Was an Indy fanboy for YEARS until I tried thunders on a board that had lost its pop and they basically revitalized the deck for another 2 weeks. They don't have the same heft as indys, but I find them more reliable for a boards longevity (i.e. no ghost pop). I still have like 5 sets of indys but these thunders have been going strong for a year now and I haven't felt like returning anytime soon.
I'm at the point now where I really can't definitively say if I prefer Indys or Thunders... they're both great trucks so you honestly can't go wrong with either
Ben I want you to know you got me back in again. Today I took no less than 5 good slams doing tricks I would usually never fall on in the past but I don't regret it. But I do tricks easier on krux trucks especially manuals and grinds, but I had to swap out the pivot cups so they could turn better and I had to remove like 3mm from the kingpin so I could tighten it more coz it hits the board when I tighten it. INDY and KRUX!

I used to ride the Thunder hollow lights because I thought id get more pop from light trucks then I saw an old video of yours talking about how you liked the indy standard pop feel and been riding them ever since and its helped me improve my pop along with grinds.
My favorite trucks are the Indy 149 standards. I gotta say the turn and pop feel is out of this world. The weight does not matter to me based on the geometry.
Ive started with 144 hollows, and it was the best for a long time. Then my gear madness pushed me to try thunder hollow 147, never liked, you have to choose no turn or wheelbite. I even bent them learning flatground ollie (im 150lbs). After ive tried 149 hollow and ace 44. Both are cool, ace are heavy (i dont like this) but turn was amazing initially. Bushings stiffened after initial brake in, and they became another indy. I hope they will be soft again. Indy 149 are great, its like more stable 144. Ive even tried 149 titanium, but felt no difference with hollow (but checked 20g weight diff on scales). All above from the beginner viewpoint. I’ve landed kickflip once )
kinda doesn't matter at beginner level.. you can honestly skate anything but if it gives you confidence, by all means. save your $ keep a consistent setup if you like but focus more on technique & form: jumping on top of board, lifting back feet up after you snap, & a good ollie....and getting hurt.
At your current level of skating, differences in gear don’t matter much. But I will say, it’s unlikely that an axle would bend from a flat ground ollie. I weigh more than you and regularly skate gaps (with thunders) around 5 ft high or taller with no issues. In fact I’ve never bent an axle from any brand come to think of it. If this was caused by a manufacturer defect, DLX customer service and warranty is excellent. They stand firmly behind their product.
my first trucks were INDY’S in like in 1989. I rode INDY’S for years...decades. But now I’m riding THUNDER HOLLOW LIGHTS with clear blue bushings. It took a little to get used to then cuz their lower. I love my THUNDER HOLLOW LIGHTS.
@@InfinityGamerHDx too risky right now I'd say. Madrid and Spain is getting infected again, and you are forced to wear a mask at any place. Maybe you get lucky though
I’ve always skated Independent trucks. I don’t know any different. I’ve always skated them. When they released the stage 11/hollow trucks that eliminate speed wobble I became a customer for life.
Same here bro I love the indy 144s. Just bought some Ventures to try. I've always skated independent 139s stage 8s when I was in my teens through in to 20s
I rode indys for a long time. Had skated thunders when I was younger a couple times. But I recently got some thunder lights and I have to say I like them a lot better. So much lighter. I’ve only been skating them for 2 days and they feel broken in pretty much. I ride medium loose. They grind good too
I tried so many times to ride thunders. I have owned Indy 149 hollows as well in addition to bullet trucks. All I can say is I ALWAYS go back to Indy 144 standards. I like how they are roomy for stability when grinding and hillbombing and skating ramps...but they don't really get any significant wheel bite (at least for me) because you can have them fairly tight and they still turn well because indys have a nice gentle carve to them. They manual nicely for me. My manuals are definitely better with Indys than thunders. At the same time, although I can do some tricks better on thunders, I don't do ALL of my tricks better on thunders and when I start skating thunders I run into wheel bite problems. So Indys are more consistent overall which to me is the most important.
