my friend and his gf got 2 bettas in a tiny 2 gallon split in half, i recommended a 10 gallon and offered to add a divider for free. he said he didn’t have the space, but i recently saw on his social media that he upgraded to a 10 gallon and took my advice to get some live plants. feels good

Finally scaped and planted my bettas' tank this weekend! It's really satisfying to see complete especially because it was a bare bottom before. Now they get to swim through and rest on the various plant leaves and stems!

Any season that’s cold is my favorite. I live in Texas so that means I like late fall and winter haha. I have chronic illnesses that are put into flare by heat, so yes cold is wonderful.

For the fishtank coffee shop 1) All tanks have lids. The safety of the tank takes priority over being the most beautiful
2) Have signs posted with things like 'don't tap on the glass'
3) add labels and information near the tanks so people can calmly read/educate if desired. Consider also fishtank 'fact menus' at the tables about the nearby tanks so if people desire they can learn facts about the plants and animals in the tank
4) This would work very well as part of a larger local fish store (on the side)
5) Consider selling cookies in tank themed shapes that change periodically like leaves, snails, shrimp and various fish!
you can even build it up over time. Of course they all need to be 5/5 natural scapes. Consider variety and showing slices of different ecosystems from around the globe. I think having a varity including fresh and salt water would be best. It could function as an 'aquarium/coffee shop.
Honestly feel free to take my ides here and use them. I don't have the money/location or current skills to actually do this.
People would come from all over and want to see and get the cookies. Its a good idea. Just always have the tanks have lids assuming people will be stupid/evil and have an owner willing to ban people if necessary. Embrace the fact that people visit Fish stores like mini aquariums and make an aquarium/coffee shop!
6) include printed fact cards about the animal or plant the current cookie is based on that is 25 cents or free with 4+ cookies! Such as wild location, size, and care instructions. You could even have multiple cookies available at once and some secret/special ones that rotate out monthly, etc.

I do remember that coffeshop or small restaurant, with a saltwater tank as a wall in the middle of the room, where my mom and I when I was a child always eat some sweets. I cannot remember what I ate or drank, like every week my mom did go there with me (it was inside to a grocery mall, so we did buy food and then take a rest there) and all I remember is just that vivid and colourfull tank, with those fat anemone and cute fishes between. Seastars and sea urchin too! I‘m thankfull my mom always took a seat next to the tank because she knew I loved it, she told me that was even the reason we did go there. When I think about, me as a kid would have visited such a coffeeshop with shitty smelly abusive fishbowls, I would have been traumatized and maybe not even into aquaristic now. Thanks responsible restaurant owner who took huge effort and care of that big fishtank, with healthy fish, so I have only positive feelings connected with fishtanks. Even I will never be able to afford a saltwater one myself😭

My favorite season is spring when there are fresh leaves on the trees and fish in the creeks. Speaking of which, you should totally do a local fish collection video and make a biotope tank to share your local fauna off to the world. (Do another one of those temporary tanks, unless your DNR doesn’t allow you to release once they’ve been kept in a tank)
It’s honestly crazy the kinds of things that exist in creeks/small rivers in the US. I used to think it was only bass bluegill and other game fish. The micro fish are real.

I love how Chris scares me so much about tank size that now I constantly yell at my sister for putting a betta in a 3 gal.
just wanted to mention that 3 gallons isn’t actually that bad - of course, the betta would be so much more comfortable in a 5/10, and obviously there’s a lot of room for improvement, but 3 gallons is above the commonly seen "2.5 gallon requirement" you’d find online. im guessing she’s done a bit of research. hopefully it’s a tank with a filter and heater.
I'm currently doing my dissertation on marine aquariums at the moment in the UK. Trying to figure out ways to keep suitable water parameters with macroalgae (seaweed) and live rock the same way plants are used in freshwater, similar to the Walstad and Berlin methods. I do marine biology so when I got to choose the diss so obviously I chose fish tanks 😂😂
Macro algae in the sump will reduce nitrate if that helps

