Brings back memories in what feels like another lifetime on another continent.
Was in an army convoy going to Lohatla Battle school, did that twice via this route, spectacular views.
When we went through Vanrhynsdorp, which was a very small town in 1983, literally the whole towns population came out to look at this military convoy winding it's way through. I guess they'd never seen equipment like that.

I have driven up vanRhyn's many times. There are 2 British soldiers buried at it's foot, killed in the Boer War. The town at the top saw a bit af action too. The church treasurer absconded with church funds at about that time.

I know that road it's scarring most cars can't climb that mountain.

I never knew that there is another Makgobaskloof mountain road on the other side of Mokopane...😢 Until this tragedy 😭... This road is scary
