    Man you had me in the beginning! I was like yea I started filming and now looking at the profiles. I’m sold on the HLG3. I immediately saw that blown highlights were not blown and the shadows were now visible. Thank you for this!!!!!!!!

    Tried all the S-Log's and cine profiles but couldn't get them to look good consistently so tried the HLGs. Ended up loving the HLG3. Use Premiere Pro to edit, and I've read it does a lot of the heavy lifting to go from HDR to SDR for you automatically - made a LUT a while ago and have used it for my videos ever since. Really happy with it so far! It's an underrated profile for sure!

    I use FCPX and HLG3 as well. I used to use Leeming LUT as well. Now all I do is change the Color Space Override(the option over Camera LUT) and select 709 and it brings it back. I usually over expose HLG by 0.3-0.7

    Is selecting HLG3 Rec709 on camera HDR or SDR? I found HLG3 BT2020 tricky to view on different monitors (if kept as HDR project and not converted to 709) as some couldn't display it. Agree HLG3 is great, just hoping it still makes sense to use HLG3 Rec709. Great video bud

  • @morganseel

    Hey Terry, love the video. I noticed the FCPX HDR Tools added an HLG to Rec. 709 SDR conversion that makes it even darker. Have you experimented with this new one yet? I've also heard going to Info Tab > Color Space Override > Rec 2020 will do the trick, but I can't decide which correction option seems to look the best and preserve the most dynamic range. Any new thoughts since this vid is from back in July 2020?

  • @antalgabor
    @antalgabor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, HDR tools is the real too to deal with HLG in a Rec709 in FCPX, you just confirmed it!
    2 questions:
    Do you use gamma display assist when you shoot in HLG3?
    Do you use zebra for exposing?

    • @terrytang5367
      @terrytang5367 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not the same Terry but I’m shooting my Sony a7iii with HLG3. I use gamma display assist and I leave it at Auto. I also use Zebra to get the right exposure especially when using for skin tone. I set it on custom 1 with ire set to 60+ and -5 and set the exposure to get the zebra on the subject’s face and then lower the ISO by 1/3 of a stop.

  • @zelkuth
    @zelkuth 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent examples! I do use hlg3 with my zve10 and leeming luts. In the examples u showed, did you overexpose to the right? If so, how many stops(if you remember). Because you mentioned iso 100, which is impossible for ettr 😁