My weekend wasn't great. I've been having to give my green cheek conure a whole bunch of medication because he's been sick. The vet thinks it may be lead poisoning, so I bought test strips and I've been frantically testing everything he's been in contact with but I can't find lead in anything. I'm bringing him for a follow up next week so they can do a blood test for lead. I've had to keep him in a budgie cage so he doesn't hurt himself when he randomly falls off his perch due to his neck brace he needs to wear until the damage from his sudden plucking heals 😭

My weekend was spent in a stupor as I juggled a few overdued assignments (some are 2 months overdued) and about to due assignments while practicing for my English oral test. My favourite season is summer, because I live in a tropical country and that's about the only season I've ever experienced. Besides, other than the politics and all the mosquitoes, I wouldn't change a thing about the climate. Warm weather and rainy days for the win
My betta has the oddest behavior regarding my mystery snail, he only bothers it when it's on the top part of the tank, otherwise he just forgets there's a snail there and freakd out from time to time
Weekend was 4/5, more sleep would have bumped it to a 5.

I think we need to not only educate people but spread the word that getting into aquariums isn’t an instant gratification thing. The set up can be but then you cycle, then you get the fish, then you acclimate, then you maintain…I was uninformed once and now I have a 10 gal Fluval Flex for a betta and snail with live plants.

My weekend was a 5/5 because I got to buy a banjo catfish and a L398 pleco:) Plus my Krobia Xinguensis has babies again!
That “pink” looking tank at 3:00 looks like the fluorite red clay substrate. If you get a really dusty bag and don’t rinse it it coats everything in the tank. After a lot of mechanical filtration they may want a small sand or gravel layer to keep it from kicking up.

Older FFT videos recommend the Nicrew lights and I’ve bought 2 of the 24/7 ones and they have been really nice for the price. Just need to reset the time whenever the power goes out.
I live in Texas so I didn’t really have a favorite season (since we only have hella hot and hella cold) until I went to college in northern Texas. Up here, there are trees that bloom with really densely packed white flowers every spring and it’s absolutely lovely.
Summer. No school, no frostbite, just chill and ice cream.
3.5/5 weekend. I worked basically all of Sunday (but love that overtime money). But not all too bad since I got to take a friend & my boyfriend out to hang out in the city. So I was like a tourist for day.
& my anxiety is rising as I get my second shipped Betta female. It’s not too cold here in Kansas but spring is for sure coming.

I've watched some older FTRs and there were all those gold fish in bowls and the first thing I thought of when I've watched it was "Finally a fish on TV that's not in a bowl" :D
I don't know much about gold fish so I would be interested if that's an adequate size of the tank. To me it seems OK, but...
Also, my favorite season is late spring when everything is still new but already vividly green and it's pleasantly warm so I don't need 7 layers just so I can go for a 10minutes walk. Ooooh, I'm looking forward to that 🥰 Just few more weeks...

I actually love hot weather, but here in south mexico not so far from the sea, in summer, gents soOoo rainy and cold at times, so I think I prefer spring (like right now) it's really hot but with a lot of cold wind, and there's plants and flowers and insects everywhere and I love to see them flying around or getting into the actual house

Second, Spring because colors, heat from summer not there yet, great time for outdoor planting and repoting, but the people are also coming out of hibernation so that's why second.
Weekend was 3/5. Spent it sewing fresh velcro onto wristguards for skating classes. Also spent it listening to lofi, so not a total loss.

