Last week the guys bought each other 150MPH cars with a budget of just £1500. Edwin bought Will a 285HP, turbocharged Vauxhall Zafira for £1500 while Will bought Edwin a Chrysler Crossfire for just £1300. Today, they've got £250 each to modify their cars in preparation for next weeks episode where they attempt to hit 150MPH in them.

Agreed! A waste gate actuator and boost control solenoid is maybe £150! I'm actually surprised the tuner didn't have any laying around.

@TheBeewires nah the mrs loves a bit of turbo flutter but has to carry 4 kids a buggy and all their shit the zafira vxr is perfect for her its 300hp sounds great handles ok and does the shopping and school run she had the galaxy titanium 2.5t before (that was really fun and sounded epic)

Would love to see you continue to mod the Zafira for laughs. BUT please promise never to wash it, or attempt to fix any of its cosmetic damage!! Remember: Asda trolley dents in the doors, biscuit crumbs rubbed into the upholstery and barely attached front bumpers add just as much extra horsepower as those precisely installed bonnet-vents!
Then add some knobbly tyres and take it green laning!

@@Mardy72Possibly would have if they dealt with many Vauxhalls and were familiar with the limiting factors of worn boost related parts/items, but, by the sounds of it they’re more Ford and VAG specialists.
Solenoid is as cheap as chips why not change it?

The reason it's got oil in the plug valley is cause Z20LETs have plastic valve covers that are notorious for warping. The only permanent solution is replacement, replacing the gasket is temporary and it'll come back in a month tops
Also the mistery issue thing is quite a popular thing in the Z20 world, they go great but when they break it's annoying as hell to figure out
The reason you have boost issues is cause of a cracked exhaust manifold, it's a common failure point of Z20 K04's, they're very difficult to find and usually 700£, it's cheaper to just buy a Stage 2 from KRS and it'll make 300 all day.
The Safira needs to be Will's daily driver. I expect reviews every 3 months.

If you want to mod a car cheap to improve top speed you could literally get a giant sheet of correx (plastic cardboard) and self-tap a flat floor to your car for lower drag. Helps fuel economy too! Very nice of Edwin to donate the rest of his budget by the way! It's nice to see presenters of a car show actually being helpful to each other

I used to hate them and pt cruisers but having watched this and an episode of donut media where they went to a modified pt cruiser meet, they're both growing on me 😂
Same with that Smart Roadster, even tho' it's supposed to have an awful automatic gearbox...thing looks like a blast.
The SRT6, obviously, is a lot more fun to drive as is the convertible. The standard coupe is by a country mile the worst so I understand the hatred for this one. Having driven a standard coupe and SRT6 convertible (my late dad had both at one point or another) - they are night and day apart.

One thing that makes you guys stand out is all your off remark references, they’re all ones I’d use with friends around me. Love it!
For Crossfire tuning (mercedes m112 engine) you just fit the larger throttle from the m113 V8 engine, m113 MAF tube with the stock MAF and the larger airbox from any of the other m112 engine like from an s320 as they are larger than the crossfire. You can also easily remap the ECU.

The Zafira GSi topped out at 137mph according to the official figures. Great cars though, we bought ours new from Motorpoint for £16.5k when they were still doing great deals on new cars. It was apparently an import, manufactured at Ellesmere Port, shipped to Holland, sat in a compound for a while then shipped back to Burnley for £6k less than Vauxhall were selling them for.

The thing with those MB twinspark V engines is that they were already relatively high output for their size, almost all of them can benefit from proper tubular manifolds if you have the couple of grand they cost but most people either fit forced induction or swap to one of the bigger engines.
Many of the parts are mix and match and pretty strong, the six speed in this will survive OK behind the 350bhp AMG 5.4 V8 although the 5 litre is much easier to find on the cheap.
Will was definitely the standout from overdrive from a country mile

I don't get the Crossfire hate. It's a 200hp, manual, rear-wheel-drive car with a V6... Sure it has a controversial design and imprecise steering, but for the price, it's a good option.
It's literally a Mercedes slk underneath a Chrysler body. The only difference is the crossfire weighs more
It was up against the 350Z and BMW Z4 of the time, and next to the pair of them it was lethargic, the V6 is uninspired. It’s got the ingredients, but even for £1300 you’d get more enjoyment day to day out a warm hatch Fiesta ZS or twingo sport. The only thing it has going for it is the fact it’s rear wheel drive, and once the supply of cheap E46s dry up I think these might become good skid pigs.

@@tati-anaroseee4316 makes less power but is a much neater car to drive. The SLK was a softer luxury roadster, and the crossfire took those underpinning to try and make a sports car. BMW built a ground up chassis for the E85
@@slideways8022 the slk/crossfire also came with up to 350 horsepower which is more than the other 2 by a massive amount. The 350z was also nearly a 4000 pound car. I think people are severely under playing the ability of the slk/crossfire simply because it's less aesthetically pleasing and more expensive to modify. But as a stock car between the 3 the slk 32 amg or crossfire srt 6 is the better handling, faster, quicker, cheaper, and in the case of slk, better looking car. The m112k is the same engine as the m113k minus 2 cylinders, it deserves a lot more respect is all I'm saying.

When using a grinder, if the sparks are burning your hands and your balls - adjust the guard, always wear gloves, and don't stand directly in line with the disc. If that thing cracks and flies apart it won't be pretty.

I love my Crossfire. I have a yellow convertible. I glued the cupholder closed and will probably be adding nitrous this summer. I've legit done 150 MPH in it too.

It's a crap service, you aren't missing out on anything.
If you're going to actually tune the GSI, You'll have to head over to Rusty Autos to make sure you've got the correct forged bits. Then youll be able to make really good power from that block
If you want to add ANY horsepower to a Vauxhall, whether it be 1 or 100hp, everybody knows you have to fit wind deflectors - full stop. You can fit them and just choose the figure you've added.

You can unplug the rear boost controller behind inlet manifold for max boost in 1&2nd gear.

The Crossfire /SLK engine is actually very strong- has a great note but you can't remap it, except to maybe 225HP, which is the spec it had in other models- that's the problem , not that they don't want to- THEY CAN'T! Only way around it would be a custom ECU.
