American light whiskey could be just about any mashbill. What makes it "light" is that it's aged in used barrels rather than new, and can have higher barrel entry proofs.
It is distilled to a higher proof too: 160-190 proof.
But I feel like I haven’t seen any other mash bill other than high corn!
I'm most excited for the Calumet because I'll probably actually see it and because they are consistently awesome.
As much as I like Bernheim, I bet the Penelope will be great.
Don't sleep on Redemption, nerd. They put out good stuff and the price is right.

As far as I understand Light whiskey has nothing to do with the mash bill. Bourbon must be distilled below 160 abv and can’t be entered into the barrel above 125. Light is distilled to 160-190 and can be barreled that high. Light may also not have the new oak requirement
Yeah that’s true. I guess what I was trying to get it is it’s just been predominantly corn mashbills we’ve seen in light whiskey. At least the ones I have!

I have the 10, Decadence and 13yr Widow Jane! Great job they did blending those bottles.
5 finishes on a 99 Rye? I’m sure that they are finishing this in separate parts and blending afterwards.

To my knowledge they're discontinuing OGD114 and it will allow for more expansion of bottles - like the Baker's 107 high rye. Probably just a 107 proof OGD.

@@TheBourbonWrench Maybe. Apparently some states are selling Baker's for 40 and 50$? Baker's 7+ single barrel. In Ohio it is like a 70$ bottle!
107 proof high rye Baker's 7 single barrel I would see going for at least a similar tag as the red Baker's 7. The green label might be a little bit more if it's MIN 7 years and high rye, but it could be the same or less if it's CONSISTENTLY 7-year age stated.

The Widow Jane Opal KY source is almost certainly heaven hill as that's who owns widow jane now.
Going to be looking for the Penelope for sure the 9 year was fantastic. Don’t look for anything over 150 so a bunch I won’t be looking for.

Awamori is a Japanese whiskey made from long grain rice
Small quibble: it's classified as a shochu rather than a whisky, though it is all grain (rice). It is native to Okinawa. It varies in proof, often not high enough to really be a whisky as well. It's not usually barreled though, as far as I know? So...odd.
I mean, is it a barrel typically used for finishing? The fact that’s in the mix of all those other barrels just seems weird. I feel like all the nuance will be lost

The only one I would scour for is the OKI 15. Not even sure they sell that stuff up in Wisconsin. We’re just starting to see Fortuna and other Rare Character products.
I live in Ohio and we don't see Rare Character or Fortuna distributed at all. OKI sits on shelves.
@@noworldforeric apparently they do sell it at a store in Milwaukee but that’s too far of a drive from where im at to roll the dice & see if its on the shelf 😅
From what I’ve seen, that bottle will be next to impossible. Hardly any of it made and most of it will go to friends, bars, and people who do very nasty things in alleys
