TL;DR 1. Rubbing shampoo to the length of your hair (scalp only!) 2. Skipping conditioner 3. Rubbing your hair with a towel (use a t-shirt!) 4. Getting run-down / stressed / poor nutrition 5. Brushing or combing wet hair 6. Always using a hair dryer 7. Not protecting your hair from UV 8. Not rinsing your hair of pool water (wear a swim cap!) 9. Tight hair styles (extensions included!) 10. Using hair products that offer long lasting hold
From personal experience, I can recommend having your iron levels checked if you are losing a lot of hair. Especially for ladies who may have particularly heavy periods (which can all be symptoms of an underlying health issue like uterine fibroids).
I’m “iron deficient” but not anemic. My ferritin is 21 and all the research I’ve done shows it should be around 70 for regrowth. I have very heavy periods and have lost more than half my hair in the last year after stopping birth control for other health reasons. So upsetting.
Mine personal hair growth progress and success, I adhered to this routine: Take early morning sunshine daily for essential vitamin D. Consume vegetables of different colors. Applying paraben-free and fragrance free shampoo and massaging twice a week with hair oil from litttleextra's cooconion. Imp. to keep in mind that hair growth is affected by general well-being as well as circulation and nutrition.
Always wet your hair before going into a pool, chlorinated or salt water, dry hair will absorb everything but when wet already it is less damaging, especially if you have porous hair. That is a trick I've learned during my pro modeling years. I like to put in a conditioner on towel dried hair and pull my hair way up to avoid contact
For hair with waves/curls, brushing wet hair is more beneficial. It’s best to condition your hair, and then brush your hair with a wide-tooth comb or a paddle brush. This is because it’s easier for the brush to glide thru the hair cuticle rather than break. I also recommend using a diffuser rather than a blow dryer.
I’d had long hair-to the waist or even my hips-since I was 12 years old. I’m 67 now, and when I was 65, I had a serious illness that almost killed me. Maybe six months after I (fortunately) recovered, my long, healthy hair that I’d ALWAYS had started dramatically falling out. It was like losing my arm and a crucial part of my identity. I got it cut to mid-back (the shortest it had been since I was 11 years old) and started major hair care, though I’ve always cared well for my hair. Now, over 2 years later, the thickness has returned and the length is starting to come back. I am fortunate to have a loving hair stylist who has waist to hip length hair herself. She only trims my hair and never pushes shorter styles. Long hair has always been so much a part of my identity that the hair loss after my illness was a major trauma. Nonetheless I still encounter those people. I have since I was 30. Now that I’m 67, they probably think I’m just a crazy old lady, though I look much younger than my age. Total strangers, usually suburban women with conventional bobs, will approach me and say, “Your hair is absolutely beautiful! But at your age, you ARE going to get it cut-right? It’s just more appropriate.” The reason I started growing my hair after a disastrous pixie cut was that I saw my 87 year old grandmother, who usually wore her hair in a neat bun, brushing her hair after a nap. It was brilliantly white, lushly wavy, and at least to her waist. I grew my hair because of that admirable old woman. So no, I am not going to get my hair cut at my age. Besides, I would have to style short hair and I’m incapable. Long hair is easy-unless you get sick for a long time, almost die, and lose it. I’m grateful it’s coming back.
thank you for such a beautiful story I’m so glad that you’re recovered from that illness🤍. And yes, long hair makes us look way younger. Do you mind sharing with me what did you do to grow your hair back? What products did you use, vitamins, treatments? My hair is deeply damaged because of extensions and I want to grow it naturally (thing that I’ve never been capable of)
Perla, sometimes I take hair vitamins, but mainly I’m just kind to my hair. I shampoo once a week and use repairing conditioner. I brush and comb very carefully.
@@saraha5522, that actually is a current photo. I am grateful to my parents, who are no longer with me, but who kept young through their long lives. They both blessed my by living into their 90s.
