That first tank reminds me of a lot of the Japanese aquascaping scene on Instagram. I see a lot of tanks I could only dream of making but stocked horribly. I tend to lean on assuming the water chemistry is good and the overstocking or poor stocking is just causing isses of space and maybe stress rather than death due to poor water conditions.
For example the other day I saw probably a 10gal with a dozen gobies in it.

The scape is a solid 5/5 but that stocking is worse than 0/5. Even without the discus & the shark, I feel like the tank is wayy to overstocked. Someone with those aquascaping skills should be knowledgeable enough to do better or at least have the decency to inform themselves what kind of stocking they can do.

As long as that discus and shark are in there just for grow out I think it’s ok. Ive seen some discus do ok on their own. That being said It would still be better to get the discus a larger tank and some homies and the bala shark probably should be moved out of there ASAP judging by its size.

Dart frog would most definitely drown. They should only have very low water. This is because darts do not have the skin in between their toes and thus cannot swim well. They will panic and drown. Some specific individuals would probably do ok but vast majority would probably drown. Also they climb, even just straight glass. Meaning that in that enclosure they would either die of drowning or because they got out and became frog jerky.

  • @HarryBermuda

Not only is it not ideal stocking choices. But surely those different species don't ALL tolerate the same conditions. Some of them have to be stressed from parameters AND tank mates.

That first tank is a prime example of rich people hiring an aquascaper. Crazy I know but you can hire people here in Australia and they'll design and setup a beautiful tank for you. Then some peanut with more money then sense goes and fills with terrible stock ideas. I've seen a guy who posts regularly in a aquascaping page explain situations where he's really not comfortable with stocking ideas of his customers but they flat out ignore him.

The tank ( 125 litres or 33 gallons ) has 3 rock formations ( one has like 10-12 holes ) and fake plants. As well as some floaters. It has a big canister filter and an internal filter as well as some crushed coral substrate. All ( minus the pleco, the fry and the snail ) are between 2-3 inches so not full grown but in the future they might need a 4 foot tank ( current one is 28 inches long ) but depending on their adult size and tge time it takes ( don't forget that mbuna need overstocked tanks ) I may have to look for a second hand 4 foot

I really like Easy Green. Here’s how you know if you need Easy Iron, or just an iron supplement: If your new leaves look pale, but with green veins, you probably need more iron. Adding too much will cause black beard algae so be careful! I noticed the new leaf of my anubias looking kinda pale and adding Easy Iron helped my plants look properly green again! If I don’t add any for a while the new growth starts looking pale again, so that’s how I know it worked.

You have inspired a new branch of passion projects on my tree of ideas a new idea on if I had the money... roughly the idea is enclosed life systems starting out with microbes how to sustain them then under water plants after seeing what would be required for that see how complex the balance of more complex life being added I believe are collective knowledge on biodomes and enclosed ecosystems along with are ability to detect the levels required for life control I've always had an interest but this puts a nice bow on this field of intrest to further an answer my question an beliefs

i actually made homemade food for my crested gecko. took a lot of research to make sure everything had enough calcium and not too much of this one acid that makes it hard for them to absorb calcium. had to get spirulina, bee pollen, and dried flowers off amazon to add to it. then i just blended up a bunch of fruits and veggies, the aforementioned stuff from amazon, and some dubia roaches, crickets, and horn worms. my crestie was always hit or miss with premade food, but he went crazy for the homemade stuff. i just put it into ice cube trays and froze it, also used it for gutloading crickets, worms, and roaches for my frog

When I see these terrible aquariums I can’t help but think about my poor dad who got super into the fish keeping hobby, eventually moved into salt water and had an insanely massive corner tank with everything you’d want in there, probably spent thousands of pounds over the years he had that tank. One day he comes home with some new rock from the fish store and it goes in the tank and when we come downstairs the next day it is fish genocide, everything is dead, all his crazy expensive fish and even the coral looked awful and sick. He was so upset that he gave it up entirely and these people get away with keeping fish in cocktail glasses or Tupperware SMH

Idk, we can't see from the video of that first tank if they fish are stressed or aggressive. Only someone who watches the tank longer term (a few hours at least) can confirm if the fish are having a bad time, being aggressive, stressing out, etc. Judging by the limited info we have they're healthy, not fighting, no nipped fins that I see. I'm presuming the tank has balanced water parameters, in which case there can be outliers that do remarkably well in less than ideal environments, as we've seen by many older fish living under insane conditions. Should they probably have more space? Yeah. Are they probably OK in that tank at least for now? If they're not showing obvious signs of stress or fighting, also yeah.

Hi Chirs. I hope you're able to read this because you said something in the video that struck a chord.
I joined Petscord a few months ago because I like FFT and FTR and would like to share my tanks progression but instead of enjoying my stay there, I was ganged up by tank size queens and told what I was doing is wrong and stupid. I have since deleted my account. People in there kept providing condescending advice, not even reading the description in my posts and just providing advice I am not inclined to follow as it goes against everything that has worked for me.
I hope people will listen to your words about providing empathic advice rather than pushing their need to be right.

I was thinking about this question I wanted to ask u about . I have done a few scapes but always tend to change them after 6 months or so not because I get bored of em but because something else interests me more . I have noticed a few aquascapers who do that as well like MD but then u also have many who dont change much . Have u never been tempted to change the scape of the cube tank like sure the plants are very well settled and the tank is perfectly balanced but doesn't the "Into the forest" look tempt u at all . It is a slightly complex scape but I would always be tempted to make a path surrounded by some tall wood going deep into the forest in a cube tank .
