Using your hands is very similar to using a net. As long as your hands are wet and you aren’t purposely rubbing the fish and such, there really isn’t much issue. Majority of people out catching fish like bettas, rasboras, and so on use their hands to pick them up and put them in the container after catching them with a net. They aren’t damaged as long as there’s water.
This video obviously looks kind of sus though. Piling up the fish like that? No reason to do it at all other than stressing out the fish.

    • @apss5736
      @apss5736 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Yeah in particular with fish like fancy goldfish its rather common to gently hold them but this youtuber literally piles neon tetras, chucks swordtails in a vase with no water whilst roughly plonkin them in the tank. They mistreat them and unnecessarily remove them from the water for the video

Hi Chirs! I just wanted to thank you for your amazing channel and all the hard work you do! I have been a freshwater hobbyist for over a decade, but I had to give up my tanks because of serious health issues and I got really depressed and kinda gave up for a while, until I started watching FTR! Your videos kept me going throughout a very long treatment process. Now I'm cycling a new 20G and today I've just accepted a job as an Aquatics Specialist at a pet store!!
I can't thank you enough for all the inspiration & motivation you give to your audience. I don't know if I would have returned to my favorite hobby without this channel. You are wonderful!!

I was in a video call with my aunt, and she told me her betta died. She blamed the betta for being sick. When I asked to see the tank it amazed me. She kept it in a vase that wasn't even half a gallon big, aside from the random leaves inside for decoration. I confronted her and the excuse I got was that Bettas like shallow water, but I can promise you that thing barely had any water. Idk, I just think it's funny that people believe whatever they can about Bettas.

I had a couple fish deaths recently, but that gave me the excuse to pare down on my tanks a bit. I'm going to get a 20 gallon soon, and I'm redoing the hardscapes in my tanks.

That first video. Got the best of me. I recently had my first Betta pass away and while I admit I was not the best abd did everything to provide her a good life in a good planted tank, I guess I did not do enough research to keep her alive. I'm willing to learn and redo the process to see another future fish of mine live happier and longer but man...seeing that person just hold them up like that. :(

Call me crazy but I actually really like the topfin basic hob filters. I can nearly shove as much in them as an aquaclear and they are quiet and have not burned-out yet while my aquaclear did. I have one in my room and wish it was louder because I like to fall asleep to rain sounds.

  • @mikesmith-wk7vy
    @mikesmith-wk7vy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes they did make the quiet flow quieter. That’s all my dad ever uses and his new 30gal sized one is much quieter than his old 60 or 40 models. They work for quarantine tanks but my problem with them is you can’t get any media but the tiny bag in them so you don’t get much filtration compared to an aqua clear or tidal hob

Hi! Ok I’m going to sound really dumb right now but I need some help. A little back story: I got a beta fish a couple of years ago and we had a live plants and he loved them. He lasted a long time but then he sadly past away and then I got a new Betta fish. I got live plants just as we did the first time. However, something weird happened. Now, my new betta fish had always been calm. And my new live plants had made the water cloudy and my betta fish seemed the same though. I thought everything was fine so I did t think much of it. However, he started acting even slower and wouldn’t eat. So I took him out of the tank and put him in a smaller tank and he did better. I thought it was because he was overwhelmed with his new large tank so I put him back into the original tank thinking he’ll be better. Anyway, he died a few days later and turns out the plant had a diseases and I apparently did not clean it properly. I decided to get a different fish after a few months. I want to give him the best habitat possible and this is where I’m gonna sound dumb. I want to give him a natural habitat with live plants but when I first got him I decided just to get silk plants because I really do not want to get him sick. Now that he’s been in my tank for a few months and is doing good I think it’s time to get live plants. Does anyone have a good live plant cleaning routine and does anyone have live plant suggestions for a goldfish.

In the spirit of doing research in order to provide proper care for our pets, I challenge you to looking into letting Millie have her flight feathers back! Wing clipping is the bird care version of a goldfish bowl with rainbow gravel.. it’s outdated, and harmful in regards to both physical and mental health. Flight training, on the other hand, is a wonderful way to bond with your bird, encourage proper exercise, and ensure their safety in our homes and in case of escape 😊 There are many less intrusive, mutually beneficial ways to manage behavior and ensure safety!

