own a truck size for a 7.75 and I’m considering moving up a deck size to an 8. Will there be any differences? Let me know what you guys think
The 7.75 trucks will definitely work on an 8.0 deck. Some tricks will feel a little different because the pressure points will be in a different spot, but it'll only take you about one session to get used to it and you won't even notice it anymore. 👍 Cheers! - Tim
I often pair up 7.75 trucks on 8.00 decks with different wheel combos, you'll most likely never notice the difference. It is less than 1/8" split variance per side when mounted per side.
@@alonsoundesign Since Bullet is more of a price point brand, their not going to be as strong as the major brands like Independent, Thunder, Ace, etc. But they are a decent truck that will serve you well as long as you're not skating in extreme situations. 👍 Cheers! - Tim
Hey. I got an old board and trying to restore it. I realise that the nipple sitting in the pivot cup is worn out by 30%. The diameter is not only smaller, it is not round anymore. Is this even possible when there is a rubber pivot cup in place?
How to fix the broken baseplate, but my baseplate isn't too broke, just a lot of pieces near the pivot area, and that's very disturbing to take control the board,
i have a brand new skateboard but idk why my sk8board is always turn right . i always mess up by dis problems . i take of my trucks and everything is normal , pls give me tip how to fix it without buying anything😔😔
If the board is brand new, bushings have a tendency to get stuck until they are broken in. Most likely the issue will resolve itself as you skate the board more. If it doesn't however, you could try rotating your bushings 90 degrees so that the sides that compresses the most are facing the outsides. I hope that helps! - Tim
If people haven't tried Havoc trucks, I'd recommend them, affordable, light weight, can buy several pairs for under 100.00, slick and great for grinds or 50/50. Might also want to skate Bullet trucks.
I’m trying to get my truck top part with the axel off the baseplate but the kingpin nut is kind of inside the top busing and I can’t take the top part off because it’s stuck in the bushing it happened because I took the protecter cap off and now the nut won’t come off
You're going to need to use a different tool to loosen that sucker. Try using a visegrip to get a solid hold of the kingpin nut. Worst case scenario is you'll have to cut off pieces of your top bushing so you can get to the nut and then just replace the top bushing. I hope that helps! - Tim
Why is it so hard to find replace baseplates for independent trucks? My hardware holes are stretched out too much. Also, I feel like you should have gone over how to prevent this because it can be pretty annoying when your skateboard keeps turning by itself due to this problem.
Tighten your hardware every session this is the determining factor for me and my thunders which are very prone to baseplate stretching prior to me tightening them and checking them all the time I got about a year before they got stretched. I’m current on my second + year on standard thunders and they are only still pretty good. I even had to buy the thunder rebuild kit to get new bushing which is a first for me, I usually just ride trucks till they are stretched and then move on one loose hardware actually makes a difference I dunno how kids purposely and willingly skate with 3 bolts I just retighten every nutt every session and if I’m doing a lot of tailslides or noseslides I’ll even check the mid session sometimes
My trucks pop when I lean, and I tried just Greasing them up I little bit and loosening the king pen a bit and it didn’t work. Do you have any tips on how to fix that?
A couple decent budget truck brands are: Tensor, MiniLogo, and Bullet trucks. Here's a link to some trucks under $35. I hope you find something you like. Cheers! - Tim www.tactics.com/trucks/rp-0-35
Pivot cups hold the pivot in place and prevent it from wiggling around and chattering against your baseplate. It's important to have a functioning pivot cup if you don't want floppy unstable trucks. Usually pivot cups are made of hard urethane, just like your bushings. I've never seen foam pivot cups.🤔 If your pivot cup rips in half and is negatively affecting your skating, then you should replace it. Cheers! - Tim
Does it matter if u have bad skateboard hardware cuz when I first brought my skateboard I decided to use wallmart skateboard hardware so I can save some money and my skateboard is really bad wheels are really slow and skateboard is uneven so m tryna figure the problem
Do I need new wheels? For some of em the bearings just slip right out. You don’t have to pry em with the trucks. They just fall out. I don’t think that’s normal. Help pls
Are the wheels super old? There's not much you can do for a wheel if the bearing slot is all stretched out. 😕As long as it doesn't affect your skating and rides fine, you should be able to just skate the wheels anyway. But if they're causing your bearings to bust or make your wheels to fall off, then you should probably get some new wheels. Stay safe out there! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop alright thanks for your help :) the wheels aren’t super old. It’s my first board and I bought a complete. The bearings that were included were really hard to pry out. Really really hard. And when I was prying em out, I dented the metal bearing shields and they don’t spin anymore. I replaced the bearings to reds. Most of the reds go in and out of the wheel like normal wheels but I think 2 of them just slip out. I can still ride it it’s just really really bumpy. Skating rough pavement is a big no for me cuz it feels like an earthquake in my legs.
You don't necessarily need them, but they definitely help keep you speed a little better. If you're wanting some, you could go to your local skate shop and they'll probably just give you some for free. Or ask other skaters if they have any extra ones in a box of old parts. Or in the worst case scenario, you could just get some small thin washers from a hardware store. I hope you can track some down! - Tim
Well, you only need one truck, but most of the time trucks are sold in pairs. You might need to do a little research to find a place that sells just one truck.
