Is the Burchell's Coucal also known as the rainbird? I remember that delightful, soft sound, hearing it often in Pretoria.

I could do with that beautiful flyer catcher in my kitchen as there are just tooo many flies buzzin around...As my imported flyer catch from China my China's doesn't make a sound although it does seemingly catch up with the perskie flies...😊..

Lol the kiewiet in our area are our midnight alarms for anyone walking in the velt. They never disappoint.
Lol, our midnight alarms are the pair of Hadedas that roost in a tree in our garden. One night they shouted and flew out the tree. My hubby went to investigate and found our large gate open, so someone had come onto our property and had spooked the Hadedas.
Beautiful Xhosa name for a beautiful bird...

Yes, we have a very rich bird life, over 1000 bird species are on the Southern African list. I've seen almost 800 of those.
