    Over the years, we’ve seen all manner of machines that allow us to play video games, from timeless classics to the outright ridiculous. Where there are consoles, naturally there are controllers, which have evolved from minimalistic pieces of hardware to highly technical bits of kit in just a few short decades. Hmm, not sure the sixaxis, the Duke, the Kinect or the U-Force belong on a list of worst games controllers. And the worst controller is a third-party knock off N64 controller? There are cheap crappy alternative controllers for literally every games system, so if that's the low bar of entry they could have all been made by Mad Catz.

    Guys, what’s with your audio this time around? It’s freakishly quiet in a…weird way. The whole audio needs to be passed through a mixing/mastering plugin, I had to put my TV to halfway max just to hear it properly, and that’s usually not a problem with your videos!
    If you need help, I do audio engineering and I’d fix it for free. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Many moons ago, the Gaming Historian made a video about the Power Glove. Apparently, the original prototype (developed before Mattel got their hands on it) used different sensors and actually worked really well... but would've been really expensive to mass-produce. So, Mattel changed just about everything to make the Power Glove more affordable. And we all know how that turned out

    The Duke kinda rocks once you’re used to it! And this is coming from someone with somewhat smaller hands. I can’t get as comfortable with the “S” controller no matter how hard I try. Not to mention the second controller butchered the white and black buttons. The placement was bad, but worse what that they made them small and sunken in too far. Games like GTA where you need to press both, or one of them plus the fire button for drive bys, are kinda ruined by the revised controller. I beat III and Vice City without cheats for the first time ever on a Duke. So it’ll always be my first choice for Xbox

    The duke was so fun, I was about 13 when we got one and it was huge but I could handle it just fine. The issue with the size was that Microsoft had no experience with controllers like this and didn’t overlap the boards that had the buttons coming through. This meant that the controller had to be huge to contain both of the boards at their full span. The S controller learned from this and crossed over the boards which is why they were able to fit all of the buttons etc on a smaller form factor.

    Appreciate not a lot of people liked it but I never had an issue with the Duke. Admittedly it was on the large side, the triggers were a little tight and the diamond formation of the buttons was awful for finding the right button quickly. That said I still had a lot of fun with it and actually think it was quite innovative for the time. It had analogue triggers which meant it was brilliant for racing games and offset analogue sticks which meant it was great for FPS and 3rd person games. Yes it was flawed in many ways but also great in others. Certainly one of the more memorable controllers from my youth.

    I think the handheld controller I didn't like the most as a kid was the one for the Fairchild Channel F. I still have mine and the whole 13 cartridges that were made for it. At least I think that's all there were.

    The Duke controller being bad is small hand propaganda, having to use my hands like claws to grasp your child sized pieces of plastic is insulting and painful

    • @strykah92
      @strykah92 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a point where I blamed my disdain for the Duke on my pre-teen hands too. However I’ve since tried again with fully adult sized hands, and it’s even worse than I remembered.

  • @jennyholiday88

    if we're including 3rd party controllers, this list is already broken. I can think of like 30 third party controllers worse than the Duke. honestly, I like triple jump, but a lot of their top _____ lists annoy me bc they don't even try what their ranking

      To be fair, a lot of ‘worst video game controllers’ videos, from any channel or content creators, tend to have wildly inconsistent criterion.
      My theory behind this (and I’m not trying to throw said videos under the bus): they merely parrot what controllers have notorious backlash within pop culture and/or social media rather than how objectively bad they are. How many active gamers have actually used any variation of CDi controllers? I’d wager very little (and I won’t pretend to be one of them either).

    the xbox duke control was very good I felt comfortable and I have medium hands you know what if it is bad control the dualshock 3 felt too light as if it were a toy and when I picked it up I felt that if I squeezed it a little it would go away break in half :) pd 6:14 playstation vr 2 is the kinect from playstation :)

    It's crazy how weird light controllers feel these days.
    Classic NES and SNES gamepads feel like toys. Some of that is just my age and growing up with them.

      They were mostly wired back then, so they didn't have the heft of batteries, or the rumble features controllers have now. It may also be the case of you actually being a kid back then and your hands now are much larger by comparison.

  • @krewsaders
    @krewsaders 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I disagree with the SixAxis. Yeah, it sucks that it didn't have rumble, but it still didn't deviate that far from the original formula. It's the controller we've loved since PSX, but wireless! Also, the N64 controller shouldn't be that high.

    The only improvement of the Boomerang 64 was the analog stick. It was smoother and it didnt rip off your skin like the original while playing Mario party (at least not as fast) lmao

    My mate had a CDI thingy when it was first released. We would have pitied him. But his wife was a bank manager and so he was loaded. So we found great amusement in pointing out to him how awful it was. Also fwiw, he also had an actual giant remote control satellite dish in his back garden back in the early 1980's. Purely to receive porn channels from Europe. God bless that man!

    I'd used the duke controller back in 2004 a few times when i had gone to this place which had OG xbox'es you could play for up to 2-3 hours at a time i think (me being just 10-11 at the time), the duke controller didn't bother me back then. And there are the newer versions done by hyperkin (have the standard black, along with the green & red ones) for the xbox one & windows 10 pc's, they work well for me whenever i use them. And fair enough, there are those who didn't like them much (plenty of people didn't), there are those who don't mind them. As the saying goes, each to their own.