@@janearcher999 I hope you told those people off! "thank you for your unsolicited opinion, I promise to strongly consider the opinion of strangers" because audacity deserves audacity lol
Cosmetologist here ! There’s actually been increasing evidence showing that blow drying your hair gently and with little or no heat can actually help with breakage. Reason being is how you mentioned our hair is fragile when wet. The longer our hair is in this fragile state the more likely we are to suffer from breakage because of its weakened state. Make sense ? Also thank you for your explanation on hair shedding. I suffer from Uc and have been on steroids often. My hair has suffered. This wasn’t something we learned much about in school so I’m happy for a better explanation!
Wait I’m confused. When you say “help with breakage” do you mean it helps fight against breakage, or helps increase breakage? Your explanation makes it seem like you mean drying your hair with low or no heat can actually be more harmful by increasing breakage in our hair.
I have been noticing more strands of hair on my pillowcase/bedsheets these past few days and have been wondering why! Dr. Dray, you answered my question. It has been EXACTLY 3 months since my mom passed away! 😪 ❤️
@@marcomaffucci674 she works out and sweats every day. If i wash my hair but don't work out so my head didn't get sweaty, I will skip a day. It's not gonna cause harm.
Because that depends on your hair type and how active you are, there’s no one size fits all when it comes to that. You gotta do what works for you 🤷🏾♀️
Daniel Sanchez so sorry to hear this, starting university is so stressful. I use Latisse/Bimatoprost on my lashes and brows. It takes a while but definitely helps. But may needs your stress level to lower first. Make sure you’re eating & sleeping well. All the best :)
I love your holistic approach to health. What we do on a regular basis is much more important than some miracle product that promises to fix everything overnight. Thank you for reminding us to take care of ourselves :)
Nearly every curly girl detangles hair when soaking wet and covered in loads of conditioner and we use firm hold gels for definition. We don't shampoo as often and most of us air dry or diffuse the hair - which is better than using so much heat or straighteners. It's impossible to brush curly hair when it's dry and not look like a frizz ball, so that doesn't work for us. Textured or more ethnic hair is very fragile and needs a lot of TLC, so it has to be treated differently to straight hair. Some of the tips like using a t shirt, a wide toothed comb etc we all do anyway as well as the so glamorous sleeping bonnet lol. I wear my long curly hair up a lot in the Summer utilising scrunchies, headbands, coily plastic hair ties, clips etc as it's just too hot to wear down, but I am as gentle with it as I can be. Best wishes.
I really feel like we would all profit if Media (including social media) would be more specific what kind of hair they are refering to. Curly hair/ ethnic hair is VERY different from straight hair and stuff for the one kind won't work for the other. There simply are no one size fits all solutions. Sadly, my straight hair will never act like curly and it won't get curly by using a curly-girl-method
Yes! Amen! I have curly hair too. Most hair advice is meant for ppl with straight hair/non textured hair. I wish it wasn't. I've tried combing my hair dry. It just doesn't work for me. Also my hair can't live without gel
Happy Tuesday, Doc and everyone. My hair is much better shape since COVID 19 hit. I rarely do anything but shampoo, condition, and air dry. My skin is also loving lockdown, due not wearing makeup and staying out of the sun, more. I have more time, less clock watching, so have really got a daily routine of caring for myself down. I’m an SPF addict, finally finding products I love, after trying new ones, mainly recommended by you. You look lovely,. I’m hoping to hear good news of your mom and Tybee, soon! Thanks for all you do for us!
Me, too! But that has been going on since I was a kid. I have a ton of hair that is very thick and very oily. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? What is your hair type??
I would love to see you collab with a curly hair expert to discuss hair health and the science behind various ingredients. Styling products (like gels as you mentioned in the last bad habit) are often integral to a curly hair routine.. combined with proper clarifying and conditioning, of course. People with curly hair often have to learn about humectants, alcohols, oils & other moisturizing ingredients to find a good routine- not to mention you have to keep making adjustments seasonally whenever the weather changes. I would love to hear you break it all down.
