Raccoons usually paw their food. Some researchers believe they have poor eyesight and “see” their food with their hands.

Raccoons have the most sensitive sense of touch of any known animal, over 2/3rds of its brain’s sensory processing power are dedicated to its sense of touch while its hands have over 10 times the number of nerve endings as the human hand. They are also thought to be colorblind or at least poor at distinguishing color.
They’re a heck of a lot more civil than anyone in my house, when presented with a lovely charcuterie board! The typical raccoon examination of every item is adorable!

Man this was so fascinating. I thought for sure they would go for the pepperoni or salami but they barely touched it. I always thought raccoons preferred meat but these guys preferred fruit and nuts.
This video is actually pretty accurate to a wild raccoons diet. They are omnivores. But they are considered opportunistic omnivores. Their primary diet consists of nuts, fruits, etc. IF they can get some meat, they will in order to not starve. But these raccoons are not starving. If raccoons do consume animal products, their preference tends to be eggs as that is the easiest form of animal protein for them to sneak.
Pepperoni and salami are so processed I'm not surprised.
Probably too salty. That one seemed to be scraping the salt off the crackers before eating them.
I think they like crunchy stuff.
I think you should put a small bowl of water. They use water for their sensors in their paws. It helps them identify food easier. It softens their skin on the paws so they can tell what the food is.
oh yes, they know. I think they might've talked about why they don't give them water, not sure though. another thing is most of the foods that they eat would disintegrate in water as well lol
I give my guy peanuts and he knew exactly what to do, first time, no water necessary but if it's there, they'll use it.

Took me a moment to realize he was washing the cracker, to get the grit off, like they do in the creek to wash off sand. So cute. Later he decided this grit was okay. He tasted some from his hand.

Tito my guy you’re channel is great. I discovered you a few months before tito got lost and watched for a few months after. I recently thought of this channel again because i was sitting out next to a fire and i had a raccoon come up and i fed it some of the chips i had with me. Every time i come to this channel my mood gets better from before and its just amazing. Fascinating how the raccoon plays with its food before sampling it. Rolling grapes between its paws, or turning the cracker on the marble table top before biting in to it.

Great enrichment for them. Maybe you could see what other fruits they like and see if they like homemade nut butters (use a food processor, a tiny bit of salt and oil of choosing) and pulse (and pull) at various stages of smoothing to creamy peanut butter stage. And of course pair with more (plain but various types of) yogurt.