Ace is my favorite truck. I love the way they turn and how responsive they feel. They grind really nice too and they are by far the best looking truck imo
I love Ace and Indys. It depends on the deck and wheelbase for me. I know some will say well the Aces are technically indy because they are stage IIIs but the name on those trucks is ACE not Independent Truck Co. Both have been the absolute best trucks that I've skated hands down. I will change decks and wheels before I change out trucks when trying different setups (Not because I'm cheap) because I just love the way they feel, the position of the hanger, the way they grind and carve. They are literally perfect for what I like to feel when I skate. I have 3 setups. I don't necessarily ride just one. Sometimes I skate something for a month, wake up one day and just want to go to something new. I have a small setup of 8.0(Couldn't find 7.75 at the time, which is what I really wanted), it didn't feel good with ACE 33s so I went to Indy 139s. My "vert" or my 80s throwback setups are both ACE because they turned and carved better with the larger wheelbase and position of the axles.
I have skated a couple years but only have a couple pairs of independents. They last me long because I don't do tricks yet and was just using my board to commute to and from work. Saying my favorite is pointless since I've only tried independent, but research tells me they are the best at turning and the best for transition, and that definitely matches what I'm most interested in, so kind of hard to justify spending money on more trucks of other brands when I probably already found what's best for my priorities.
I’m thinking about trying Grind King again. I haven’t had a pair since the 90’s. They grinded down so quick but I liked how they performed over all. Indy’s were too heavy fr
Going to have to try them. I've been on 149s for the past ~5 years, but I want to slim down my setup (board and trucks). I know a couple guys that were stoked on 144s when they came out.
I still have my tensors circa early 2000s with the slide piece between the wheels , I loved tensors , just picked up skating again at 35 , I picked up krux , I never liked ventures or thunder when I use to ride them off friends boards back in the day , indys are good but tanky heavy
YOU KNOW ALL THE SLOGANS TO THE BEST TRUCKS! Been riding them for at least 30 of the 33 years I've been skating. Forged hollows are my current jam. Also, NHS customer service is the best!!!!
I rode Thunders for years. Didn't have an issue. Thought trucks were trucks essentially. Recently got some Indy 149 hollows. Changed everything. They're the best trucks I've ever had and I'm a total Indy convert now.
Ride them till they are in useable that will be a really sick vid “I broke my indys!!” It will also be interesting if you skate a decks it it’s un rideable
I always snap my axles from landing primo or wobble out the mounting holes which is my fault hahha. I wish I could keep a pair long enough to get grooves but it hasn't happened in 18 years of skating
I don't skate that often and am not a trick heavy skater so my favorite trucks are thunders. they are just super responsive especially for turns. I use the hollow lights and they have really good feel. thunder also mall grabs really comfortably.
My current setup is an 8.5 Paterson board w Indy Mid 149s with the inverted kingpin.(tiagos) Spitfire F4s Classics 53mm 99a..love it..tho i might go a little bit smaller to 8.38..bit besides that love my setup.
I 2nd this ! At my age I mostly cruise haha . I have been able to understand board dimensions vs trucks and how they relate , thanks to Ben . My 2 favorite trucks are Thunder Teams and , oddly , Tracker Darts (swapped in stock Thunder Blacklight bushings for the really hard Tracker bushings) .
Objectively, tensor mag light lo and tensor mag light regulars are the best, with custom 101a bushings. Most stability and lightness for tricks, no sacrifice on quality or durability.
Ace 44s. I swap out the bushings for Bones softs. Second favorite are Indy 149s. I like the way Aces grind compared to Indys BUT Indys sound better in a grind. I think it's because Indys use a harder aluminum. Sorry, no all-caps. I'm feeling casual this afternoon.
I’ve been playing around with deck/truck size. First bought Indy 169 to put on the old school deck I pulled out of the closet. Then realized the deck was valuable so I went to 144 standard on 8.25 deck. Felt a bit small so I got a 9” deck for the 169. Felt a bit big. Now have 149 titanium on 8.5 deck and I love it. I like the forged baseplate too because I use 1/8” squishy old man risers.
I just bought the Indy 169 and haven't tried them out. Was thinking of buying a 9.25-9.75 for my OJ 60mm 78a but I feel that might be too big. I'm tempted to return the 169 and it has the six hole which I see that you can just drill a hole for.
