Hey bro great vid, so for a 2013 g37 sedan automatic I have a 3.357 , so I should be looking for a 08 07 differential which has a 3.7? Sorry I wasn’t sure if I understood the video correctly
First, check to see if the pinion flange on your car has three bolts or four. It's probably a three bolt flange. What you'll have to do is swap the flange on the diff you buy with the one you currently have. You should be shopping for a diff from a manual transmission car. There aren't any differentials with the three bolt flange and the 3.69 gears. Swapping the flanges isn't very hard and a shop shouldn't charge you much to do it if you bring in both differentials to them.

Not unless you plan to upgrade to an aftermarket differential. The non-locking diffs are basically worthless. 3.7 gears are the most common and thus reasonably priced and easy enough to find. Good luck finding a 3.9 geared differential for less than $800-$1000. Watch the video through again, and it will guide you to the right differential.
So long as it's a 4 bolt from the output of the driveshaft to the diff, it'll bolt up. I have a 04 350z Touring and found a g35 sport sedan with that exact gearing (believe its auto with 4 bolts) and wondered if it will bolt up.
All Z/G differentials are exactly the same minus gear ratio, open vs vLSD, and input flange. The first two are a matter of choice. Just peak under your car to check the flange and match the shapes.
No, the rings are after the differential gear's effect on the car's speed; so, the car doesn't even know anything has changed. The sensor rings have the same number of teeth as before.
It depends om your budget and goals. It will provide better acceleration in each gear, but it may require an additional shift before crossing the 1/4 mile mark and your gas mileage will be slightly worse. The main disadvantage of the 3.9 is they are way more expensive as they are far more rare.
Bolted right in! Yes, raising the rev limit to 7,200 will allow you to use the gears more effectively assuming you have other breather mods. If the engine is completely stock, it won't like the high RPMs because the restrictions in the stock intake and exhaust will limit airflow up there. I would at minimum have a plenum spacer, K&N panel filter, and a Y pipe. High flow cars or test pipes would be a good add too before raising the rev limit.
Awesome. I'm going to go junkyard hunting this weekend then. I have front and rear diff bushings I wanted to install and a new bottle of fluid so I might as well!
@@350Z247 Alright after hours of searching I think I sourced one locally for ~$200. It is a 2011-2013 Infiniti G37 MT Locking RWD 3.692 carrier assembly. Judging by the chart it looks like it should be fine but I'm wondering why the older one is so much more expensive. Low mileage perhaps?
@@michaelt779 it just varies. People basically charge whatever they want for these. The only difference there might be is some of the diffs use nuts and bolts while some are tapped for the bolts.
Do I need to find a manual diff for my manual 05 350Z or can it be an auto 3.7 locking? I see that I can change the flange out but what diffs are compatible?
I tried swapping the input flange on the three bolt diff with my four bolt flange, but I couldn't get the preload right. I'd recommend getting one that matches your car. You have a 4 bolt circular flange.
@@350Z247 what do you mean when you're talking about the "preload". I found an AT locking 3.7 for too good of a price and have seen that people just changed the flange to make it work but the "preload" comment is the only thing holding me back atm. I know that you have to trim some of the pinion on top of changing the flange
@@nene6569 clearances on differentials are vital; if you don't know what preload is, you probably need to outsource the work. The amount of compression on the crush washer needs to cause a certain mount of drag on the pinion. If the tolerances are too lose or too tight, the diff will be noisy and possible cause damage. I would recommend waiting for a diff with the correct flange as you'll be investing in a fancy torque wrench or paying someone else to swap it
@@NSWvet83 unless you have the skill and equipment to properly set gear lash, tack on another few hundred bucks to get the new gears installed. I'd recommend waiting for a good deal. Took me 3 months before I found mine.
I have a 2006 350z DE 5at automatic. So would this be a 100% remove and replace? Or would other parts be need to be replaced for compatibility? Also would my car have 3 bolts or 4 on the pinon flange, and if so what cars 3.7gear would I need to be compatible with my number of bolts on the pinon?
You're going to have to crawl under there and look. You might be three bolt. If you're a three bolt, you have very limited options of the 08 G coupe and 07-08 G sedan automatic models with the locking differential. it will be a very long (like 8-12 weeks) search.
You should have the 4 bolt circular flange like I did which will accept any manual transmission diff. The later year automatics switched to a 3 bolt triangular flange. You can get a 3.5, 3.7, or 3.9.
I couldn't find a diff from a 07-08 G35S which is your best option. You can look on online junkyards or wait. @@QuikModsOBS in that case I would go 4.08 when you install an aftermarket LSD. The 3.9 is more expensive and not worth it to me. As you build the engine more, you can raise the rev limit to 7,200-7,500 to counter the 4.08 shortening the gears. The 3.7 is a good budget upgrade in the meantime.

