Can confirm that the U4s don't sound any different from stock than when lubed, filmed, and both. Basically, the U4s are the best they'll be right out of the bag, so definitely saves you a lot of time/money.

Honestly, switch disassembly, lubing and reassembly, is the only part of keyboard modding I hate because of how long, tedious and incredibly boring it is, so this sounds like the perfect switch to me.

Another fun silent tactile to chek out is the Durock T1 Shrimp. Amazing tactility, nice price, pretty silent, and good both with and without lube, though with some occasional spring ping without lube. Also no stem or housing wobble at all.

  • @ryan29011

Just to confirm: Aliaz indeed use the same housing as some of the Zeal switches. A while back I did some digging, and the Aliaz, Zealios V2 variants, and Tealios V2 are all manufactured in the same factory. I haven’t tried any Aliaz myself, but bit strange how there’s a difference in the housing when it’s the same housing made in the same factory.

Can be one of many different issues. The tooling required to make the housings can get worn out after repeated use. The longer the tooling is used, the more loose the tolerances will be. Also, the material used to make the switch makes a difference as well.

I ordered some switches to test recently and absolutely love the boba U4's. They really caught me off guard. I only ordered one of them to test because my friend who knows barely anything about mech switches said he wanted something that felt like a cherry blue but sounded like a cherry red... Not to say that the Boba U4's fit either of those criteria, but they're probably as close to that as I could find for him to try.
It's worth noting that I am very new to the hobby too, but I'm now tempted now to order some Gateron milky blacks and some Boba U4's for my hot swap board. Not sure which one I'd prefer for long term use right now, but man the Boba's caught me off guard for sure.

I dunno what the hell you were typing on, because the Aliaz are far more silent than you give them credit for. I would definitely still recommend lubing with 3204 or 3203 and filming them with something like .125 or .15 films, but I haven't seen any housing wobble on mine, and the stem wobble is... it's there but it's inoffensive enough. I have the 60g version, the tactility isn't that bad. It's mid-bump by design, so you will get more pretravel than a Boba U4. I'd suggest swapping the springs for better springs in a 70g weighting just in the case of any spring ping.
It kind of feels like you're comparing apples to oranges with a sharper, top-bump tactile like the U4 being pitted against a softer, lighter-strength mid-bump tactile, and declaring the former to be better, presumably on account of preferring a sharper sense of tactility.

I just find the tactility of modern tactiles complete trash. The bump at the top end is ridiculous forcing you to bottom out always. Bobas are also so soft and mushy on bottom out that I sometimes doubt myself if I even got to the actuation point when hitting quick shortcuts. That said I am very used to the MX browns from back in the day when that was pretty much the best tactile one could get in a pre-built.
