You hit the nail on the head about the trans. Keeping it cool is a must. You do that, they will last. Appreciate all the work y’all done on my Monte SS. She’s still screaming with no issues and pissing off a lot of v8 owners 😂😂😂😂
Just bought some spare bits for my Holden Commodore from you guys! You guys seem super awesome, and really know what you're doing with the 3800. I live in the UK, and found the car, and instantly bought it once I figured out what engine it runs. Happy to see I can get parts for the engine easy enough from ya'll.
I have a 430 whp 383 96 c4, and recently I've been yearning for my old GTP.. My buddy doesn't believe me when I tell him it PROBABLY would've smoked my vette off the line.
You guys should make a build list with all of these recommendations for both “Road to 300 whp” and “Road to 400 whp” on your website with links. Maybe not in a ‘Stage’ format because that seems cheesy, at least to me, but it could really help newcomers/mid-experienced people to the W-Body platform have an easier route to success all in one place. Keep up the good work! Love seeing these videos. I’d also love to see a video based on an NA 3.8 going top swap or turbo, and your recommendations too.
I had a lot of fun with 01 GTP. I’d be curious what the 300whp and 400whp setups run in the 1/4 mile. Mine was just a pulley, mail order tune, stock air box mod, ZZP u-bend delete and ZZP exhaust (circa 2006). I was running high 13’s with that and loving it!
Maxima 10w40: zzperformance.com/products/maxima-rs-10w40-synthetic-oil?_pos=1&_sid=3ec401f27&_ss=r Dex 6: zzperformance.com/products/dexron-vi-transmission-fluid?_pos=1&_psq=dex&_ss=e&_v=1.0 We like to run both 1/4 quart over full.
I dyno'd 425/447trq wheel at 20* of timing on e85 w 60lbers and a 340lph spicy tune. Tim's original tune which is what I run, dyno'd 389/450 at the wheels on 17* of timing. stock cam stock valve train although upgraded 90lb springs made a huge difference afterwards due to valve float.
The more i get into the 3800 platform...the more I realize its just so much easier to put the l67 in a 4th gen camaro and turbo it, t5 trans will last as long as you dont power shift it and upgrade the clutch. No 4t65hd bs to worry about, plus the boomer larry's, edgars and blue collar tyrones in stock z28's arent expecting it
I mean, put forged internals in it, do a compound turbo/tvs , E85 and sauce. Good luck keeping that slush box trans alive . Never understood why GM didn't use the trans from the Northstar on the s/c 3.8 . I know these engines can make power but let's be realistic, the chassis can't effectively use anything past 280 WHP without failing with cartoonish bravissimo.
The world record for the m90 is already over 500 whp. Maybe stateside zzp has the m90 record. But not world wide. 500 whp has already been cracked on a hevily modded gen 3 m90 over in Australia.
@@williamkish9402 very aggressive porting of the blower, light weight supercharger rotors to spin it up to 22k rpm, 102 mm tb, cammed, heads, mace a2a intercooler plate, and I think it even had a gilmar drive to negate belt slip. Like everything you can do to an m90 supercharger and then some.
@@williamkish9402 it's not my build. It's all over fb tho. Yes it's cut up and welded. If you want that m90 to shine, 4"+ intake and 102mm tb, and if you're really shooting for the moon, a ported outlet as well.
I’m waiting on the vid for that stroker kit! Gonna snag one at the end of October if they are still available. I’m guessing the m90 will reach like 520-550 with that on
Been listening to your podcasts for years, I have a 2021 awd trax (auto) ive seen some scattered youtube videos where people use your guy’s parts on their trax. Im assuming it would be the sonic as they are both the 1.4? I guess im wondering what can be done if anything just to give it a litttttle more pep, ik its a fools errand but im not looking for a drag car, just some cool BOV noise and maybe a little more getup n go, thank you
We have had some customers confirm different parts from the Sonic 1.4 will fit on the Trax with little to no modification. If you search "Trax" in the product reviews of various Sonic parts on the site you'll find people talk about installing them. Otherwise, email Randy.O@zzperformance.com and he can inform you on SUV fitment.
So disappointed with ZZP. Discontinued the thing i was saving my hard earned cash for just to recommend going a completely different direction with my w-body. That being the n/a supercharger kit. No i dont wont turbo and was hoping not to remove heads..... Welp money will now be going to Milzy Motorsports
How do you make the transmission handle this tho? I keep hearing without the gmp 1inch chain the trans is not going to enjoy that. And the 4t80 is $$$ and the upgrades for the 4t65 is even more $
The key is keeping it cool. They heat up quick after a few rips, so I recommend getting a trans cooler or at least a nice aero gauge to watch the temp better. Try and keep it under 200 degrees.
Or start with a manual 5 th gen Camaro throw the money at something that starts at about 370 wheel hp. All the money you spend on that , you looking at 600 hp with an LS3, get a SS sedan or G8 if your a sedan guy, you can leave the trans alone and do cam kit trunnion upgrade, heads ,headers, like magic your at 550 already and reliable too
These videos with the 3800 just gets me so excited
Same here. Been collecting, building, racing and restoring 3800 W-bodies for 18 years now. I love my 04 dale jr L67 SC Monte SS😍
All legit 414whp on L26 genv💪🏿
I hope zzp3800 stuff never goes away
Same here!! I love my 04 dale jr L67 SC Monte SS as well as all W platform cars with the 3800

Great video. Grimace’s wheels are sweet. I’ve always loved their color.

Roller Rockers on a XPZ cam ? I was under the impression not to do that
Nope! Z3 kit with 90lb. Springs and 1.9 Rockers
I could go faster but playing nice with the 4t65
Turbo gets good gas mileage when you are out of the boost😉
Been waiting for the 2nd part of this 😆
I love the 3800 build. 👏
3800 is just a tough engine buick built a great engine
I have a corvette C5 built but I still miss my gtp coupe with the zzp mods I might have to buy another

Road to 800whp in a few weeks?
My 1st fast car back in 2002❤
If you were gonna do a Turbo setup. Some rods, low compression pistons, cams, ported heads, injectors and a good tune. 600-800hp. Block can handle it
I had friends back in the day with the Grand Prix,s they were quick. Head gaskets were the weak point , a good new modern material gasket will do it
Thank you ZZP for displaying Americas last flagship sedans that are the longest lasting cars on the road. Praise the coveted 3.8
I feel tingling down low
There's a shop that sales 600+ 3800 motors. In Texas. Back in the day about 10 years ago there was a dual nitrous kit. Direct fit
Shop name?

I wonder what you guys can do to a 2015- 2017 Buick Regal gs 2,0 and the 2015-2020 Regal TouringX Wagen 2,0 400 Whp or 500 Whp
To get 500whp for m90. Thinking a stroke kit to a 4200. (4.2L) i heard it’s hard keep it idle right. Thoughts anyway.
where do you guys find those style of grills for the gtp??? they look so sexy

virtually all same engine just diff oreintation
E85 is played. You could of used water and ran 93 pump gas.
At what power does the stock 2.5 inch exhaust start becoming a problem? Thanks
I would it’s the same as most any other car platform where it’s single digit horsepower increases but exponentially more noise lol
You mean 2.25 inch exhaust.
Just stay ahead of the curve and go 3 inch...will help with KR provided its paired with the headers
Just buy a impala ss or Monte Carlo ss 5.3 sounds way better with no belt or heat to deal with . Also cam swap if needed
Will Water/meth injection do much for these cars