Katie Langerman I use DevaCurl extra moisturizing products and get my hair cut at one of the top 10 curly cut salons in the US. Since COVID I’m losing wads of hair and my ends are dry and brassy... I’m Irish with nearly black hair that gets sun bleached in the summer and the ends get nearly orange. My hair is so thick I need to make a double appointment when getting it cut and normally let it air dry, but putting it up damp leaves me with damp roots 12 hours later so I don’t wash my hair everyday because half of my life I’d be walking around with a damp head. With all of that being said, I too brush prior to washing, I only run my fingers through it with DevaCurl conditioning products mixed with water between shampooing and wear it up 99% of the time in a loose bun. It’s grown insanely fast during COVID, but the ends are extremely dry and, again, it’s falling out in wads. I would love a thick, curly hair video as well and to know your throughs on DevaCurl products. I love the smell and have never had any irritation resulting from the use of any of their products...
I think people are unnecessarily harsh with their hair especially with bleaching, dying, and heating because they figure it's dead and can always be cut off and grown out but we don't think about the lasting damage that can be done.
@@jourdainjardin846 theyre applied to the scalp in most cases so your scalp could have lasting damage. Healthy hair comes from the scalp doesnt matter if you shave it all off and grow it back. Thats why people with sensitive scalps should be careful.
Have grown-out my hair for 10 months now thanks to your advice. Just had an expert cut. Hair never looked better and I am 66 y.o. Grey is fabulous. Thank you Dr. D. ❤
I'm so glad you discussed the impact of illness (health) on hair. I have mentioned that I lose a lot of hair after my brain injury, some seizures, surgeries, contrasts for some imaging, dental surgery, certain medications, etc. My doctors have made me feel like an idiot for mentioning it... BTW I really appreciate your very clear and complete info! :) Sunscreen is my BFF :)
Sam S I notice the conditioner rinses out of my hair better and this prevents the conditioner from weighing my hair down afterwards. I have really thick and straight hair and my strands are softer since I switched because I’m more likely to use conditioner this way.
I have long thick frizzy hair (like that witch in American Horror Story, Coven!). I've started conditioning my hair first, then washing, then conditioning the lower 2/3. It really helps with breakage for my coarse hair type. Great tips! Thanks for your videos!!
Clicked on this video right after bleaching my hair, dying it magenta and heat styling it three times a week like I don’t know damn well why my hair is messed up
I’m so guilty of #1. While I concentrate on the scalp I follow that scalp scrub with taking the rest of my hair on top and scrubbing it gently.. I guess an unnecessary step . I’m stopping that now. I recently got two of those turbin towels.. has a button on top to fasten .. was amazed at how much more water it absorbs than a regular towel. Thanks as always informative
Low key realizing my straight hair is as nice as it is because I'm just that lazy--I style with heat MAYBE once a year, blow dryer is only ever used if I don't even have the 15 mins before bed to let the ceiling fan do it, no styling products, never even tried detangling while wet, don't spend much time outside to begin with...lol. I guess that explains a lot of why my fam (some of whom are REALLY into hair) are always just so amazed at my hair and don't believe me when I tell them I literally do nothing to it
@@InimeKai if I sit there and kinda keep loosening my hair with my fingers (to improve the air flow) it takes about 15 mins. If I say, put on my headset and sit down to play a video game, though, that will take hours to dry to through the root. My hair is long, about waist length right now since I just cut it, but only about medium thickness and pin straight naturally, so that's probably got some to do with it too
@@Voldemortisdefeated props to you curly hair ladies! I got a perm once thinking I'd be fancy going into college and could not deal! Became the one time in my life I heat styled, with a flat iron if I was getting dressed nice 😂
I have short, naturally curly hair that's very dry as curly hair usually is. I need conditioner both after shampooing and as a leave-in after towel drying. I also never use an actual towel but rather an old T-Shirt that has a smooth surface. The Turbi-Twist and other microfiber hair towels along with regular terrycloth bath towels have a nap which creates tons of frizz. I have to comb conditioner through my hair just before rinsing it out in the shower. Otherwise I'd be a matted mess. :-(
This is the closest anyone's gotten to my own method for dealing with my hair, even as long as mine is. Wish I could get my t-shirt wrap to work though. I can never get it to secure right(operator error for sure). The turby wrap has been a game changer though. So. Much. Conditioner.