You can always use actual nature around you in your freshwater aquariums. All the rocks I have are from streaming. Drop some nitrate liquid on the rock and if it bubbles up. No bubbles means no calcium and you should be good to go as they are inert. Wood is bit more tricky. If you know what type of wood it is then you know what you're working with. Why not try growing some of the plants in your area that are by water. Recreate nature from found nature not bought nature. Later replant some new ones from your tank from where you got the original. Keep the chain moving forward.

Ok Chris here's my question.. I have a 40 gallon tank, fully live planted with anubis, Java fern and moss with some nice tall hornwort, my own personal rocks that I've boiled and tested for the tank. However I have a small sorority of 3 bettas, and 2 dwarf gouramis and a nice school of 9 neon tetras, both female as well, a petsmart employee said would be fine if I had the room for it and also my own fault for not researching as much as I could have, so I thought the inch per gallon rule and went with that. I haven't had any problems what so ever but after watching your tank reviews I'm really questioning if they should be together at all regardless of having no issues or aggression, not even with feeding. It's my first tank and I really want to do right by my animals I've had them both for just under 6 months now. Do you think I should rehome them?

My birthday is today and on Saturday we celebrated and even got new fish for my 45 gallon community tank since we got hit by a bad cold snap I left the lights on all night to give a little more warmth just incase. In the morning when I woke up I saw all my fish were at the top of the tank and even my pleco that never comes out went to the top for some air, then I knew something was wrong. I looked closer at my tank and my fluval fx6 filter was somehow not disturbing the surface enough. I lost three 4 fish a zebra danio, a red tail shark, a red eye tetra, and later on that day i found that a leopard danio had gotten out of the tank and originally like at least it's no new fish but of course the leopard danio had to change that.

It's funny because I absolutely need the white noise to sleep, otherwise I can't. Like I'm such a light sleeper that if I hear anything out of the ordinary I'm jolted awake and the tanks block the noise. Blackouts are painful as the silence gets super loud and high pitched. The tank that's closest to me is a Fluval spec v and that tank is silent. The water flow is silent and the filter I can only hear if I shove my ear against the tank. My other tank has a silent motor but loud water trickling but I love it. Recently added a retired 10 gallon and stocked it with crickets to add to the white noise.

One of these days, I'll rig up a system to keep them out of the way, but for now I prop them up awkwardly or have them half hanging off the edge of the tank, and they fairly often fall in when I'm trying to do maintenance. Luckily, so far no fish have been hurt as a result, just startled and scared. 😬

I have my tank next to my bed and I am a VERY light sleeper, doesn't bother me a bit with my setup! used to have issues but no more for my 75 gal tank and my 40 gal breeder, here is what I did:
Get a GREY tetra whisper brand 10-30 gal air pump (with legs, not a cube); or multiple is you need more air. DO NOT get the larger ones, they are loud (walmart usually has it last I saw) The blue ones are loud that sell at most stores and annoying for some odd reason.... don't ask me why the grey are quiet and blue are not. Sometimes you get an odd one out of the grey that is loud, out of my 5 I have owned only 1 got loud after a few years....weird. Also put them on a sufficiently sized sponge isolated UNDER the tank in the stand and that significantly quiets them down as well. If you need more than 1 air pump or say you do more than a single air sponge filter (I do that too) you get multiple of the 10-30 gal pumps and do one pump for each filter. Don't be tempted to get a single larger air pump..... its too loud. having multiple gets enough air for the tank and keeps the noise down. There, your welcome!
what I did for my 7g gal is Get a mattenfilter with its own pond pump that self starts and is quiet (had to fiddle with mine and unplug and replug it in sometimes to quiet it down, it wasn't instantly silent) and connect it to a tube to take the water up and out and connect it to a spray bar to the other side of the tank to help with circulation and keep the water level close to the spray bar holes so it doesn't splash much, keeps things clean and I have an airstone hidden behind a log for extra air.
    Good luck to you!

