    The marine betta is also called Comet sometimes, it is a very characterful fish you can breed in captivity. That is a large plus in my eyes, and they also have the ability to mimmick a moray eel with it's backside to scare off predators.
    The only downside to the fish is that He gets relatively large with 8 inches, 55 gallons(210 liters) is minimum Tank size.

      Wait are most saltwater fish wild caught? You said that like most of the saltwater fish in the hobby cannot be captive bred. I know very little about salt water. I don't have the knowledge and more importantly the money to drive into that world yet.

    • @badassmofo3081
      @badassmofo3081 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aaronburkeen6409 a lot of saltwater fish and especially inverts are wild caught, not many people outside the hobby know. Sometimes scientists or very determined hobbyists get tiny batches bred of some fish but by far not enough to sarisfy the market so it is still very profitable to catch them in the wild.
      Some evergreens like oscellaris clowns are easily breedable by now thankfully, finding Nemo almost made them go extinct.

    • @aaronburkeen6409
      @aaronburkeen6409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@badassmofo3081 I guess I just never thought about it. But now that I do it makes sense. Saltwater fish behavior is more complex than alot of freshwater fish kept in the hobby. Good to know. When I do try saltwater I will be extra careful with my stocking. I do not support wild caught at all. Also what does evergreen mean in this context?

    • @badassmofo3081
      @badassmofo3081 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaronburkeen6409 with evergreens I mean those fish that are readily available abd really popular. For freshwater the betta or neon tetra would be fine examples fir evergreens imo.
      With salt water fish I would be careful too, though some fish are just so tempting if I had a big enough tank...
      For captive bred fish I can suggest the oscellaris clown fish, they have nice color morphs too if the orange guy is too boring for you. Something rather rare in salt water, there are by far not as many color morphs as in fresh water.
      Another fish I can recommend is gobiodon citrinus, the poison goby. It's such a smart, cute and funny fish to have a pair of and they can breed in captivity. Also the Bangai Cardinal is also a ethically nice fish because they are mostly captive bred.
      With inverts you have a tougher time gettibg your hands on captive bred ones, almost everything commercially interesting comes from the sea. Though you won't need that many and as far as I know many populations are stable, some evergreens there are Emerald crabs, sexy shrimp, various snails.
      With algae snails I can recommend stomatella snails because those actually breed in tanks too.

    Marine bettas are usually around 150-200 dollars where I am. They're very beautiful and peaceful (though they are carnivores), which is very nice because they can be reef compatible. The only major difference I see aside from the saltwater aspect is marine bettas need a lot more room than freshwater bettas. At least 50 gallons is ideal for them. They can get around 8 inches long.

    8:45 is Taiwan Lily. I have so many in my 50 gal. Large leaves that fall off/break off can actually sprout roots and I have lots of baby plants that float around. Very nice plant and can grow very tall. My first version was just three and small (I was worried they would die -nope)

    That vase reminded me of something. I’m a petsmart pet care person and this person came in while me and manager were having a nice chats about betta’s and the customer asked something about bettas and I answered his question accurately but then he went to say that “my mom and like 20 *VASES* all with bettas”. My manager goes “oh okay :)” while my jaw had dropped in horror. Nobody could see it bc of my mask but my heart dropped for all those poor betta’s

    • @aaronburkeen6409
      @aaronburkeen6409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Horrible fish abuse aside this is a big waste of money. Betta fish are like 10 to 20 or more per. Which means it was 200 dollars atleast probably more like 400 or 500 just to buy the fish. Then you have the vases which could be free but I doubt this person just had 20 vases laying around. After that you have all of the decorations they probably have in there too. So I am going estime about 800 to 1,000. All that money going to fish abuse. Instead of proper fish care. What a waste life and money.

    What should the question of the week be called? idk, it's a FISHtery.
    All terrible jokes aside, that might actually be an aquarium banana plant, rather than tiger lotus. I have the two of them side by side in one of the tanks I'm preparing to escape, and the leaves definitely have similar shape/energy, but can be SUPER green. Emerald green. CRYSTAL green. But also sometimes they can get red on them, but we're not talking about that.

    One of the factors that explain why the gem tang is soo expensive is the cost of transport.
    The islands they come from are soo isolated that bringing specimens alive and well to a facility where they are then shipped is extremely costly since the only animal that comes from said islands is just the gem tang.
    Overall is just a normal yellow tang but black with white spots. Still, a wonderful fish that is a nice addition to a reef tank and that needs to be bred in captivity to lower that heavy price.

    Just a suggestion for any new aquarium starters. Don't get live bearers, otherwise you will be go from 3 fish to 50 fish in a couple months, and the pet store won't take the babies.

    • @discordiacreates6669
      @discordiacreates6669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correction: don't get livebearers if you don't research how to tell males from females first, adult guppies are the easiest for newbies to tell apart on sight and livebearers are generally hardier then other fish, so actually a great option done right. True though that many LFS won't be too thrilled if you do breed them accidentally, so if you can't tell the diff between males and females of a species or don't wanna research it first, an easier to keep egg layer is definitely a good option since most are picky about water parameters for egg laying or they eat their own eggs, so if breeding isn't your goal that's good

That one is probably just new to the tank and the flow may be a bit high but also it probably will lean the parts of the tank that suit it’s habits better. Sadly they are very shy fish and mostly noctournal.

    Goldfish love duckweed. They're pond pigs, they'll eat anything. They're about the only tank that will never have a problem with duckweed.

    The scrap acrylic tank looks like a sump on the back. Why not just use that space for tank XD

    ok, my goldfish spawned the other day, considering they SHOULD be a few months too young you can imagine how much of a surprise that was, unfortunatly because it was unexpected the goldfish ate the eggs before i was able to sort one of my quarantine tanks out to house the eggs
    when we bought them pets at home said they were about 3 or 4 months old, that means they are about 8 months old at most now

    • @ariannathatdawg3400

      They could have spawned early depending on how big they are, fish don't care if they legal or not ngl

    Animals can survive in a small cage but thrive in an appropriate space. Like people

    • @peggedyourdad9560

      Yep, technically a dog could survive being kept in a large crate for its whole life, but I’m sure everyone here would agree that keeping a dog like that is animal Cruelty. This is basically what people who keep their fish in a tiny ass bowl/cup/vase are doing but it’s somehow ok because “they’re just fish”, it doesn’t make sense.

    I love my little bit of black beard in my tanks. My betta lives in a vase, but it's fully planted, started as pure walstad, but now has a small filter and heater, for flow and to keep the temperature right for the betta.

    Isn't that "betta" a Plesiopidae of some sort? And yeah, I guess I can see it resembling in the dark. Seems to move a bit faster than an average betta though, but it might just be cause it is hunting in this video. Cute, but I would not get one. Salt water seems to be way too much faff for my sake. I'll probably settle for a bristlenose and some snails if I get a tank again. Maybe a adopted betta if I stumble over one living in a cup somewhere.

    You think that's bad?
    I saw someone on tiktok who has no idea how to care for fish, went to a fair with her friends, got 3 GOLDFISH, and put them in a vase and the bottom was probably as big as a wine glass. Only filled I'd say 1/6 of the way. These goldfish were like, on TOP of each other. When she put them in she was like "omg look they're so cute and happy"
    girl they're half dead-
    and then she never made another video abt them.