I know I’m late to the party, but I’d love information on hygral fatigue, please! Is it common? Is it easier to damage our hair this way than one would think? I’m on vacation now and have basically had wet hair for a week, so I’m worrying about it again. Thank you Dr. Dray! ❤️
Happy Tuesday Dr Dray and everyone . Such a great video . It is so important to learn that good hair health does necessarily mean salon products and styling tool , but good healthful habits . Enjoy your day and love to mom and Tybee!
The very best hair towel I’ve ever used is The Perfect Haircare Towel. It’s a totally smooth microfiber that is like silk & those used for cleaning lenses. No loops for frizzing hair.
Do you find it soaks up excess water well? I have frizzy prone curly hair. I find that water seeps down my back after I have gently combed my damp hair. I also turn my head upside down when combing it because I feel like it puts less pressure on my scalp.
A plain white cotton Hanes type mans t-shirt works well for absorption and long enough for long hair. You can buy these in a pack and use one for a first wrap to remove water and then exchange another for a second wrap. They dry the hair so well and it’s less time with the blow-Dryer.
I stopped dyeing my hair since 2015, started taking proper care of my hair, I have started washing my hair less frequently ( every third day), using silicone sulphate free shampoo and hair mask once a week. Limit the use of hot tool on my hair, no rubbing wet hair etc. it’s been 5 years and my hair has never been so healthy and glossy. Healthy hair makes me look youthful and healthy.
I know! Riiight???! LOL! I have decided to take a different approach month ago and asked myself "Does anyone pay me to be stressed?" The answer is "NO", so "I'm not going to do it for free anymore."
My 13 year old daughter has SJIA and recently started shedding lots of hair...soon after we noticed the hair loss she ended up with a major flare up. This all is beginning to make sense. These flares put her body under a lot of stress and there are lots of things going on inside of her body before and during these flares. Thanks for the great info!
Last august I am pretty certain I experienced extra hair shedding from a traumatic/upsetting experience (a haircut that went too short and stress)... and I am still recovering from that... I really miss my lengthy hair, I had gotten it very dense and healthy... and I hope it won't take years to recover the density and fullness I reached :(

I cringe when I think of my childhood when I had long hair & all there was for ponytails were rubberbands ! They caused so much breakage....but what could you do? It's all we had then. I wouldn't dream of using a rubberband now!! I recently got some bamboo sleep beanies that are lined in satin. I got the idea from Andrea & her sleep bonnet. My hair isn't tangled in the mornings now ! My hair is baby fine & tangles easily....so I'm grateful for that tip ! I use a microfiber towel that has an elastic loop & button to wrap around my head after shampoos. I have to comb it while it's wet but use a very wide tooth comb. I rarely blow my hair dry. Don't use dry shampoo. Don't use hair spray. Don't use styling products. Thank you for all the information you share!
I bought a Halo last week from zala , The hair quality is great. I took them to my hair stylest and she blended them with my hair. I purchased the 20 inch knowing they would be a bit long for me. Once I got the trimmed, they looked great! I highly recommend these extensions ladies!
I've found the kitchen towels that are called flour sack towels work great on days I wash my hair. They are large for a tea towel, light weight and 100% cotton.
I wanted to thank you for all the information that you have shared as a dermatologist on your TH-cam channel. I have watched you for years. What are your thoughts on using a wide tooth comb to spread your conditioner evenly throughout your hair? Is it just better to avoid doing that altogether?
Over 5 years of attending doctors saying "My hair is falling out. Please help me" to have them laugh in my face as I had volume still because of my curls. I now have about 15% of my hair left. Finally someone mentioned a thyroid function test and a possibility of damage to pituitary gland. Back for blood tests on Monday. Recent brain scan already on file with them for examination also.
For Swimming. I've read that wetting hair first with regular water before going in the pool, will prevent your hair from soaking in the chlorinated water as muchas dry hair would. Note sure if its works but sounds like it may help.