Short term, you can just scoop some water out of the tank, and pour it right back in. The surface agitation is what oxygenates the water. Or, if you can still get fresh temp matched water, do a small water change using a jug, same idea but fresher water to compensate for the filter being off too.
Edited to say, depending on how long the water is off, and what your fish load is, you'd want to do it regularly, at least several times a day.
When I got my first betta, I purchased some kit, it was an 8 gallon hexagon and it came with all of these plastic plants and the fruity pebbles. I got her from Petco and she she had really bad fin rot, swim bladder, she would just sink. I found her dead in a plastic plant the next morning and I felt so fucking bad. I instantly started looking into betta aquariums and learned about cycling and everything. I felt so goddamn bad. I instantly returned the tank set and bought a proper tank (a 20 gal), Fluval Stratum, tons of live plants, a Fluval light and filter and an AquaTop heater. I purchased a test kit and cycled my tank completely before getting a new betta and tetras and Corydoras. My point is that you can educate and people will likely fix it. If not, then yeah, they’re terrible. But give them a chance at least, damn.
My favorite season is definitely spring just because It’s the start of the growing season for my bonsai trees and I get to design and trim them.

I just moved from Colorado to Virginia. So, all I've been doing is unpacking. Spring is my favorite for a couple reasons. My birthday (April 9th). Also because it's not too hot, not too cold and I'm one of those lucky humans who can enjoy the flowers without horrible allergies. 🌷🌸🌹🥳🌻🌼🏵️
I think if I saw a Betta in a bowl at a restaurant I would leave a paper saying: "My ammonia is high and nitrate are soaring, I'm gonna die by tomorrow morning!" Lol I thought that was a good poem to make up :]

i have to say my favourite season would be fall, but i've never actually experienced it. the seasons work differently here, the one i enjoy most would be the rainy seasons. i'm not into aquascaping, but you're pretty neat and i enjoy watching your videos during the week!

When I stopped by my friends house, I noticed that his sister's fish tank was on the side of the road. It was so dirty that an electric sander couldn't clean it! It was so bad that her plastic plants died, and there not even alive!
Thanks for asking how we are doing chris 😭💜 i am hanging in there, recently diagnosed with mega-rare connective tissue disease with a lupus power-up. 😩 its pretty painful. i have been struggling to clean my freshwater & saltwater tanks because i get so dizzy when i stand up & bend down . Poor fishies :( hopefully they wont rip…. Anyways, love u fft community
So sorry to hear that you're struggling. Smaller water changes more often, maybe? I keep a couple of small water jugs around, and sometimes just do a jug or two out of a tank, then top back up, then on to the next, for my smaller tanks (rinsing the jug with hot water in between to help prevent transfer of anything icky). It isn't a substitute for a big water change, but can buy a little time. I either prep one big bucket of clean water for all the refills, or add a couple drops of conditioner to each jug as I go along. I don't know how complicated it is to prep the water for saltwater tanks though.
Years ago I went to a coffee shop that had a tank built into the wall above your head going all the way around the room. It was not very tall or deep but it created kind of a racetrack for the fish. It was saltwater. If I had that tank I would do it freshwater planted and put vals in there for sure.

Setting up breeder tanks for my ghost shrimps, they’re all pregnant, for my dwarf rainbows, gold neon barbs, and my favorite, the colony of colombian ramshorn breeders I ordered😩 And setting up a plant only tank besides the piranha tank. It’s getting sus doing maintenance with my fingers in their tank😂

Just came across your channel yesterday and i’ve been binge watching and realized i wasn’t subscribed. so subscribed and love your videos! my favor season is Spring and fall. when then temp is supposed to be mild. not too hot and not too cold. i don’t mind wearing a sweater but hate having to bundle up and barely being able to move. don’t like summer or winter 😅
5 tank real plants and realstic gravel is all you need for a happy enviornment plus declorinated water, lights, and food is all you need for a happy betta

I love a cold winter or a warm summer so I’m a bit of an opposite. In summer I would say the worst thing is when I go on a walk and get swarmed by flies after all I’m in Australia.

Concerning the first betta scenario- a lot of these people don’t want to learn. Years ago I worked at a chain pet store and when I tried to educate people or try to persuade them not to buy certain things, they’d ignore me. In the age of the internet, there is NO excuse to neglect and abuse pets. Common sense says to research before you get a pet. Dude is just lazy and wants bettas as home decor, thus his “tanks” deserved roasting.
