Four roses small batch select makes the best old fashioned I have ever had. Full stop. So good. That single barrel is fantastic neat.
Basic 4 roses is very versatile. For $20, as far as bartending goes, it's great for cocktails while still being enjoyable as a shooter, neat or on a cube for the non-snob. Vastly underrated IMO.
Maybe should’ve given it more credit. Like I said in the video, my better half thoroughly enjoys cocktails I make with it so it definitely has its place!

I’m a fan of the Small Batch Select. Toured the distillery and very impressed.
i enjoyed their distillery too! one of my favorite things happened there...when i went to buy my ticket, he asked if i was military. I said I am former, and he said my tour is free. I asked him "dont you need to see my ID?" and his response was "i believe you...if you're lying to get a free tour, you have much more problems than me and might need the whiskey." Loved them ever since lol

Single barrel is my favorite bourbon of all time. There is some difference between bottles. But pretty close in consistent taste and nose.
Four Roses small batch was the first bourbon I ever tried that I liked. It got me into bourbon and It's my go to when I don't know what I want.
They are all not to my liking except the four roses single barrel. Absolutely delicious.
Well...on my fourth pour of OESQ and my first ever tasting of Four Roses. Glad I started with this one! $85 and I'm quite happy with the purchase. Very tasty!
Honestly it’s tough to go back down from those, but as long as you have the right expectations, you’ll be alright. The main thing is try other recipes!

Four Roses straight bourbon is actually pretty good. You get a couple different flavors on the palate. Small Batch Select is excellent and Singlebarrel bp won in a blind of cask strength for me.
Hey thanks for the breakdown of Four Roses. I agree with your tier list. Have you tried any of the limited edition? I did not get any last year. I just made a video making an old fashioned with four roses. I think it is interesting how they have so many choices. I am going to keep an eye our for the Four roses single barrel private select. Four Roses yellow label was my 1st ever bourbon (or alcohol of any kind)! I still stand by that it is a great beginner bourbon
I am curious, why was that the one you tried first? It’s just interesting to hear why people try the bottles they did first
@@TheBourbonWrench A couple of reasons. The label stood out and gave the impression that there was quality juice in there. I enjoy barrel proofs now, but the 80 proof was appealing then. It has enough complexity to not be boring and is a great introduction into what bourbon is without blowing the socks off a person new to alcohol lol
@@liquidprescription I like to hear peoples stories. Mainly because I try and remain as open minded as possible in everything, even if it’s a bottle I don’t like! I think people reading this comment could get something out of it! As I said in the video, my gf loves the drinks I make her using this so there’s benefits!

Love me some 4 🌹! I have six of the barrel strength recipes and everyone one of them are phenomenal. I’d say OBSK is my favorite, and OBSO as my runner up. I was able to try an 18 year SiB of oesk that was out of this world with a rating of S+ . I have the 2022 LE and it’s behind that 18year and my favorite OBSK.

Nice grading! I started with the small batch (B) $30 and then grabbed a small batch select (B+) $48 and I have a single barrel from Costco (A) $42 I like them all but the small batch is a very nice starter pour!

All single barrels 100 proof are OBSV recipe. I love 4 roses, have a few SB LE's, Single Barrel LE Elliott's Select 14 year, a 10.8 year OBSK and would keep SB Select in the bar at all times if I could source it in Canada, cheers
I haven’t seen a pick of the regular single barrel in a hot minute, but remember thoroughly enjoying the one I had. I love the standard option still though! The barrel strengths are next level good

@@camhester357 all whisky is better without chill filtration. It strips away so much, and should be banned in my opinion.
We live in the super information age, and anyone concerned by cloudiness in their whisky can learn that it's a positivie sign with a quick Google.
I think the recipe for the on the shelf single barrel is OBSV higher rye mashbill. And in my opinion is very good for $45

Four roses small batch is big with the basil haydens crowd. Its cheap easy whiskey with a fancy bottle and slightly elevated price tag.

Definetly the first person I've seen not like the 20$ bottle. I personally think its way better than wild turkey. It is also my absolute favorite for making mixed drinks.
It makes sense tho. Idk this guys tastes personally. But, many people rave and pay for overpriced blantons and eagle rare etc when they are just good. They arent much better or even the best for their MSRP and definitely not for the marked up price. I've done blind tastes with many people with those four roses etc and people rank them all over the place.
Wild turkey is just as average for 20$ as well. Most people I know its either or which they prefer. All I get on wild turkey is slight caramel and some spice and that's it. it's not anymore complex as the four roses. When it comes down to that its preference. Wehn ranking a 20$ whisky I don't expect it to be very advanced and for what it is it's slightly better to me and some of my friends than wild turkey. I know people who like the wild turkey slightly more as well.
I’ve never had a Single Barrel FR that could compete with the Select. In fact, I consider the Select one of the best bottles out there in that $55-$60 range.
Single Barrel is always a buy when I see it at Costco. Great value at their price.
Also have a soft spot for the plain yellow label. Sometimes I want something cheap and boring (pairs nice with a cold PBR back in the summer)

I have 3 different recipes, all totally different. The one I mentioned in this video is freaking amazing. Makes me wonder what the other 7 recipes taste like lol

Nothing stopping me from not using a typical ABC list, but this style of lettering stems from Japanese video game tier systems from back in the day. It’s just something that stuck, and I just keep that same style. I watch a lot of video game videos/tier lists so it’s just something I was use to!
Unfortunately the FRSBS is the only bottle worth buying from them. The cask strength SBs are rarer than BTAC in my area, so they don’t count. SBS is really really good though. The 100 proof SB is pretty boring to me.

Thank u i wanted to try 4 roses so i started regular and was disappointed in how bland it was like jim beam to me certainly not bad but very hard to get anything out of and even then was to subtle
I always found it interesting that Bulleit seems better at blending 4 Roses than 4 Roses.
ive had some fan freaking tastic bulleit picks thats for sure...I have a 12 year which HAS to be 12 year 4R and its amazing

My issue with Bulleit picks are they are capped at 104 proof
I've never had a bulleit that I didn't immediately spit out tbh. Just shows how much peoples taste varies.
I’ve never pulled the trigger on the small batch select because for the same $60, I can just buy Rare Breed or a Russell’s single barrel 🦃🤘

That’s honestly my one downside. I honestly feel like it’s a $40-$50 bottle, not $60. After tax, it puts me over $60 here
my $45 - $55 on the store shelf rotation is Rare Breed, Russell's SB, Knob Creek SB 120, and Four Roses SBS. based on your flavor profile,.. you should give this a chance. the 104 proof is really nice

Yea, your taste is subjective, now try it in its price range, four roses small batch is an excellent bourbon for the price, same for the rest, bad testing results
How would you rank these with the same ranking system? A tier list is designed to rank them to each other. A B-ranked bourbon doesn’t mean it’s bad, but four roses small batch isn’t close to the best thing they have.
@@TheBourbonWrenchyou're placing an entry level bourbon against four roses heavy hitters, that's not a fair judgement, in its price rangw it is a good bourbon.
You have to include the price in a rating. Or at least normal people do. Its your rating tho and your taste. I think blantons and eagle rare and buffalo trace tase just good. And that's for their MSRP. If I am rating Blantons at its upcharged price its a F if I drank a whisky that cost as much at it does right now and I didn't know it was blantons I would be pissed off. Buffalo trace is pretty good fro 35$ but it is not much better if at all as some other options that are 35$ at my local store.@@TheBourbonWrench
