I subscribed,u need some help im a retired manual machinist,32yrs in same shop,u gonna need a set of O.D mics,first lathe i ever ran was a Warner Swasey 3A,,then went to HBM,Deveileg Jig Mill,
Thanks for the comment. I do have a set of od mics. Haven't used them in years. Have a habbit of just grabbing the calipers for most everything. I haven't ran a lathe since trade school, so it's been fun to get to tinker with it. Much respect to the old school machinists!
CNC guys get mad call them button pushers,ITS TRUE they dont know speeds or feeds for differnt kind of materials dont have to figure out bolt cicles,machine tells them what u cutting cast iron,stainless steel try cutting a cast stainless steel extruder with a 8 in auger and 2 feeders,ITS TRUE,I went to a trade school after high school got a job quit the school to get on hand experience,u dont get that at a school,remember old guys i worked with were making fastest planes in the world P-51 Corsair,B-29
I'm always in awe of what they did back in the days before everything when to cnc. I still have my books from school and I'm going to have to go back thru some of them.
Guess i was lucky,2 guys that were my dads friends,grew up knowing them,them 2 guys were my go to guys,i needed some help doing something,they would say i will tell how i would do it but im not doing it for u,u think my way wont work u can try your way,I respected these guys,they were the best machinist i ever knew,my eyes the best of the best
