Throughout the history of gaming we have seen a LOT of controllers. some good, some bad, and some just ugly. Today we are looking at the worst controller designs of all time.
The early Playstation controller models were lookin gooood. I remember playing on a Mad Catz Original Xbox controller for so long that it slowly started to degrade on me. All the inputs work fine, it's just that the rubber grip was slowly coming off the palm area and left thumbstick. When the thumbstick rubber finally fell off it took a chip with it. So now I had an inverted N64 Joystick with quadrant 1 missing, but it didn't bother me most of the time. I was a kid. I had a connection with this piece of plastic that was giving me so many fun memories. I ignored the stiffness and forgot what it was like to have a soft thumbstick for my left thumb. However it did bother everyone else who held it in their hands. Especially younger relatives.
Only problem I had with the Duke was the placement of the black/white button. Then again, I only ever used it at demo kiosks. As soon as I bought an Xbox, Microsoft had switched over to the S model. Given more time, I could have gotten the hang of the Duke's layout. Worked fine for Splinter Cell and MechAssault.

also, just saying, the original playstation controller is not the one we all know and love, that (the Original Dualshock) came out in 1998, 3 years after the Playstation launched.
Well... it’s huge. Plus (even though I play Xbox) I feel PlayStation duelshock is better because you have both of your analogs right belt to each other, instead of one at an odd angle
Yeah, I've always loved the move controllers. They're comfortable to hold and I like the big, squidgy, light up ball on the end. Besides, If I have a VR headset on, I'm not gonna be looking at them so it doesn't matter what they look like.

The PS1 prototype controllers are way LESS super-Nintendo than the final PS1 controllers. They actually just took a Super Nintendo controller and added grips and extra back triggers.
Absolutly, it seems as they tried to make a controller less similiar to the Super Nintendo and than decided that it can't be much better, just improve it. Love the PS Controllers for being a Evolution of the SNES one-
I have an ouya and I like it. There were 2 main batches: the first was bad. The second was much better with functionality, and looked better, too. There were some all black anthracite controllers that were made and better than the second batch but still part of it. That's why there are mixed reviews online. :-$
I actually kind of enjoyed using the MadCatz GameCube controller, and the sticks and buttons were very responsive. But the most problems I’ve faced with it was my A button, which I pretty much used to beat the hell out of when I was younger, when I was playing Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros.

Their Gamecube line of controllers was one of the worst to ever come out. The analog sticks would break, the buttons would stick, and the whole controller was horridly unresponsive. These things would easily become unusable in a few months, a total ripoff compared to the excellent tournament quality arcade sticks that Madcatz makes today.
The Alphagrip was primarily aimed as a keyboard and mouse replacement for typists and not released for any consoles, so not sure it should be on the list tbh
The Sega Dreamcast was an amazing console with some of the best games in its time. However the controller was uncomfortable at best and if you were playing fighting games, potentially painful due to the sharp edges on the D-Pad. Not to mention it was awkward to hold. I think the original X-Box controller was designed after it.
I loved Kyle Morgam commentary in this video. I also loved the fact how people purchased the Wii Bowling Ball and actually tossed it through their television 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't really care for the looks of the PS Move controllers, unlike the Kinect at least it works, I have two of them i remember I when I played Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition ( ps3 ) with one and I never looked back at traditional controllers ever again. also I really liked how the glowing ball change colors depend on the game, like in epic mickey 2 when you shoot paint the ball will glow blue and when shooting thinner it will change to green, also in infamous 2 if you started to turn into a Villain the color of the ball will turn red and when going more into hero route it start to change into white. one of the best move exclusives is a game called Sorcery it's not your typical short tech demo type of games, it's a fully completed third person action adventure game, a mix between Harry Potter & Zelda Skyward Sword. I'm not trying to damage controlling here nor trying to defend the product, it's just my opinion.

And at 3:43 the reason the Original PS1 controllers looked like Nintendo mutations was probably because the very first PlayStation Prototype (joint Sony / Nintendo project) Console was, well... Basically a Sony SNES with an additional CD drive.
Your 'Buy nice or buy twice' one, learned that one the hard way, more than once! Several times, I got different controllers because it looked at the time a good deal, then I find out too late I should have bought the really nice 20 to 25 dollar controller in the first place! Few things suck worse than getting a new controller, have it not work at all when you get it or it is complete crap in a week or a half! Then you can't play at all until you finally can get a decent controller!
My first ever system was a Gamecube. I bought it used back in 2008, and it came with a Mad Cats controller. While it was defiantly a lot cheaper feeling, it worked just fine and still does to this day. I have never had a problem with it, apart from the A button sticking sometimes and the cable shorting out (which was probably my fault and just a product of me playing a lot of Mario Kart.
I had a couple of those mad cats controllers and you forgot the buttons would stick, the cords shorted out, the triggers would break, and they would eventually just give up the will to live quit working entirely.

