My first yr planting these, and I had my first few containers of gorgeous paper whites blooming around our home yesterday during our extended family Thanksgiving meal. I have "Inbal" in bloom and it quickly became a runny silly family joke to see who enjoyed the floral scent and who thought it was a litter box needing emptying. We added a scented candle next to the display so all could enjoy them no matter how their nose responded to the fragrance! 😂 They truly ARE easy to grow and so beautiful!
Great video! I love paper whites and plant mine outdoors when they are done blooming inside and they come back next year. As a matter of fact the ones I planted last year outdoors, they are ready to bloom now
i started some last year for the first time. funny to here the mixed reviews from family on the scents the smelled. i threw them in the garage on a shelf in the pots with evey intention of composting them . when i went to grab the pots last week to empty them out they are all growing green starts! well now i have to see what they do. no water all Summer in the hot garage and they lived. we shall see if they want to flower too.
Love your segments on amaryllis and in fact, just ordered the Yellow Star, Gervaise and Nymph bulbs from Longfield Gardens. As part of their Black Friday specials, they are sending 10 paper whites at no charge. Planted these many years ago with success but did not like the “fragrance.” We have a screened-in linai so I think they will be happy growing there and come in for enjoying. I'm just about ready to dig my spent paper whites up from my garden! I haven't moved them for a few years and they have multiplied rapidly! I live in Tasmania Australia and love seeing the in clumps in my garden, I've never thought about potting some up !My flowers of choice are Orchids and roses! Your channel is very informative! 👏👏👌👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Love watching and learning from all your videos! Besides Longfield Gardens, where else do you purchase paperwhites and amaryllis bulbs from? I also forgot to order Ranunculus and Anemone bulbs and many places are sold out, do you have any suggestions of where I might be able to find some now? Appreciate all you share and inspiration!
Thanks for the great tips! I find the scent of paperwhites too strong but now that you told us about Nir and Inbal, I may give them a try. Longfield Gardens says that Inbal has half the amount of perfume. Why do you prefer Nir? Are the blooms nicer?
Hi Danielle! Thank you for this video!I have enjoyed my first bowl of paperwhites and have another two getting ready. I woke up this morning to find my stalks flopped all the way over (despite twine already tied around), and more twine doesn’t help much. The newest bloom that has only started to open is also drooping. They were beautiful until this morning. Any ideas on what I may have done wrong so I don’t repeat the mistake with my next two bowls?
I purchased bulbs from Longfield Gardens after being inspired by your video last year. I have bulbs that are being extremely slow to begin growing. One group of 5 bulbs in a container has 3 bulbs near bloom and 2 that have yet to begin much of a stalk. I’m also finding it very challenging to find the cool conditions necessary in the home to grow the stronger root system. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Terri! What variety are you growing? I find Nir and Ziva to be the quickest. How many weeks has it been? Do you have a cool corner in your house near a window? Perhaps near a wall that lacks insulation? Our kitchen doesn't have insulation and I find they grow well in that room.
No basement here, so I literally had to designate an empty (darkened at first) bedroom where we could close off heating and crack the window to create a cool enough environment. But it worked beautifully and in our opinion as first time growers VERY worth that bit of effort!
After my paper whites bloom do I cut all the green off then store them in a fridge till next year or wait till spring and plant them?? I’m not sure what to do with them afterwards…help!

I must have a different variety. I have my paper white's in the ground and they come back every year. Zone 6B, WV. They multiply like crazy!

Hi Laura! I think the blooms on Nir are slightly bigger. If I had to choose one I would always go with Nir.

They should genetically engineer paperwhites to flower all year round so you can keep it indoors and have your place smelling fragrant everyday.
