You are limited by speed limits (no tickets for me!) and scooter, so where else can you excel?
I know I’m not the best, the fastest, the top of any one category, so I have to do my absolute best in every category.

Check over scooter and refuel, perform any maintenance

I used Trick Tracks (thank you Scott Taggert!) & google maps
I would verify check points and bonus points, compare routes and write notes in my booklet.
I learned the hardway after day 1
You need to do your own navigating because the official route is not the fastest
Of the top 5, 4 of us for sure mis navigated, possibly all 5?

No food or beverages
Bathroom, take your time, you aren’t on the clock yet
Leave at dawn or whenever ready
8:02 -During the ride:
Restart if needed
Don’t stop. No fuel (scooter setup), no food, no bathroom. I just would sip water as needed.
My butt didn't leave the seat from start to finish
Collect all the points possible. I think 49 people got all the points