It depends om your budget and goals. It will provide better acceleration in each gear, but it may require an additional shift before crossing the 1/4 mile mark and your gas mileage will be slightly worse. The main disadvantage of the 3.9 is they are way more expensive as they are far more rare.
@@350Z247 thanks u bro,
You didn't need any additional parts? I have the VQ35DE, would increasing the rev limit with a tune in conjunction with this be a good idea?
@@michaelt779 good luck man!
@@350Z247 Alright after hours of searching I think I sourced one locally for ~$200. It is a 2011-2013 Infiniti G37 MT Locking RWD 3.692 carrier assembly. The parts store said the earlier models had a different part number and wanted ~$400 for it.
@@350Z247 Awesome. Thanks for the quick response! I'd hate to do all of this hunting and find one that doesn't fit.
@@travismills4499 no problem man. It took me like three months before I found one that I liked for the price.
I would recommend waiting for a diff with the correct flange as you'll be investing in a fancy torque wrench or paying someone else to swap it
Why does this say $300 when I can't find upgraded gears for less than a grand for my HR?
You clearly didn't watch the video. Try again.
I was looking for a link and didn't have the sound on, while being forced to watch the wife's Netflix option lol
@@NSWvet83 it's a used pumpkin from eBay or a junkyard.
@@350Z247 been looking for one for awhile. I'll probably just get the ring and pinion for $600 from Z1
350Z247 it looks like I have 4 bolt. So what would my options be? And also would a manual pumpkin swap into my automatic?
@@taylorfreudenthaler4409 Four bolt flange means any of the circled manual diffs will work on that list in the video.
350Z247 thanks so much for all the helpful information! Just earned a sub 👍
@@taylorfreudenthaler4409 glad I could help. Good luck!
So I can swap my 3.3 to a 3.5 without any issue? I have a 2003. I can use any year diff?
You should have the 4 bolt circular flange like I did which will accept any manual transmission diff. The later year automatics switched to a 3 bolt triangular flange. You can get a 3.5, 3.7, or 3.9.
I’ve got a 2014 370z, auto. So am I able looking for a 2015 auto?
You need an auto diff from a Nismo 2015 or newer

How much would I expect to improve 0-60 going from 3.538 to 3.692 gears?
A few tenths. It's not night and day, but it's more than a few bolt on mods will get you.

Do u recommend 3.69 Gears for a 03 g35 NA??
Yeah, I think it would work great. Raising the redline with UpRev would pair well with the diff.
Can u post a link to one that’s on eBay rite now I wana get one for my 03 g35 just don’t wana get the wrong one I have 4 bolt flange
I couldn't find a diff from a 07-08 G35S which is your best option. You can look on online junkyards or wait. Can u put the Manual one in the auto de
If the pinion flanges match, you could have a circular 4 bolt flange or a triangular 3 bolt flange. You'll have to check under your car to know.
What about 4.08 or 4.36
Those were never offered in a factory diff.
@@350Z247 have an opinion on doing 4.08 (4.36 wouldn't bother me either) yourself or just buying 3.9 rear straight up?
@@QuikModsOBS too many variables for there to be a single right answer. Stock redline DE, I'd say 3.9 is as high as I would ever go. 7,200 to 7,800 would be OK for the 4.08. I wouldn't do 4.36 unless your engine is fully built and revving past 8,000. The gearing just becomes so short and almost unusable. Regardless, I don't know of they're worth the price for a non race build, especially if you aren't installing it yourself.
@@350Z247mine is 05 rev up sedan 6mt, I definitely want to get into autoX then into track building.
From what I’ve seen the g37 convertibles are wrong the autos are 3.3 and the manuals are 3.6 from what I’ve heard on the internet
I found one once listed as 3.9 on eBay, but it was like $900. They're obviously super rare; so, it likely won't be am issue. The 370Z Nismo diff is much more common.