Trucks are identical when they are new, so if you want to be able to differentiate between them, you can put a mark on them or something like that. I usually just know which truck is my front/back from the grind marks on them. Often I'll have a pretty defined groove from doing crooked grinds, so I can always tell which one is the front. But if they're new, then it doesn't matter which one you put on the front/back. Cheers! - Tim
I mean, new trucks are great once you break them in, just like new shoes. It's never a bad idea to get some new gear, especially if you're switching board sizes and your trucks are way too small/big for your new deck. Just keep your old ones as a back up or for spare parts. If I ever got new stuff but my old stuff was still in good shape, I'd hook up a friend or a kid who needed it really badly just to stoke them out and keep them skating. Cheers! - Tim
It depends on how tight your trucks are. If you have pretty tight trucks, then you could probably get away with not using risers with 56mm wheels. But if you ride loose trucks, then you should definitely use some risers to save you from getting wheelbite so much. Cheers! - Tim
Hi, i have a problem with my axel, the part circular which holds the kingpin broke, and now i am wondering if i should replace it, or i can still skate with it?
@@tacticsboardshop Sorry for the late reply, the bushing and kingpin were still being held by the remaining of the circular part, and I was able to skate a little longer with it, but in the end I learned to drop on a curb, which was around 50 cm high, and the rest of the circular part broke, and when tried to push myself, the skate would turn on the right side because most of the circular part was gone, and the kingpin slipped out. So I bought new trucks.
I have a problem with my skateboard and it’s probably because I built it and the problem is that on one truck one wheel touches the ground and the other one doesn’t and the same thing with my other truck and it’s not the bushings because their brand new so idk what to do if u have the answer pls let me know 😢
Have you checked to see if the deck is warped? Sometimes skateboard decks aren't perfectly straight and kind of twist very slightly and can make your board wobble like a stool with uneven legs. Look down the deck lengthwise and try to see if the deck slightly corkscrews. If it's slightly warped it wont affect your skating too much, but if it's really warped, it'll make everything feel a little off. If it's warped you should be able to return or exchange it because it's defective. Take care! - Tim

My trucks pop when I lean, and I tried just Greasing them up I little bit and loosening the king pen a bit and it didn’t work. Do you have any tips on how to fix that?
What do you mean they pop when you lean? Is it just a sound, or is there a physical jolting flop? - Tim
what cheap trucks would u recommend? im a little bit on a budget 😂
A couple decent budget truck brands are: Tensor, MiniLogo, and Bullet trucks. Here's a link to some trucks under $35. I hope you find something you like. Cheers! - Tim www.tactics.com/trucks/rp-0-35
What is the reason for pivot cups? Are they supposed to feel like foam like mine? What happens when the pivot cups rip in half?
Pivot cups hold the pivot in place and prevent it from wiggling around and chattering against your baseplate. It's important to have a functioning pivot cup if you don't want floppy unstable trucks. Usually pivot cups are made of hard urethane, just like your bushings. I've never seen foam pivot cups.🤔 If your pivot cup rips in half and is negatively affecting your skating, then you should replace it. Cheers! - Tim
Tactics Boardshop thx but I might have to get new trucks because my trucks are non- brand ones from Amazon.
Thanks bro
@@thelambsaucee are the nuts on the axle quite loose??
Hey I was wondering what I should do if I lose my speed washers for my bearings?
You don't necessarily need them, but they definitely help keep you speed a little better. If you're wanting some, you could go to your local skate shop and they'll probably just give you some for free. Or ask other skaters if they have any extra ones in a box of old parts. Or in the worst case scenario, you could just get some small thin washers from a hardware store. I hope you can track some down! - Tim
145 thunder trucks do they it into 8 25?
One of my trucks broke I have indys should I buy one truck or two trucks again?
The metal thing that goes into he pivot cup broke while I was doing flatground should I get 1 or two trucks
Well, you only need one truck, but most of the time trucks are sold in pairs. You might need to do a little research to find a place that sells just one truck.
get new trucks when it snaps, bends, or when the part of the truck that holds the wheels breaks
Ive heard if theyre squeaky you can put wax in the pivot cup, does that help at all?
Yep, that works too!
Thank you sir
There's a crack in my baseplate, I can't find any sushi baseplates, should I just super glue it back together
How big is the crack?
I just got brand new trucks how I know the front and the back? Is there a difrence
Cheers! - Tim
@@tacticsboardshop aight thanks dude
Is buying new trucks even though yours are still pretty good a bad idea?
I mean, new trucks are great once you break them in, just like new shoes. It's never a bad idea to get some new gear, especially if you're switching board sizes and your trucks are way too small/big for your new deck. Just keep your old ones as a back up or for spare parts. If I ever got new stuff but my old stuff was still in good shape, I'd hook up a friend or a kid who needed it really badly just to stoke them out and keep them skating. Cheers! - Tim
If I have a 56 mm wheel? Do you think I would really need risers? Could I ride it without getting too much wheelbite?
It depends on how tight your trucks are. If you have pretty tight trucks, then you could probably get away with not using risers with 56mm wheels. But if you ride loose trucks, then you should definitely use some risers to save you from getting wheelbite so much. Cheers! - Tim
Hi, i have a problem with my axel, the part circular which holds the kingpin broke, and now i am wondering if i should replace it, or i can still skate with it?
How broken is it? Are the bushings and the kingpin about to slip out of it at any moment, or is there just a small crack on it? - Tim
0:52 bro pulled a George Poulos
Take care! - Tim
skating my pair of trucks 4 2 years now lol
Interesting stuff!
Nice vid
If you have 7.87 board and you are buying the 8 board do you have to replace your trucks? Help please
The trucks that are on your 7.87 decks will fit fine on the 8.0 deck. 👍
@@tacticsboardshop thank you 😁
