  • Sometimes referred to as the "most beautiful road in South Africa", does it live up to the claims? We leave Knysa behind and make our way west via the old Knysa George route. The Seven Passes, this route connects Knysa with George via seven passes built way way back in the day by Thomas Bain in 1883, declared a national monument almost all the original bridges still stand except for one. That has been replaced with a steel bridge after it got washed away.

Even more so in real life. Just can image a forest of those big trees everywhere... just go back in time and feel like you are Jurassic Park... so much beauty in that old tree.

@@thetravelingtortoises I found it so interesting when you were riding through the forests and some of the passes, how the bikes looked like tiny ants against the landscape, I think we forget how big some these things really are

And just imagine if we still had those Giant Knysa trees everywhere!! Must have been an amazingly beautiful site to see.

Great videography. Great adventures. Maybe start adding a snippet of route been driven, also maybe overlay the route from the gps over the screen at times to show whet your traveling for others to identify and use to plan their own especially all the scenic river crossings and bridges.

Garden Route Trail Park brings back memories. Went MTBing there with my son in 2014 and had one massive involuntary dismount on a big jump. Also rode Homtini with the mountain bikes.

As you say, Phantom Pass is named after a butterfly not a ghost, but there is definitely something a lot more creepy about Karatara Pass. I have had unexplained and very weird things happen there at night and a friend of mine who lived on a farm in the area regularly had their house visited by a lady dressed in Victorian clothing who wandered around the bedrooms. I don't believe in this stuff myself, but given my own inexplicable experiences in Karatara, you would definitely not find me riding through there on a dark night on a motorbike!

Sounds like there is a lady walking in her sleep... haha! It is a beautiful place to ride, so many of those stories of the "lady in white" walking around at night in the Cape areas. But I think riding this road at night must be quite an interesting experience by itself. We don like riding at night and try our best to not do it.
