- Luna the German Shepherd dog meets Cheeto the raccoon for the first time. At first luna was apprehensive of a new critter, but look how well they get along in the end! The cats weren't quite as fond of the raccoon.

@M 40 Cheeto is brave, cute and mainly, very intelligent. Just watch the videos: "My pet raccoons meet for the first time." (absolutely lovely, how Cheeto investigates Tito and how Tito behaves as a tolerant, peaceful gentleman). The other video I love is where "Cheeto learns to swim." While Tito swims using hand strokes only, Cheeto discovered that using all 4 of his legs is more efficient. And in this last video I love the captions under the actions. Overall, I love Cheeto very much.

The dog was like this thing looks like me until it grabbed my leg.
We had a family of 4 racoons that would come up on our deck and the 3 babies would stand up and look through the door glass into the house. You have to get used to the paw prints and routine wipe down. Once they got used to me being on the deck at the same time, they would touch my bare feet with their front paws as if to feel what this bare, furless flesh was. Then they'd nose into me as if to get a sense of what this new thing smelled like. It was the same when I'd hold out food. They'd rake their paws across my fingers to take the food into their mouths and often smell my hand before taking the food. You can see it's part of their learning process and not really any different than ours.

Without them, you wouldn't have anything regarding heard animals. Dogs can also be trained to respond if someone is having a medical emergency. Dogs can also protect and guard property both commercial and private. Cats can not do any of those things.

From experience with several dogs in my life, I know that a lot of puppies are reaaaally energetic, especially the larger dogs. They can play really rough sometimes, but that roughness is only a sign of affection and that the dog enjoys playing with the other animal/person. I wasn't so sure about Cheeto, but later on he seemed to be enjoying it too.
Side note: Raccoons (to me) are like a hybrid of monkeys and dogs. Which is like, my ideal pet.

Puppies can be exhausting and even run old dogs to injury or aggressiveness...people need to monitor accordingly. Especially big puppies around old or small animals.

Since I was a small child, I've been fascinated about how different kinds of animals can get along, considering the circumstances of course. In this video, I'm impressed with the photography. I know that was not an easy task. You stuck with it for hours. And, I love your cat, who was definitely in charge.

@Phantom Alpha I know you love cats and all but no CAT can beat a bulldog, Caucasian shepherd or German shepherd. I am talking about cats and dogs people own. Bringing up that they branch out from larger and stronger species doesn't increase their strength or size. Yes, cats tend to be more aggressive and have faster reflexes but many dogs can bite off half a cats body in one bite. And you mentioning them scratching an eye out will only happen when a big dog isn't on guard. I can guarantee you a cat wouldn't even risk jumping for the eye if a bulldog opened their mouth.

I don't think he was stroking Luna. I think he was just holding her back without using much pressure. It's what we did when introducing our 2 cats. I just kept my hand on the older cat's back to keep her still.
He was only holding Luna back not praising her. Be more observant! 🙂

It's is great how the mom was able to calm Luna down so she did not keep barking, then Luna learning to feel relaxed enough to play with the pet racoon...all this in a few minutes. They will be best friends forever.❣️
Brings back memories when I rescued a racky. Smart animals... sweet.. very smart but can be touch if need be. I used to take my bay down the street for walks... one day a big snarly dog came barking at me and ran at me off of his property,,, until he saw the racky between my feet, ass out and tail all fluffed out..... I wish you could of heard that dog trying to stop and backpedal home at the same time. I can guarantee you, he didn't need much of a nail trim after that !!

Use a firm voice when you are telling the pup no and don't pet her when you are doing it. I understand wanting to be gentle but you really have to use a different tone of voice and action.
This is dumb unlike what most people believe just like humans most dog's are unique there's no right or wrong way to race a pup (aside from you know obiusly terrible stuff) just cause this doesn't work on some dog's doesn't mean it wont work on any
I have a goldender retriever and I never yelled or scolded her once the the most I've ever done is pat and softly tell her no just like that and she's extremely well behaved
Now grated she's naturally very well behaved but the one time I did have some behavior problems (When she saw cats she chased after them which is a problem cause there are a LOT of cats in my area)
I softly told her no over and over again ever time we saw a cat and in a week she was perfectly calm with them

Most animals are "uncomfortable" when they're first introduced to other animals, but they set up boundaries & form bonds. They'll most likely end up becoming life long buddies. Animals aren't as fragile as you think, they experience "uncomfortable" situations, and they adapt. You're acting like Cheeto was placed in room with a full grown Shepard, and is fighting for his life or something. His owner isn't incompetent, like you seem to think.