I had the same feelings about my Stage 8 146s. I kept trying to ride other trucks but I gravitated back to them every time. They are currently completely trashed and to this day I still find myself back. They have GK kingpins on them so they had way more grind life than your average stock Indy but alas they have no grind clearance left and the rounded kingpin head is the only thing keeping them skateable at all. The day they crack or snap I might have to hold a funeral with a well scripted eulogy to honor the greatest pair of trucks I've ever owned. That being said I like the way big wide Ventures skate the most but the places they lack are the places that Indys shine the most. Kinda like Ben and Thunder to Independent.
@@bendegros I bought 3 pairs of 146s at cost when a local Sk8 shop was going out of business a long time ago. This mentioned pair is the last ones left...but they are also the ones I had the best times on. I will probably end up with a new set of 11s in the near future.
I just bought venture trucks because that’s all they had in stock that fit my board and a huge chunk of the bushing came off after 2 session of just riding around in a parking lot.
riding big boards Ace and Indy are basicly the only choice anyway. managed to snatch some of the new 215s last month. been wanting to try em for a while.
I knew it lol! Indy basher lolol! I started on indy's in the early 90's then switched to venture as they were lighter. I still love indy's though fo sho xx
I bought krux earlier this year and found that they somehow manage to be completely unstable AND still not able to turn well while ridden loose. Lots of lean, no turn
I got a new setup a few months ago, after a ten year hiatus. Got a board I knew I'd like and told the guy whatever trucks and wheels he thinks would be good. Ended up getting Indys and 54mm wheels and it wasn't working for me, downsized to 52mm was better but I think I need low trucks
I haven't been skating for that long but I like thunder trucks bc they are really lightweight and really good turns when I ride. They are also good with ground tricks for me bc that's all I'm doing and enjoy doing for the time being.
I just did that with a 149 hollow hanger cast baseplate on matt berger flip deck. Felt super heavy, really nice ollie’s but i found it hard to get flip tricks consistent. But the board sticks if you have no problem popping really hard all day.
Raw thunder 149s were my first set of real trucks andare always my go to. Also tried venture and indy. Hated the ventures. The indys were pretty great though.
My FAVORITE are 169 indy titanium lights. but for my smaller boards i have 149 indy standards and 149 thunder team lights and i just love them both. If i HAD to pick id go Indy but thunders are so good for pinch.

@@InfinityGamerHDx too risky right now I'd say. Madrid and Spain is getting infected again, and you are forced to wear a mask at any place. Maybe you get lucky though
Hopefully you're grateful. I'm an East coast skater. Got to deal with cold and bad weather. NJ, NY ain't like it is at where you skate.
So Indys are more consistent overall which to me is the most important.
what’s your shoe size? I want to ride 8.25 and 144 but i’m afraid it might be too big for me
Standards mean silver stage 11 ?
Definitely a Indy 149 standard is my favorite truck so far
I'm loving the Hollow Indys 144 with the regular baseplate 😍
Why is hollow better?
@@palleh7742 it's just a bit lighter.
It's not better it just has a lighter pop feel.
I ghost pop alot with Indy's, so I wait for the mids with inverted kingpin. Been riding Thunders for years
Ace is my favorite truck. I love the way they turn and how responsive they feel. They grind really nice too and they are by far the best looking truck imo
Agreed - a month into trying Ace I put 33's, 44's and 55's on my quiver.
A perfect pop shiv is my favorite trick and that was nice.
That park looks really cool!
Indy 149 standards on an 8.5 is the best size for everything
Can you explain why? Why 8.5 size. 8.25 is the best with 144
Your Silly they have a full nose and perfect shape along with a lot of room to land, once you get used to it tech is not hard to do
I just got the Indy 149 for my 8.25 and it felt good today. I was going to try it on my 8.3 but a 8.5 does sound tempting down the road.
I like the 169 Indy’s that I’ve been skating for a while, I skate them without the washers so they’re nice and loose.
Just got Indy's 169 but not sure what deck width to get. Maybe a 9.25-9.75 for my 60mm OJ.
Same gotta let them jiggle around, its the best
YOU KNOW ALL THE SLOGANS TO THE BEST TRUCKS! Been riding them for at least 30 of the 33 years I've been skating. Forged hollows are my current jam. Also, NHS customer service is the best!!!!