I don't do any of these things and my hair still looks like crap. I saw the other day an asian girl with completely bleach blonde hair and it looked softer and nicer than my slavic hair. I have stopped bleaching for 1.5 years now and the damaged hair on the ends is almost all grown out and gone, so this is helping. I wear silk scrunchies and sleep on a silk pillow case (real silk, not cheap polyester people buy on amazon thinking its real silk). I almost never blow dry it because I shower before bed and it air dries over night. I would say I have a moderate amount of stress in my life so that could be it. Coconut oil only makes my hair more dry so that's a no. Still trying to figure it out!
I am wondering if those UV protection sprays for your hair are actually worth it or not. I never tried it because I don‘t want to put unnecessary products on my hair, so I really would be interested in your opinion on that! Thanks a lot for your videos
Tamara uv protection sprays might provide some protection but keeping your hair covered provides the best protection. I thought I had medium brown hair (I live in Australia where there is a hole in the ozone layer), I’ve been covering my hair for over a year now and my new growth is almost black in colour.
There was a study that showed more damage is done when hair is dried on air instead of drying it with low heat blowdryer. Lee, Y., Kim, Y-D., Hyun, H-J., Pi, L-Q., Jin, X., & Lee, W-S. (2011). Hair shaft damage from heat and drying time of hair dryer. Annals of Dermatology, 23, pp. 455-462.
Such a good question. Prompted me to use TSAL. I’ve noticed a huge difference in itchy scalp and overall scalp health. I’m having a lot of flyaways so I’m wondering if it’s contributing to those or it’s hair that’s grown due to less inflammation!
Just FYI, shipping is NOT FREE as stated in the description box. I purchased a bundle for $65. Dr. Dray’s discount took off $9.75 but I was still charged $4.95 for shipping 😕
Just ordered my bundle of Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee Mix. So regular ☕ for some reason makes me breakout. I've tried this one before, I used to buy the single packets and I never noticed breakouts after drinking it for weeks. The bundle is the way to go. It literally comes out to less 75 cents a cup 🤩 Gracias Dr. Dray 🤗
I think it just seems like it because long hair fills the brush up or makes a bigger pile simply from the fact that it's longer therefore more of it. For example as a visual aid, take a bunch of ribbons cut into as long lengths as your hair and make a pile. Then take the same number of ribbons, but cut into a shorter lengths like shorter hair and make a pile. The long ribbons look like more strands in the pile even though there are the same exact number of ribbons in each pile.
I have found the longer I go without washing it, the more I shed. I generally wash my hair daily but if I go an extra day, even more hair is in the drain. It's like a sea of hair :-((
@@RedLikeWine maybe it's 1) we shed about 50-100 hair stands in a *day* so when u go an extra day without washing its the sheds of the two days or 2) you use alot products on your scalp

Question about telogen effluvium...I experienced my "first round" of this 10 years ago when I turned 30. I've since experienced 2 or 3 rounds of it since. While I do go through periods of stress, I wonder if once you have your first experience of TE, won't all those new hairs be on the same cycle, hence they will always fall out at the same time causing you to forever go through periods of diffuse hair loss? Thank you for your help!
Omg, i have no idea that tight hair styles / or using styling products can ruin your hair. And I also when i got out from the shower i use a towel to rubbed my hair. Ok, from now on thats a big no no for me. Thank you so much Dr Dray. Hugs all the way from AZ
Before swimming, you can saturate the hair cuticle by wetting your hair before putting on your swim cap. Even better, apply a couple drops of conditioner.
A hairdresser told me to not air dry the hair, because it's so feeble and delicate when it's damp. So she suggested to blow-dry it but not too hot. She also said that curly hair is an expiration where it's better to let it air dry.