i feel so bad right now, my mom got me 2 goldfish in a small bowl and i honestly thought it was fine because this is what we learned growing up and were never taught what was actually right. i love them but after researching looking at them makes me feel a sad guilt and i dont have enough to get the appropriate tank :(

idk the first clip I can defend 'cause it's just using hands instead of a net to put them in.
Also, the gouramis' appendages look like they can get stuck in net holes.
but yea it's bad if they were taking a lot of time doing this to make the perfect shot.
when the gouramis are dumped though, a lot of debris came out so maybe they came straight out of the bag/net

Wait Milly is a girl ? I always thought the orange on her cheeks were too bright for her to be a girl but well I guess I was wrong . Also the first guy , im pretty sure he is one of the most skilled aquascapers but the worst fishkeeper because I had seen another vid of his where he had hundreds of shrimp added to the tank in an empty glass vessel . So yeah instead of the hands a glass pot with a lid at the bottom which he would slide off to have a flush of shrimps falling into the beautiful tank ! I always thought
    WHY .
Edit: Oh wait the orange is not that bright Im dumb asf xD

I had a 30-40 gallon tall tank with built in HOB filter in the hood. Does that still count as HOB? Anyways it was loud and I jerry rigged it with plastic strips to drop the water in more gracefully because it was right next to the bed and I like to keep very small fish who don't want that intense flow. Never once did the sound bother me. I'm a heavy sleeper and the noise actually helps me sleep because my old roommate used to stay up all night playing games with friends so I had to get used to light and sound while trying to go to bed. My fiancé hates it though lol

I got new shrimp for my 20 gal in December and they disappeared, I only see 2- 3 a day and even when picking up the wood, lava rock or decor, there are no shrimp, I have a female betta, tetras and corys and the Params are fine, I also looked in the filter and there are none in there, are they inside the lava rock? I never saw a dead shrimp floating in my tank, what’s wrong? Are they hiding well? Also, I was told bettas are fine with shrimp in one of my fish discords, a few people said if I have good hiding spots then it’s fine, and I have millions of hiding spots, my lava rock has so many holes and tunnels

Aquascaping pet peeve: nice natural looking chunks of woodscape that are completely sawed off flat at the top at a 90 degree angle 😤

dwarf gouramis aren't aggressive in the first place, so it wouldn't matter how many there are, if they were the big ass gouramis it wouldn't be to good though

I wanted to just have a 10 gallon tank with one female betta. & I now have 5 tanks 👀🥴 due to thrifty shopping. I ended up getting 2 of the tanks with fish already in it & they weren’t the ideal fish I wanted but I feel like it’s my responsibility to take care of these fish I have adopted.

Gaurami are very hardy... At least my giant ones are... They don't care for water quality... Or aquatic plants.. They just munch on water lettuce like its lays... So... 1000litre sump and a giant box of hydroton beads for the filtration... Doing aquaponics in it now for the nitrate export..

I personally think transporting fish wiht your hands can be a good thing . Nets can be rough fish, whereas your hands are softer, as long as they are wet before you touch the fish their slime coats should be okay. Now idk id its okay to lift that many at once tho.

Are we exposing birds now? My cockatoo hated specifically burger King cups and would try to kill them on sight. I couldnt drink a Pepsi in peace
He also used to try to bully my cats and I would have to stop him from trying to run across the floor and kill them whenever they'd sneak into his room and if I didn't let him kill them (I didn't) he would scream at them and then me. He also had to go to bed at 7 sharp or else he'd start breaking things, and he'd tell you too! He'd go "goodnight." And you'd better have listened to him

I think a bigger problem is we still call it a hobby. Fish aren't a hobby ANIMALS AREN'T A HOBBY they are a lifestyle. if you can't take proper care of them then don't bother because people hear hobby and buy small tanks. something to start off with instead of going all out like you should with ANIMALS. It's not a hobby its a lifestyle.
