Sorry to hear how this affects you. I hope you can heal and know that you are much better and more blessed than the haters! Racial abuse especially as a child and teenager is very traumatic, so I understand exactly what you're saying, I'm a beautiful blessed African female went to all white school growing up.

Racism everywhere, so bloody cruel. I knew a guy from Uganda who said he saw first hand how a bunch of African kids almost killed 2 albino kids in his town. He sad the saddest part was that the kids who attacked the albino boys were encouraged by the elders. Racial sickness in all humans.

As a person of Asian descent and as a parent I agree with the speaker that open conversations are needed. Thank you for this talk. However, to be honest I still struggle on what specifically you can say to prepare your children for racism. Ignore those people? Run fomthe bullies? Stand up for yourself and perhaps prepare to get bullied again or silenced by your teachers? Leave school/work/the city? Create support groups at your school? Volunteer? Pray/meditate for those feeling fear-induced hatred or perhaps being lead from too much ignorance, peer pressure and even suffering in their hearts? I don’t really know what the answer is but figuring this out every day is very hard, exhausting and at times even terrifying. ~~Honestly, even for me at this age, and with my kids already grown up, I struggle with my own internal dialogue on how to prepare myself and figure out how to deal with discrimination and micro aggressions everyday. I sometimes wonder if I should say something and stand up to racism at the risk of being judged (which includes self-judgement) as being “too sensitive”. I agree that staying silent is not the answer at all, but unfortunately, the prevalence of racism is such in our society, that the fear to break that silence is at times too big. ~~ A couple of years ago, I started to see a lot of inclusive messages that talk about love and tolerance start to proliferate on people’s front yards or bumper stickers, and even though I appreciate them, I don’t know if that is enough. I agree with the speaker that we should have conversations about this and I guess that’s exactly what we’re doing here. But I also think it should not be only the work of parents of children of color or people of color to prepare them (or themselves as adults) on how to deal with racism. I think there is a lot of work that everyone needs to do, so that society as a whole heals. We’re all in this together and even if someone has been fortunate enough to not have been or continue to be a direct victim of racism, all of us end being affected by it by living in a society that continues to perpetuate it. I don’t have answers obviously, just a lot of questions, and the certainty that I’m sure most of those here share that something needs to change. And again, perhaps it can start with honest conversations where we all participate and listen, no matter how uncomfortable this may be.

I think its helpful to have a community. My school was about half white and half asian back in the late 80's. The asian kids had their own community to feel part of so I don't think it was a big issue. I have some cousins who went to an almost all Hispanic kids and the kids all harassed them for being white. Kids will pick on anyone who is different. Now a burning cross on the front lawn is not normal bullying or cultural insensitivity, I'm not equating the two.

Upon my viewing, there are 221 people that have likes. If those 221 will teach/speak to their own children and those in their families, churches, and communities about this problem otherwise, we invite curses upon our own. According to the scriptures, what is being done to others will be done to those who are participants, in thought, words, or deeds.