Yes it can. Try to limit tight hairstyles as much as possible. I know that isn't the best in the summer but it saves your hair and especially imo your scalp. 💜
Doing almost all of them correctly. Only no uv-protection and I use mousse. I don't "dry" my hair (letting it drip and after a few minutes putting it gently in a towel, no friction), no heat, no combing, just some mousse and parting with my fingers. Makes my hair fall a bit wavy, so looks good. Day 2 is when I comb my hair so it falls nicer, more voluminous. Sleep in a loose scrunchy-bun to avoid friction. Just started using conditioner after years of not using it (because my hair is longer and pregnancy makes it static). Now... How do I prevent/reduce postpartum hairloss??? Last time it was SO bad, I still believe I lost half my hair, that I cut it in a short bob. But during that pregnancy I had the longest en fullest hair I ever had had, so I kinda regretted it. This time I do not want to cut it again pp. I feel like the short bob doesn't fit me anymore, it ages me now I have less glow and more wrinkles.
I have classic length wavy/curly hair (this just means over the booty). I clarify (sulfate) wash every wash, which is weekly, and I do lather the lengths as I use styling products on my lengths every week and it needs to come off well (no drying alcohols in my gels). I am pretty careful though, but after 10+ years of this routine, I have no problems. I have never "rubbed" my hair with a towel. My mom taught me that early on. I use a home-made microfiber turbie towel because my hair is so long (big sports bathtowel, folded in half and sewn shut on one side). Because of my texture I do have to brush it damp, before I put my stylers in. I typically towel dry 30 minutes, air dry 2-4H, and then "diffuse" for 5 minutes until my roots are dry (important for my seborrheic dermatitis that it is fully dry within a certain amount of time). I wear buns when I'm up (not tight, I do a "Nautilus bun" with a hair fork) and my hair down for sleep.
I don't even use shampoo. This also means I can't use other hair products since shampoo is needed to remove them (silicones are evil). I have to get creative with heatless styling, but the health of my hair has never been better. It's never frizzy anymore, it's never oily and I never feel anxious that "wash day" is coming up
I do all these things and they work. You won’t see results in 1 month or 2 or 3 maybe around 4 months you’ll start to see progress. I take pictures of my hair every month to see the progress and I’ve been doing these things for over a year now and my hair has been growing like never before. One of the biggest things though that she didn’t mention here if you’re growing out your hair, while scalp health is VERY important, it’s also very important to keep the ends of your hair as healthy as possible. That’s where most of the breakage happens and why some people don’t see growth because while you’re hair is growing on top your ends keep breaking off and you never see length. I have short hair so I buy the small little packs of expensive hair masks and alternate each product every time I wash my hair as a deep conditioner, I only use a dime size amount so they can last me up to 2 months. Every time I feel my ends getting dry I condition them. Following all these tips your hair will grow it’s just going to take time. Also STOP DYING YOUR HAIR.
I had 7 surgeries in 5 weeks and my hair suffered ..the Dr told me it can take up to 5 years for all the antibiotics and antistatic to go out of your body and your hair to recover... my hair was beginning to grow back and was becoming thicker but I had a very bad perm that broke most of my hair off at the scalp..its been a year and its barely grown back...Now my once beautiful hair is scraggly and dry..Help!
After I got covid in 2020. I lost sense of smell and taste, I lost more than that a few months after getting over covid I lost 40% of my hair through shedding. It was terribly I din't think it would ever stop falling out. I had beautiful long natural silver/grey shinny hair. It became flyway and stringy, a stylist colored it and put highlights in, I wanted to forget what covid did to my hair. My hair grows really fast, I don't see any new hair growth at the moment. But Thank God the shedding has stopped. I'm looking into the Red LED Light Treatment.

I was really happy you said it’s not horrifying if you do brush your hair damp if you have textured or curly hair. As a curly air person I have to brush it after a shower.
just be very gentle and use a brush made for wet hair or a wide tooth comb. I brush my hair when its wet with conditioner in it, starting from the ends and then moving up to the roots so that you dont break/pull out any hair. I then detangle it again after its towel dried.
I quit using a hairdryer as much as possible years ago. I also quit cleaning out my ears and no longer produce massive amts of wax. Randomly they will itch, I take a tissue and my pinky tip and wipe it out and it's all good. Then when I wash my face in the shower i wash the cartilage parts. You'd be shocked at how damaging cleaning your ears is!
