Still trying to figure out how to disconnect wire from the coil. You are the only one with a 2019 engine. Could you do a quick clip on taking off the clip from the coil?
Unfortunately it’s not my truck so I can’t easily do that. Iirc, there is a red locking tab that needs to be pulled back, then you are able to push the tab to unlock the connector. It’s very common that I use a flat head screwdriver to move the red locking tab, and very common I use a pick to lift the internal locking tab up, from the inside of the connector instead of pushing down on it. I see a lot of broken tabs and using a pick has worked well for me.
Push button start in 2007? Cool
I am assuming the drain fill tube is what keeps it from draining all th fluid out while plug is removed with car running correct?
Yes, it drains only excess fluid out. The top of the tube is at the “full” level.
Didn’t need to do any of that 😂
The trick is indeed installing belt on pump first, then INSIDE of the pulley. You can also heat the belt up in hot water or lay on a hot dash in the Summertime, then hurry to install. These are mofo's so be patient and keep cussing under 30 words.😂
I was scared from here when you started to lift the truck. It looked like it was going to snap in two. It's a wonder that guy didn't get into an accident driving it like that.
I never saw a ratcheting truck frame before. ha ha
WWOOOOOWWW! Frame? What frame?
Right? Lol
@@bennieaust amazing job fixing it. I would not have believed it was possible..........
Thanks!
Great video. Wished I knew earlier. Spent $1200 on 2 triple flushes at the dealer😢
:( at least that won’t happen again.
This helped me out a lot. Very concise and to the point video. I ended up using a piece of wood becaouse my 2005 mazda 6 has some obstacles on de left side of spindle. On the mazda six it is Napa part #030195SF micro v stretch fit
Good video, I did both front and back, but you made the front look easier than in reality. The sledge to the control arm to pop the ball joint damages it, and it did not pop it loose. I bought the separator tool, which worked great, but you risk damaging the ball joint thread since the bolt is hollow and fragile (happened on both sides). I was able to get one side to go, but the other side I had to replace the whole ball joint, which was a massive pain in its own right, as it’s highly difficult to extract and replace. Be possibly prepared for this as well. I highly recommend grabbing a friend…it would be extremely challenging to do this job solo, even with a lift since you’re keeping as much intact as possible. Once you take off the brake and knuckle assembly, it does roll, so you really need a hand ensure you get that secured properly to avoid damage to the brake line. Also, the new strut is difficult to line up in the hole, once again, good to have a buddy. We put the bottom in first and used a floor jack to help with getting it aligned properly and get the clips on, as it needs to be perfectly centered and doesn’t have much play. Lot of trial and error in adjusting the alignment. I used a ratcheting c-clamp to help get the clips together. Reassembly from there was mostly correct. The main thing you didn’t mention- the ball joint spins, so it may be difficult to properly torque it. We didn’t realize it has a hex in the center of the thread to help prevent this, and you should use a box wrench and #5 hex wrench to tighten it down. Hope this additional context helps!
Thanks for watching and adding your experience and tips!! It’s never a bad idea to have a second set of hands. I definitely do my best to show any struggles I have. I figure if I’m having issues with something, it’s highly likely someone else will have the same issues. I do edit out a lot of unnecessary and time consuming stuff so the videos are watchable. Being able to work through the unexpected challenges is what set apart beginners from experienced mechanics (I’m making no claims where I fit on that scale). I have not ever damaged a lower ball joint by hitting the control arm with a hammer, but it is possible. As you experienced, you can also damage them even with the correct tool. I own the tool, but have found a big hammer to be my personal preference most of the time. If you don’t damage the ball joint threads it shouldn’t put up a big fight going back together, but if it does, put some grease on the threads and put a floor jack under the control arm to press it over the tapered ball joint stud. More force will lock it in and prevent it from spinning since it’s tapered, and use an impact, being careful to not over tighten the nut. That’s a personal tried and true method.
I got the Hercules grinder and I personally think it’s a good ass grinder, not sure on how long-term it will hold up but for the uses that I’ve been using it. It’s done the job and it’s well hard to describe balanced like it’s not shaky when you’re cutting metal. i’ve been looking at the Hercules lying and I’m kind of getting in their line now for being a decent brand now and how the warranty works. I feel like warranty wise is pretty easy on Harbor freight.
I’ve been hammering on my Hercules grinder for a while now and it’s been a great tool for me as well. The whole lineup has treated me good and l agree the warranty is easy if you do have a problem. The battery cost is also very reasonable. The DeWalt battery cost is getting out of hand. :( I’ll keep buying the Hercules!
I watched this video to do my 2019 an looked for all the drain an fill.points an theit is a sticker right where the max level fill hole an im.pretty sure is says lv
This video is excellent 👌 just what i needed. However i dont have a car lift , would you recommend doing this without one ? Or is it possible to even do this DIY without a vehicle lift ?
