Even though fish abuse is awful, the fish keepers that started out with bad tanks but have grown and improved have learned some valuable lessons

True I started with a bowl a d 3 days later I got 15 gallon tank
My mom impulse bought a mustatd gas betta and then tried to keep it in a vase. I asked a friend if I could have a 10 gallon tank they were not using. I got some sand, and some aquatic plants and he has turned a very vibrant black from a very light Gray. I am so grateful that I subscribed and watched this channel because if I didn't that betta would definitely be in a vase.
🤣 I remember when I had my first fish. I had him in a .5 gallon tank with colorful rocks, a blue plastic plant, and a blue plastic rock shelter. Everytime I got home from school I would take that tank with me everywhere 🤣 My betta and I would watch TV together, I took him with me whenever I would cook, and I taught him some tricks. I graduated to a planted 29 gallon tank

My mom got me a 0.5 gallon tank for my betta fish. Then I did like 2 seconds of research and put it in a bigger tank. My fish is much happier now.
Here is my bad fish tank story; so my best friend got to fish sit one of her friend's fish.. She had lizards and a dog, but not really fish, so she didn't know that much about fish. The fish wouldn't eat so she asked me for help. She sent me the pictures and gave me the info. The poor dude was in a 2 or 3 gallon tank, not too bad for a tank size, but you haven't heard the entire description. The tank had a sponge Bob house, decoration with dirt on it, fake plants, and sharp decor and rocks. It was HORRIBLE. I just couldn't look at it. There was barely any space for the poor fish to swim. She was told me that the fish's owner said the fish is a betta- he was a flipping guppy!! I only looked at the fish once, and immediately knew he was a guppy. I showed my friend of a pic of a betta vs a guppy I found online, and she was horrified lol. She thought he was bloated, but honestly, I feel like it was mainly the guppies body shape (idk, I only own bettas 🤷♀️). I am pretty sure guppies need a group, but idk? It turned out the guppy was just stressed, he started eating thr next day. My friend's friend took their guppy back, but idk what happened to him. Hopefully he is still alive, but with his living conditions, I can only hope.

A couple of years back I used to keep predetory fish I sadly lost my 8 year old Asian Arowana then I transferred my 9foot predetory tank into a planted can't wait to share it with you in the ftr

It’s always great to watch a FTR on a snow day ❄️
When I first went to buy my first fish tank I decided to go as natural as possible. Also took a look at the display case and I noticed they had a hang on filter but no heater and I realized that because I live in Taiwan generally speaking a heater's not needed the temperature is pretty much always the same
However the the weather does drop between January to March so I purchased a heater just in case.
I purchased a 2.5 gallon but I did not know that you should have curves so you don't cut yourself on the corners of the tank
Now that was good for my female she enjoyed it very much and lived a good 3 years.
Oh and I also had hardscape nice smooth River stones. I gradually moved up to 12 fish tanks but I still couldn't figure out what was killing my fish
It was actually the water despite the fact that it had been cycled properly and I added to chlorinator and did regular water changes only plan I could get to live was any kind of a nubious my female bettas they could live well but my male bait has died before 6 months
Now after 3 years people who are living in Taiwan let your water sit for 3 days in a clean water dispenser with a spigot so you can dispense the water slowly and find almond leaves.
You used Driftwood don't boil it let the tannins stay it really helps with your fish and the tannins also keep the water neutral
And I finally figured out how to grow a successful bunch of stem plants with only liquid fertilizer. Put them straight into the water and I tied them sort of like a small tree because my beta likes to rest up on them and turns out they sprouted roots I think I might actually get some River stones and see if I could place them down into the river stones but they're doing quite well.
I have another plant that's resting behind River Stones it's kind of anchored down but the roots are behind the stones and it's doing great with the liquid fertilizer twice a week.
My tanks do not smell. My tanks don't smell and I finally found something I'm somewhat good at and I created these tanks on a really limited budget.
Honestly I think for one tank I probably spent maybe 50 US dollars. I knew that you didn't need to replace the cartridge not because I just knew but because I knew businesses like to lie to people and tell them you need to replace things all the time.
I might just come with age but I don't use filter cartridges anyways. What I do use is biomedia with a nice sponge and then for the hang on filter with a low filter flow I actually just took a piece of sponge and I put it across the filter and used to rubber band works great and it's really good at about not blowing my fish around.
One day I am going to have a immaculate fish store and I'm going to teach Taiwanese people how to create a tank.

Real question here: why is it that I can find Java moss and Christmas moss easily and at a fair price, but finding Taiwan moss and flame moss are like finding honest politicians, and at insanity level prices? Maybe next chris-moss I will rescape my betta fish tank and use nothing but moss and Anubias
Buy online or from other local hobbyists and you’ll find better prices lol

Good morning! I’ve been watching your videos for about two years now and have decided to get into shrimp keeping. I’m getting a 10 gallon tank today and after the water cycles I’m hoping to bring some neocaridina shrimp home with me (single species tank with maybe a mystery snail) if you have any advice please let me know! I was so happy to find out I can get something as esoteric and personal as a Spongebob house for my aquarium. That was the first day I looked into fishkeeping.
Am I the only person who didn't start the hobby with a betta? My siblings and I got a 20g tall community tank for chrismoss i want to say 10+ years ago. We semi did it right... we got they cycling down, but not the decor. We had the whole fruity pebbles and glow in the dark plants. We have had guppies, mollies, swordtails, tetras, corys, frog, and danios (not all at the same time). We still have rainbow gravel and fake plants in it. Currently the stocking is mostly tetras with a loach, danio, and upside down catfish. I'm working on convincing my parents to let my upgrade to a 30-40g since the tank is poorly stocked. College has also hindered my ability to update the tank since I am not home to do the care. (Thank you mom and dad for caring for my fishes for me!) I have plans, just can't get to them currently. I did attempt to put floaters in it, but the current was too strong for them :(

A tip for you Chris when trying to pronounce Cantonese characters or phrases try to use the back of your throat, its not quite the same as Mandarin so you also have to loosen up your jaw if you know what I mean. Hope you get better at it! Keep up the good work! And yes it was funny, I didn't even know you were trying to speak Cantonese. lol

Genuinely asking, but is 5gallons big enough for like 3 or 4 tetras and a beta fish with some live plants? Looking into maybe going for 9-10g or even 15g from Fluval instead if it isn't, but looking into ones that have filter already even if I have to lower the flow of it. Also any ideas for a pea puffer tank?