TL;DR
1. Rubbing shampoo to the length of your hair (scalp only!)
2. Skipping conditioner
3. Rubbing your hair with a towel (use a t-shirt!)
4. Getting run-down / stressed / poor nutrition
5. Brushing or combing wet hair
6. Always using a hair dryer
7. Not protecting your hair from UV
8. Not rinsing your hair of pool water (wear a swim cap!)
9. Tight hair styles (extensions included!)
10. Using hair products that offer long lasting hold

It’s just more appropriate.”
The reason I started growing my hair after a disastrous pixie cut was that I saw my 87 year old grandmother, who usually wore her hair in a neat bun, brushing her hair after a nap.
So glad you've recovered now. And you do look much younger than your age, from your profile photo. I mean, if that's a current photo.
So very sorry for your loss. We lost my MIL at the beginning of May. We miss her dearly.
MickiMc , Thank you. My condolences to you as well. I miss mom dearly as well.

After studying for the bar exam, even my eyebrows started falling out and my hair got so thin. It took my brows years to recover.
Oh dear, so stressful. I hear there is a real difficulty in sitting for the Bar this year in most states due to Corona :/
I took the bar in 2011 but yes, I feel bad for this year’s grads. A stressful experience made exponentially worse by COVID.
I'm so sorry! I hope things are better for you sweetheart!
Before Uni I used to have perfect thick eyebrows. Now three years into uni I have whore eyebrows and honestly is really sad
Yup. Curly girl here too! I'd never get a comb through my hair if I didn't detangle it in the shower with conditioner! :)
Exactly. Same here. Sometimes I brush before washing but still usually you can brush only when its wet.
Completely agree Loraine💞
Happy Tuesday, Doc and everyone.
My hair is much better shape since COVID 19 hit. I rarely do anything but shampoo, condition, and air dry. My skin is also loving lockdown, due not wearing makeup and staying out of the sun, more.
I have more time, less clock watching, so have really got a daily routine of caring for myself down.
I’m an SPF addict, finally finding products I love, after trying new ones, mainly recommended by you.
You look lovely,. I’m hoping to hear good news of your mom and Tybee, soon!
Thanks for all you do for us!
My hair sheds SO much. I'm surprised I'm not bald.
I always have to clean out my shower drain -_-
Same here! :( i just started to take “priorin” from bayer.... hope it works
Me too!!! Like I legit worry every single day!
If you're hair is falling out that much have your thyroid checked.
@@kimberleydawn6110 was just going to say that.
Colouring and bleaching doesn’t do lasting damage.
But it can sensitise your scalp. That’s what happened to me, sadly :(
@@jourdainjardin846 theyre applied to the scalp in most cases so your scalp could have lasting damage. Healthy hair comes from the scalp doesnt matter if you shave it all off and grow it back. Thats why people with sensitive scalps should be careful.
Jourdain Jardin Of course it does, chemicals will always cause lasting damages that you may not notice until later on.
@@ninalou4629 I agree, my cousin had lung cancer and her oncologist told her to stop using hair dyes. I think they believe that is a danger.
I put conditioner on my strands then let it sit and THEN wash my scalp with shampoo.
Interesting. What are the benefits you’ve seen from doing that vs shampooing first then conditioning?
Sam S I notice the conditioner rinses out of my hair better and this prevents the conditioner from weighing my hair down afterwards. I have really thick and straight hair and my strands are softer since I switched because I’m more likely to use conditioner this way.
That’s a great idea! I am going to do this
Sam S this is also a great way of protecting your ends from the harshness of the shampoo!
I love this idea - it sounds perfect for my thick hair.
I have long thick frizzy hair (like that witch in American Horror Story, Coven!). I've started conditioning my hair first, then washing, then conditioning the lower 2/3. It really helps with breakage for my coarse hair type.
Great tips! Thanks for your videos!!