Thanks! You can absolutely do it without a lift, but it will be a little more challenging. Mainly because you will be doing it on your back, on a creeper. If you drive on to ramps, or set up on jack stands you should have nothing preventing you from getting it done.
is this the same for a 2017 Sonata? anyone?
Yes, as the title and description say, 2010-2018.
Cool video but I must say I can only hear Steve-o thru ur voice!
lol, I haven’t heard that before but I’ll take it! Steve-O is the man!
Apart from the sound quality this is a perfect review. Thank you for your insight!
You’re welcome!!
thank you for creating and sharing this video. If only this video came out early in 2024 when I had to drain and fill my 2016 Pilot 3 times to fix a shuddering issue. I still use Honda DW-1 ATF and lately a new crush washer as well with each fluid change. It's only about $3. I guess I'll have to drain & re-fill 3 quarts of ATF every 5K miles as a preventive maintenance task. Law firms are aware of this problem and are reaching out to Honda owners....a class action lawsuit is coming soon.
You’re welcome!
Is the five cylinder gas version very durable if maintained?
Yes, the 2.5 5 cylinder has a reputation for being bulletproof.
@bennieaust 👍
Wow- Seems like every model like this has the same issue but yet the RV service techs have never heard of any issues with these units....hmmmmm SUS!! BTW this is the most sensitive fan ever made. Perhaps something a bit more robust for a unit that is supposedly road worthy and has doubled in price due to "supply chain issues"
It would be great if it was a bit (a lot) more robust!!
Cant get fuel injector clips out
Sometimes I use a pick to unclip them from the bottom where they hook. I've found that to be the safest way to not break them if they are fighting you. When you plug the injector and coil pack plugs back in spraying them with silicone spray will help everything go back together nicely too.
I replaced my cooler the other day. Disconnecting the injectors was the biggest challenge for me. First, you need to unlock them. Use a pic or something to press on the side to unlock and the tab will rise. Once unlocked, squeeze both sides GENTLY and give a little wiggle. They should release and separate...
Great video but wish you had shown the state of the fluid after the first 5qts, i.e. the flush, before adding the final amount. Do you feel doing the flush was worthwhile? Obviously buying an extra 5-6 qts just to use for a flush effectively doubles the cost of this service.
Sorry I didn't picture that. It was only marginally better which is exactly why I would recommend it. If the fluid came out looking new, then it would feel like a waste of "new" fluid. It didn't look new. Also, look at it as an investment in your truck. You don't want to know what it cost to have the 10R80 transmission rebuilt. I'm not saying this service will address all the known issues with this transmission, but it is money well spent!!
I have this grinder with the top switch, I also have the larger corded one, both are great. All of the Hercules stuff I have has been really good so far. No complaints.
That’s great to hear! Mine is still working great with some pretty heavy use!
Does it not have a transmission filter ?
There is no internal transmission filter. There is an external filter mounted above the transmission. This video only covers the Honda drain and fill procedure.
I bought an 84 GMC High Sierra long box over the summer and was told the frame is thin. Its not cracked or rotted, pretty rusty but thin in some places. Mech said a welder might be able to do some "boxing" on it specifically from the back of the cab to the end of the truck. The front is good though. Is boxing a pretty common thing to do? I'm hoping to save this truck because other than the weak frame, the rest of the truck is indecent shape.
@@movieguy1985 boxing is not a bad idea, but I would recommend taking it to a welder and simply asking them what they would recommend. Every welder will approach it slightly differently and ultimately the goal is to simply reinforce it. Choose a good welder and let them do their thing.
Excellent Video, thank you 👍
You’re welcome!
OEM fluid only, cannot go wrong with it!
you have used valvoline oil, which is a fully synthetic oil, but Toyota does not state in its original oil (Toyota ATF WS) that it is a fully synthetic oil. Is it possible to use fully synthetic oil if the original oil is not synthetic?
Yes, I have, and will continue to use Valvoline for applications that it says it’s recommended for on the bottle. If you look on the back of the bottle it has Toyota WS listed. I’ve never had any issues with using it even in 350k+ mile transmissions. That’s been my experience, but you should use whatever you feel most comfortable with (that’s stated for use with Toyota WS fluid). I have linked Valvoline and Toyota fluid both in the description.

I own a 2019 Honda Ridgeline AWD, and this issue first arose when the vehicle had approximately 30,000 miles. The problem consistently recurs every 8,000 to 10,000 miles. Currently, with 60,000 miles on the odometer, I've had to address this issue four times already.
I know it’s common, but I’m sorry to hear it’s been such an issue on yours. :(
The interior is similar to my limited edition. I have a different entertainment system that came with Sirius XM.
Lap joint going to hold moisture, salt..rust out real fast.

Thanks!
I have a 2019 Geo Pro 16, basically the same as the R-Pods and last year I just had my Dexter torsion axle replace because the passenger side was 2 inches lower than the driver side. Dexter sent me a new axle at no cost, but I had to pay for install. Now 14 months later I have the exact same camber issue as you had, passenger side top of the tire under the fender, with my new Dexter axle and I've only put 20 miles on the new axle, which was me driving it back from the shop that installed the axle. I emailed Dexter and hopefully Monday will have an answer, but I am shocked to see this happen on my camper that was just sitting in my back yard. These torsion axles all must be crap or under rated for the campers, or the manufactures are not matching the axles to the campers properly and they should put a heavier rated axle on these campers.