Nice, just bought a pair of Milton 144s
Just gone from stage 10 low 139 to stage 11 149 forged hollow.. don't need to try another truck now these are just spot on..
I rode Thunders for years. Didn't have an issue. Thought trucks were trucks essentially. Recently got some Indy 149 hollows. Changed everything. They're the best trucks I've ever had and I'm a total Indy convert now.
Currently riding Team Thunder 147s and love em!
Ride them till they are in useable that will be a really sick vid “I broke my indys!!” It will also be interesting if you skate a decks it it’s un rideable
Indy guarantees new trucks if you manage to break them
krizz not anymore
I always snap my axles from landing primo or wobble out the mounting holes which is my fault hahha.
I wish I could keep a pair long enough to get grooves but it hasn't happened in 18 years of skating
Skated tensors and grind kings being my favorites back then but they both became hard to get so been skating indys for 10+ years now.
Yes independent 144s are the best!! But the bushings crack easy for me, still need to find some that work for me
Every truck has its place on the right board.
Indy’s and thunders by far my favorite
You should a good clean review on independent stage 4 trucks I believe have in you to be impressed by them
Objectively, tensor mag light lo and tensor mag light regulars are the best, with custom 101a bushings. Most stability and lightness for tricks, no sacrifice on quality or durability.
Film trucks are definitely my favourite
I really thought, it would be the Venture lows, because you ride them a lot too.
I remember you said that Vancouver was an Indy Town. Thats how I knew. Indy Gang🤘🏾
Stage 8s are pretty nice I must agree :)
On 149 Indy hollows with a quarter inch riser pads, the bushings fell apart but that’s due to the 100 degree weather from April til sept in Texas
169 standards! Big meaty destroyers of curbs! But an ace 66 is a fun alternative here and there.
riding big boards Ace and Indy are basicly the only choice anyway.
managed to snatch some of the new 215s last month. been wanting to try em for a while.
1. Ben Degros makes asmr core skate info videos.
2. I just found out Tracker trucks still exists? Ben can you review some if those? I'm so curious
I knew it lol! Indy basher lolol! I started on indy's in the early 90's then switched to venture as they were lighter. I still love indy's though fo sho xx
I used my friend's board with krux they suck compared to my indy's
Krux just don't turn idk if its the bushings but Indy's do feel so much better
Dude I'm riding krux right now and they're impossible to turn
@@miniberricsclips2594 I feel you I'm gonna switch back to Indys when I get new trucks
I bought krux earlier this year and found that they somehow manage to be completely unstable AND still not able to turn well while ridden loose. Lots of lean, no turn
Agree with these other comments krux are a little weird with turning
I got a new setup a few months ago, after a ten year hiatus. Got a board I knew I'd like and told the guy whatever trucks and wheels he thinks would be good. Ended up getting Indys and 54mm wheels and it wasn't working for me, downsized to 52mm was better but I think I need low trucks
I haven't been skating for that long but I like thunder trucks bc they are really lightweight and really good turns when I ride. They are also good with ground tricks for me bc that's all I'm doing and enjoy doing for the time being.
I got Royal Mids for 8,5 decks... my favorite trucks. I like Ventures and Tensors, but I prefer the large Royal Mids. 💯
1:52 this pop shuv was fucking beautiful
I just did that with a 149 hollow hanger cast baseplate on matt berger flip deck. Felt super heavy, really nice ollie’s but i found it hard to get flip tricks consistent. But the board sticks if you have no problem popping really hard all day.
bennnnnnnn, try putting 2 top bushings in each truck, it turns sooo smooth and its great. I fist heard about it from ishod, try it out. for a video
like, replace the bottom bushings with the top ones?
I knew you were gonna say Indys. Thunder is the brand I always go back to. Every other brand has distinct feel. Thunders feel neutral to me.
This guy makes my days better 😂 he needs to review a baker ASAP tho that would be a good vid
I love watching you Ben but I hope you see This because you are really inspiring to me in skating!
What a coincidence - next up in my "Watch Later" queue : Independent's "Savouring the Struggle" Video
:>
