Hey folks! Happy people are enjoying the spec trailer! Just to clarify: this is a fan work. I do not distribute Macross Plus, and have no control over the Macross property. I’m just a fan who loves making trailers. Please check the description for details on where to buy the series (OVA and the Movie). Cheers!
True, but there was a bit of cgi used in Plus. A lot more was used in Zero though. Not much of a fan of cgi. Akira showed all of us that CGI is not needed and it doesn't hold a candle to hand drawn.
The incredible pain of trying to frame by frame a vhs tape to count the missiles fired off during the “I bought you lunch” exchange. Kids these days will never know the struggle.
I used to day dream about recreating dog fights and the Itano Circus in blender after seeing Macross Frontier in 2008, but never got the hang of it. lol
This was a revelation when I saw it. The transforming mechs are just the backdrop for a character study of three friends and how their lives end up. The music was awesome. Santi-U. A Sai En. Some of my all time favorites!
By and far, my favorite Macross and the series that made me a fan of Yoko Kanno. I have almost the entire soundtrack on my comp..."Information High" being my personal fav.
My favorite Macross saga of all time! Even after three decades it still looks so amazing! Hopefully Brian Cranston's english dub is in Blu-ray collection as well.
One of the most powerful and inspirational animated works I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to watch this in theaters a couple years back. It was stunning on the big screen. Can't wait to own a copy now. Finally...
This turned me on to Yoko Kanno and anime OSTs in general and I just fell completely in love with them to this day. Songs from this are STILL in heavy rotation in my play list.
In actuality too. Go down the rabbit hole of finding out who sung for Sharon Apple in the film, and it's exactly like the film. If I'm not mistaken, it was performed by Yoko Kanno and wasn't credited in the film despite composing the entire soundtrack.
This was the first DVD I ever bought after my dad came home with a DVD player in the early 2000s. Will definitely be picking up the Blu-ray! Love this OVA so much.
Damn man I remember watching this off a bootleg VHS back in the day that was how you could find most anime. The fact its getting a remaster is awesome it was some of the best animation of its time and was my first experience of Macross.
One part that always stands out to me regarding detail is when they were dogfighting and it showed Isamu in the cockpit with his hands working the joystick/throttle and his legs working the rudder pedals. Perfection.
I first watched this on Teletoon, yes, I'm Canadian, and also have both, VHS, and DVD copies of this, and two of the soundtracks. One of my favourites. Take care, and all the best.
For everyone complaining about the price tag of this release: The way that All The Anime works is they often release collectors editions that come bundled with exclusives like art books and creator interviews first before releasing a standard edition later at a much cheaper price.
Could I purchase this and watch it on the US? I’m curious I’ve never really purchased international Blu-ray’s before so I’m not aware if I can or it’s region locked
@@rej3ktstudios986 Crunchyroll sold out. They can GFT. And by 'sold out' I mean they used to be a pirate site and now they are all of a sudden taking the Orwellian TH-cam adblocker route. Consume a satchel of Richards, Crunchyroll.
1 of the Pillars of early Anime - Macross Pluss, Ninja Scroll, and Ghost in the Shell...alongside gems like Street Fighter the Animated Movie - these still hold up better today than today's animations
French release in approach on few weeks👌🏻 One of the best anime masterpiece from 90's... Sad that the Macross licence was almost killed internationally by Harmony Gold.😢
They need to do an absolute version where they join the movie and the series together into one long movie since some scenes of the movie are not in the ova and vice-versa
back when I first saw this over 20 years ago I had a Handspring Palm device with an MP3 player add-on... I had two memory cards in it that gave me 96MB of storage.... there were a couple songs from this on that player lol
had it on VHS in the 90s.. but I guess that at that price, it's going to remain a "I had it", cuz 124 lbs is fricking nuts! That said, nice work on the Fan Trailer!
You actually had me genuinely curious if you did this officially! nice t oknow im not the only one who likes to do fan made trailers like this! Plus was my first exposure to Macross before i saw Robotech as a kid (despite never seeing Plus till adulthood) , Siren entertainment distributed it here in australia, so promos for PLUS where usually on their Astroboy tapes.
@@rej3ktstudios986 thanks man! though im mainly displeased with my older works. i feel like i havent really moved that far with my skills, kinda stuck using outdated editing programs, premier and resolve just look far too daunting imo.
The English lyrics are almost untenable, I have the original Yoko Kanno OST. I don't know of they kept the sub killer note in "A Sai En" On the OST there is low bass hit at 12 seconds. My copy of the CD has that but later presses apparently they dropped it. If they kept it in for film it's during the SDF's re-awakening.
Unless they did all 4 parts, AND then added the extra stuff from the move. Nope! the movie ditches some of the best scenes, and the parts don't have the great song at the end.
Is this a movie one can watch stand alone? It looks great. Just worried I might not understand what's going on if there's a whole bunch of back story that I need to catch up with.
Wait, what was the difference between the ova and the movie !? For SDF Macross season 1 the art difference from the movie hit you in the face like the Nimitz at flank speed but for Macross plus ?
Movie had some extra scenes that the ova didn't have. But moviev was way shorter than the ovas combined. Which means you miss a lot of the story beats from the ovas. Stick with ovas. It is much better.
Absolutely perfect, but why is there an english version of "voices" at the beginning ? Mostly considering you kept the original japanese dialogs (thanks for that BTW)
Long story short I liked the contrast. I was gonna cut it to the dub but changed my mind halfway through but wanted to keep the English version of voices as contrast to when I’d play the Japanese at the end.
@@rej3ktstudios986 Understood. It felt strange to me since the english version is nowhere to be heard in the Japanese version. It almost pull me out of it as a starter :-)

Thank you! It has been released on blu ray internationally! I’ve linked where you can buy the collections edition in the description : )
You have no idea how long I've wanted to see this trailer in HD. Thank you so much.
After 30 years, it's still perfect. One of the very few anime to be genuinely 10/10. Absolutely peerless.
It’s my favourite of all time = D
Especially considering only do you remember love comes close to it. Zero is ok, 2 was bad, but frontier is garbage and delta is even worse.
This.
Nothing beats the peak eras of hand-drawn animation.

“Itano Circus” if memory serves
I used to day dream about recreating dog fights and the Itano Circus in blender after seeing Macross Frontier in 2008, but never got the hang of it. lol
@@TheTongueofRa Macross 30 on the PS3 was the best for that sadly it wasn't localized
but I digress also VFX 2 on ps1 had those moments as well
This blew my mind in 1996 when I saw it. Remember renting it on VHS.
Often emulated but never surpassed. This was the peak of Macross.
FACTS
@@atonb117Definitely peaked with DYRL and Plus. Those 2 are great
I'd always hoped it would be surpassed but you are correct; it really was the pinnacle.
I would argue Do You Rememeber Love is the peak, but this is pretty close.

One of the master pieces of my generation. It was a great privilege to have seen it many times.
It’s my all time favourite anime = D
This movie and Ninja Scroll made me realize that i've been watching "cartoon" for kids
You really need to watch Akira and both Vampire Hunter D movies!
Its insane no matter how advanced our tech and ai gets nothing ever comes close to the animation drawn by hand from the 80s and 90s.
Akira is a prime example of that. There is really no modern Anime piece that holds a candle to it.
I like how the music faded between left and right speaker:)
The memories from 1996 came rushing back !!!