I might be in the minority, but I always thought the original Xbox controllers were quite comfortable to hold and use. Even after they redesigned them and released the never versions, I still prefered to use the older ones.
The duke controller is the most comfortable controller I've ever used. Microsoft sent me the wrong controller when I sent in my s controller. Was pissed initially, but then I used and loved it.
I always thought the duke was unfairly maligned. The S is still probably better imo, but the duke wasn't a bad alternative at all. Even as a teenager it fit my hands just fine.

I wasn’t even a teenager yet, probably 11 or 12 and I thought it was really comfortable. I actually use one of the new ones. For most games, it still stands up really well. I say most because the new ones do have shoulder buttons, but they aren’t as quick to hit as a standard controller and the white and black buttons are… well the same.
If prototypes counted, then you should of put the original PS3 controller design on the list, since it almost got an official release until it ticked off a lot of fans online!
This one time I visited a friend’s house, turns out he got a virtual reality headset for Christmas. I played one of the virtual reality games he also got called “The VR Playroom”. I tried one of the games in it were all I have to do is wear a headset and head-but all the buildings near me while my friend had to avoid signs, helicopters, cars and I’m pretty sure something else but I don’t really remember if there was or not. Anyway after I head-but buildings all around me, there’s these platforms that my friend has to get to, after he gets there the bridge turns into a wall and then I gotta head-but that, then there’s this giant plane that throws down tiny trees, couches, a whole entire arcade thingy (I don’t know what it’s supposed to be called), and lots of more things. The point was that he had to pick all those things up and throw it at me (there was also a rocket launcher). If he broke the VR headset that I’m wearing as a monster, he uses a giant beam with his friends to blast the monster into space, then they win, in order for me to beat them, I gotta head-but helicopters on all the platforms to collapse them all. Then if I do, he gets away but then for my last thing to head-but was there giant statue that was apparently right behind the platforms the whole time. I’m pretty sure that’s all to explain for this thing but there’s two things I wanna mention... 1. In real life I head-but my friend, I apologized 2. I head-but a drawer, in real life There’s also this other game called “ASTRO BOT” I really enjoy that one, just as much as “The VR playroom” but Astro Bot is like a story mode, but all and all I really recommend these games for you! (If you have a PS4, a VR headset and a PS4 controller)
No, its really good, but not the best. And this because of the assembly design. I have a v1 and a v2, both of them creaking, when i apply a little grip force to them during games. The best is the DS3.

I say most because the new ones do have shoulder buttons, but they aren’t as quick to hit as a standard controller and the white and black buttons are… well the same.

This one time I visited a friend’s house, turns out he got a virtual reality headset for Christmas. I played one of the virtual reality games he also got called “The VR Playroom”. I tried one of the games in it were all I have to do is wear a headset and head-but all the buildings near me while my friend had to avoid signs, helicopters, cars and I’m pretty sure something else but I don’t really remember if there was or not. Anyway after I head-but buildings all around me, there’s these platforms that my friend has to get to, after he gets there the bridge turns into a wall and then I gotta head-but that, then there’s this giant plane that throws down tiny trees, couches, a whole entire arcade thingy (I don’t know what it’s supposed to be called), and lots of more things. The point was that he had to pick all those things up and throw it at me (there was also a rocket launcher). If he broke the VR headset that I’m wearing as a monster, he uses a giant beam with his friends to blast the monster into space, then they win, in order for me to beat them, I gotta head-but helicopters on all the platforms to collapse them all. Then if I do, he gets away but then for my last thing to head-but was there giant statue that was apparently right behind the platforms the whole time. I’m pretty sure that’s all to explain for this thing but there’s two things I wanna mention...
1. In real life I head-but my friend, I apologized
2. I head-but a drawer, in real life
There’s also this other game called “ASTRO BOT” I really enjoy that one, just as much as “The VR playroom” but Astro Bot is like a story mode, but all and all I really recommend these games for you! (If you have a PS4, a VR headset and a PS4 controller)

No, its really good, but not the best. And this because of the assembly design. I have a v1 and a v2, both of them creaking, when i apply a little grip force to them during games. The best is the DS3.