I know frizzy hair thanks
Clicked on this video right after bleaching my hair, dying it magenta and heat styling it three times a week like I don’t know damn well why my hair is messed up

It's comforting to hear some of these tips that I have already implementing because of traction alopecia that I noticed because of tight buns
Dr Dray please make a video on your experience with eczema and how long did flare up last. Your words are more comforting than anyone else's
I guess that explains a lot of why my fam (some of whom are REALLY into hair) are always just so amazed at my hair and don't believe me when I tell them I literally do nothing to it
Kirsta Nadaime if I had straight hair I would never need to heat style it either😭
Wild how it only takes your hair 15 minutes to air dry. It takes mine hours
I feel like this is why a lot of men have such nice shiny hair when they grow it long, they just don't mess with it! 😅

I am wondering as well! Sun bum makes a leave in UV protectant and I’ve been looking at that one! I just don’t want my hair to look really greasy

Such a good question. Prompted me to use TSAL. I’ve noticed a huge difference in itchy scalp and overall scalp health. I’m having a lot of flyaways so I’m wondering if it’s contributing to those or it’s hair that’s grown due to less inflammation!

I feel like the longer my hair gets the more I shed
Me too
I think it just seems like it because long hair fills the brush up or makes a bigger pile simply from the fact that it's longer therefore more of it.

Agreed! Something to look forward to and enjoy every day.
A hairdresser told me to not air dry the hair, because it's so feeble and delicate when it's damp. So she suggested to blow-dry it but not too hot. She also said that curly hair is an expiration where it's better to let it air dry.
Can a tight hair style cause hair loss on the crown. I quite often wear a bun or ponytail and I’m losing hair at the crown.
Yes it can. Try to limit tight hairstyles as much as possible. I know that isn't the best in the summer but it saves your hair and especially imo your scalp. 💜
Yes I had the same problem.
Yeah it easily can.
Alison Clark i was having this problem a lot until I stopped wearing tight ponytails. My hair is now growing back.
Yes! Also try parting hair in different spots to avoid breakage and balding
Great tips Dr Dray! I recently bought a silk bonnet from amazon and its such a game changer. I no longer wake up with a frizz mess in the morning.
Katie Rotgans my hair has such a flat separated look in the back in the morning. Does the bonnet help with that?
I've stopped combing my hair when wet and keeping it in a towel for hours after a shower.
Can't get on the mushroom train - I just hate the taste. 🤷
I want to color dye my hair but I don't want to damage it, what should I do?
Sharpies? Hm. Maybe not. Perhaps henna.
I love Four Sigmatic! I just saved over $20, besides their 40% off offer, thanks to your link! Thanks, Dr. Dray
If you see me become more beautiful, that’s bec I’m watching Dr. Dray.💜
Your hair looking so healthy and thick😁❤

Wow! Any updates?
@@imperfectbells3619 yes! My hair is down to my hips now.

@@Synthpea Omg thanks for replying, and great!~
I had 7 surgeries in 5 weeks and my hair suffered ..the Dr told me it can take up to 5 years for all the antibiotics and antistatic to go out of your body and your hair to recover... my hair was beginning to grow back and was becoming thicker but I had a very bad perm that broke most of my hair off at the scalp..its been a year and its barely grown back...Now my once beautiful hair is scraggly and dry..Help!
Wonderful topic as always. You make my day. Happy Tuesday Dr dray and peeps ❤️
Happy Tuesday Reed enjoy the day !
Can high frequency or castor oils help to stimulate the loss hair on the temples from wearing tight pony tails allll the damn time 😫
Thank you for your knowledge and time 💖
hello... what is high frequency, if I may ask?
I was really happy you said it’s not horrifying if you do brush your hair damp if you have textured or curly hair. As a curly air person I have to brush it after a shower.
Doc: Don't brush wet hair
Me: sitting here just finishd brushing my hair after my shower *
just be very gentle and use a brush made for wet hair or a wide tooth comb. I brush my hair when its wet with conditioner in it, starting from the ends and then moving up to the roots so that you dont break/pull out any hair. I then detangle it again after its towel dried.
When you’ve got conditioner in the charge on the hair strand is negative which allows the strands to slip against each other
Good tip about focusing the shampoo on the scalp. Thank you!
" Hair "you go again with a great video. Thanks 😊
That’s why my hair changes color in Arizona than in nyc 😩 Dr Dray could you recommend some good swimming caps if you know 💞
