    HOLY COW LAUREN!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I struggled for almost 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get these zipper pulls on then I thought, "Hey Lauren might have a video on this!" Sure enough! Talk about EASY! I just did my second zipper on my first bag in over 15 years! So excited to have found your videos! You have saved me! I used a crab fork with the tiny prongs and the pull went right on! Thank you, thank you, thank you! My next bag is the Charlotte by Swoon watching your video step by step! Thanks again, you are AWESOME! (Love your hardware too!) You also throw in a bit of comedy which is really great too! ;)

    I agree with your advise on the invisible zippers. Not really for bag making. I've replace many a zipper in garments when my customers thought these zippers were invincible and invisible. Seriously.

    Oh I love that fork trick! I wish I would have seen this last year when I was teaching a 4-H group how to make a continuous zipper bag using half the zipper. Putting the pull back on was the hardest part! I also wish I knew about the #5 zipper. I bought purse zippers with double pulls so one zipper could be used by two kids but I think the wider coil would be easier to reattach the pull. I do love the wider tape to sew on.

    Lauren, after watching several of your tutorials, it occurred to me that before you started sewing every time, you used your fly wheel to put the needle into your fabric. I have been sewing for about 35 years and didn't realize I should be doing this!!!!!!! I have struggled forever with the thread jamming up in the back of my project if I forgot to hold the thread tails when starting. I think this is a problem with Bernina that has always plagued me. All this to say, realizing this has made me very happy. I feel really stupid, but thanks to you and others' tutorials I have been able to enjoy sewing more. Thank you for explaining things so well!

    You actually can put the double tabs on from the same end. You have to put the first one on "backwards" by leaving the tape together, edging it up the zipper pull’s butt a ways and then advance the pull by separating the tape on the front side of the pull. Now the zipper is already separated and ready to install the other pull.

    With backpacks or a handbag like the Shoreline Shoulder bag (by Dog Under My Desk) that have zipper closures, exterior zip pockets & interior smaller pockets, it's nice to use matching #5 zip for the closure, #4.5 zip for the exterior zip pockets and the #3 zip for the interior pockets.
    The only time I'd consider an invisible zipper would be for a hidden security pocket since they are thinner so no big budge like a #3 zip.

    I used to work in an upholstery shop and we put the pulls on from the other end when it did not matter if the zipper was open or closed at the end when we put it in the cushion. They just slide right on and open the zipper as they go.

    I have a difficult time finding #5 zippers in a wide variety of colors. I saw on one video that she has the zipper tape dyed to match her cork. I found an Etsy shop that has a beautiful selection of colors and she calls them "cork colors". The problem is you do not get to choose the finish of the zipper teeth and they are sold in kits of 5 different colors. I just want to buy zipper tape in colors to match my cork or vinyl with my choice of finish. Do you know where I can find that?

    I love zipper by the yard! Now let's get back to that shrimp fork that followed you home. Years ago I worked in a restaurant that served lobster and shrimp there for shrimp forks. But because so many people were swiped them the servers had to buy their own shrimp forks for their customers to use. We had to buss our own tables for our the shrimp forks, take them to the dishwasher, stand there while they went through the wash so we could use hand them out to the next customer. So if that fork is going to follow you home please tip generously!

      what was the metal tubing for? to hold the fork?

    • @tlolovestats
      @tlolovestats 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sugarmuffin57 yes. I don't know how to explain it well, but I went to home depot and found a threaded pipe (threads on both ends) that was like 2 inches long and wide enough for the handle of the fondue fork to fit down it (snug so it doesn't move around). Then I found a flat disk that was also threaded that would accept the other end of the pipe. I then just put the fork handle down into the pipe and put a bend in it. It works like a charm and cost me like $2 because I already had the fondue forks. Its snug in the pipe so it doesn't move around. If you couldn't find one snug enough you could just stuff paper or something down the sides to keep the handle from moving aound. Hope that makes sense.