I feel the same exact way. I own an RV rental business and I don’t even want to buy any campers that have torsion axles. The r-pod 193 in this video has needed a new axle every single year. It’s free, and it’s not hard for me to swap out, but why would I buy another? I haven’t had any issues with my leaf sprung campers and they tow just fine. It’s really a bummer. I hope you get yours taken care of, again. :(
Thank you so much for posting a very detailed video, sir ! I have a question please. I have 2013 EXL. Transmission just started acting a little bit un this cold weather. It sometimes shifts hard with a little jerk between 1st and 2nd shift. I want to change the fluid. My mechanic says he will change the whole fluid, but I'm thinking about just drain and fill ( because I heard from so many people not to completely change the fluid on high mileage because it can create more problems in the transmission). What do you suggest, please? Thank you.
You’re welcome! I think starting with a drain and refill like in this video is a good idea.
Anyone near Baltimore md that can do this work on a 2013 chevy Silverado z71 4door 5.3
did you try to do transmition software re learn
I didn’t. Just did the service shown in this video and it’s been great ever since.
I'm looking into getting a 2013-2014 version of this. Did you have the windows down while filming? Because your mic is picking up a lot more road noise than I would normally expect to hear.
The windows were not down during filming. These are very quiet cars, one test drive will confirm that for you.
Thanks .
You’re welcome!
Could you please show some video of the sides?
Next time it’s over here I will do that!
transmission shudder is a problem on many Honda vehicles. My CR-V has same issue and TSB is same. change your fluid often
Hey man. I have a 2014 Odyssey and did the same drain and fill 3 times. But each time I will actually drive the van about 10 minutes away including a highway run. I also used OEM Honda ATF. Been doing it every 40k
Sounds like you've done a great job of preventing this issue! Using Genuine Honda fluid is always a great choice. I service a ton of transmissions and keep a large quantity of the Valvoline fluid on hand because it's recommended for many applications. The reason I didn't go for a drive and kept a pretty short run time between all mine fluid changes was because I was hoping to not dilute the new fluid with old. It's going to happen no matter what though, and I guess that's why you do 3 drain / fill cycles. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks! Annoying when cars don't have a fill port accessible from under the hood. Then again, this car has the oil filter directly above the A arm, so they were pretty much going for maximum annoyance 😂
The oil filters drive me nuts! :(
Does the color of the ns2 cvt matters because the oil in my altima gear box is a bit brownish and the ns2 color is green should I use the green transmission
I've seen different colors from different manufacturers. I've never heard of a specific color being called out for, just a specific type. If they type is right, in my opinion, that's all you need to worry about.
How close to 5 quarts was it? 4.75? How long did it take to get up to temp?
It was almost exactly 5qts. It took about 20 minutes to warm up, but it started at a pretty low temp.
my hyundai 2013 santa fe has a recall on the engine. they replaced it but body & trans has about 107xxx do you still recommend drain & fill? & if so only that no additives? thank you 🙏🏼
If your transmission has 107K miles I would definitely recommend servicing it. Any fluid that is recommended for the Hyundia spec will be fine. I would not recommend any additives.
@ thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼 will definitely be looking to drain & refill not a full flush!!
Just what everything you did is wrong. Wrong transmission fluid as any tech knows, Honda is very picky with DW-1 factory fluid as it specialized. Crush washers need to be replaced as they crush to do a good seal. Reusing does not crush again. Between ATF changes you need to take it up 50+ mph to allow the torque converter to lock up and the fluid to flow through. This is done between each drain/fill. Please do not post on internet if you don’t know what you’re doing because people will read this and also do it wrong. I suggest you go to the dealer for your service based on this video.
Thanks for watching and commenting Doug.
Doug, you must be a paid actor or something. Is this account being ran by a Honda dealership? I hope you are aware that this is a Honda and not a Rolls Royce, we are fully aware of what we’re doing here.
@ Nope, not a paid actor or work for dealership. Just a regular car enthusiast that has owned and maintained several Acura/Hondas over the past 30+ years. For those that are watching this video, please read my original comments above for the correct (3x) transmission drain/fill for your Honda/Acura. 👍
@DougSchwartz-o1g - Countless Honda owners have for years used the Valvoline ATF on their Hondas with no problems. I use it on my 220,000 mile Pilot, and I have never noticed any difference in shifting. If DW1 was so great, then why is it not holding up very well in the six speed transmissions? It apparently can’t handle the heat generated by that transmission. Maybe the Valvoline MaxLife can.
If it has a Pan, I believe it has a Filter. Why not change it?
I certainly wouldn’t tell you you shouldn’t change it. This video just covers Toyota’s recommended fluid change procedure.
