shoutout to anyone who has ever used one of those ceramic round brushes as a kid and got it stuck in their hair and had to tear it out whilst crying in pain
Niamh W I thought this was only me 😂 I thought it would curl my hair. So painful, but I cried more about the fact that we might have to cut my hair lol.
When you traumatized yourself as a child with a round brush so you don’t touch them lol yes it got tangled. Yes I had to cut it lol might revisit after this tutorial lol
I've been there. I was running late for swim lessons at my local YMCA, and couldn't find my own brush, so I grabbed my mom's round brush . I've always kept my hair rather long and back then was no exception. So, after the lesson I was in the locker room, fresh from showering out all that nasty chlorine and brushing my hair under a hand dryer (a lot of girls in my swim class would dry their hair under the hand dryer) and low and behold, my long thick red hair got all tangled every which way in that round brush. A mother of some other girl heard me bawling as I tried to get it out and helped to remove it. It took about 10 minutes to get it out and it left the mother of all rats nests in it's wake. This mother walked out with me after I finished getting ready and told my mother about why my hair looked like it had been through a tornado. Needless to say, I stay far FAR away from using a round brush myself and only let my stylist use one when she cuts my hair. After all, she's been trained on how to use one properly.
omg when I was like 6 I wanted to curl my hair so I took a round brush and tried to curl it before school. but it got stuck and my dad had to get it out, and I almost missed the bus 😂
@@savannahbrown5082 yes same! I wanted to make curls and the brush got stuck. By trying to get it out myself I made it even worse. My Mum didn't get it out either so she cut it off. I remember always wearing a hair band in school because I literally had like one really short strand of hair in the front area of my head😂😂😂
Then there's me who uses a $5 paddle brush for detangling, the shower, blow-drying, and pretty much anything I do with my hair ever. I always wondered why my natural wave is only around in the morning (before I brush my hair) lol
omg same. Went 22 years brushing my hair with a detangling comb. It's a testament to my curls that at their peak I still had 6+ ringlets after brushing. Now however my hair is dead and damaged asf from years of brushing.😑

I have used boar brushes all my life, born in the post war era, that’s a long time. At 70. My hair is still soft with a shine. Helps after a hair cut to get the curls back. Love your show and explanation.
My mom got me a Mason Pearson brush when I was little. I've had it for 40 years. It's as perfect as ever. Unless I lose it, it will last until I'm dead. I use it for smoothing back my ponytail nice and sleek.
I didn't get the hype AT FIRST, but I kept using it, and quickly was like "OK...I need some more of these." And my daughter immediately wanted her own, too. I can't imagine not having it now. It's good at teasing, but it's also the best for sectioning, and then you can also give the section a quick smoothing before doing whatever you're gonna do to it. Regular teasing combs just don't offer what the TT does.
Well uh- being in choir has taught me that most people actually do breathe wrong so Babies breathe correctly, for some reason when people grow older they start breathing wrong
i got one of those stuck in my hair as a kid and it took my mom hours to get it out. i had a small fear of hair brushes for two years after that and only really started taking care of my hair in middle shool.
One time I was having a sleepover (in 3rd or 4th grade) and as the dumbass I was let one of the girls brush my hair... With a half inch diameter round brush and she was brushing my bangs and wrapped the hair around it and since I have 3a 3b and 3c curls and we just tried pulling it until the hair started snapping off at the root and had to cut most of it off and had micro but and my hairline/forehead/scalp hurt so bad but no one could really tell bc I had so much hair and didn't do anything with it but wash then brush it dry
The ones with the soft brush bristles are ok, but the ones with hard bristles, THEY CAN FREAKING DIE IN A PIT OF LAVA WITH A YETI OR SOMETHING!!!! I got that stuck in my hair, and it took me hours and a few mental breakdowns to get out
Thank you for suggesting the wide tooth comb for curly hair! I have natural curls and they get tangled easily but I’m expected by my family to just use normal brushes so it ends up frizzing my hair- hopefully the comb will work
I have straight hair and don't own a hairbrush. I hadn't owned one in years. Only use wide tooth combs, never frizzes, don't need product, since I stopped using a brush.
everyone is talking about how they got a round brush stuck in their hair, but all i can think of is how i got a barbie comb stuck in my hair right after i had gotten it done and then i had to basically cut my bangs off and my mom never noticed.
i had a comb for my cats fur stuck in my hair at age 7 bc i was combing my cat on my bed and forgot it there then i slept on it woke up and cut my bangs where the comb was stuck to the length of like 1cm it was awful
My mom with my sister, our white Single mom neighbor, the 6 kid bulgarian family mother a floor above, the turkish mom fostering two kids in the building next to us, like literally all moms are like that lmao
I have natural curly hair and the Denman brush is a life-changer. I just use a curl cream and the Denman brush and my curls last all day. I don't know why I used to use curling iron thinking that my curls will last longer. All I needed to do was to embrace my natural curls and use the right brush.
I just ordered this exact ceramic round brush (4,5 mm) yesterday to level up my blowout game and boy, am I even more excited for it now after hearing what you had to say about it! ❤️ You can do so much with just a hairdryer and a brush there's no need for any extra hair straighteners or curling irons.
This has brought back lots of memories....yeah there’s a lot of trauma there from people like my grandma or someone always using this on me with super wild curly red hair.....so many memories😂
Pretty sure the pin in the ceramic round brush isn't just for parting. Pretty sure that it's actually for the inevitable event when you get it so tangled in your hair you're actually considering cutting it off just to have freedom again. That way you can pick out the tangles and knots with the pin and free your hair, no cuts needed!
DaNCe 5678 It is plastic, if it isn't brad would be incredibly selfish to use real human hair for mannequins that could've gone to wigs real people need.
THE DENMAN BRUSH is great for curly hair and making the curls SPRING BACK. Brush in sections, bottom-up and give a little tension when pulling it through your hair. The slight tension will make the curls spring back when drying. Brush sections once or twice each and leave it alone. That brush acts like a ribbon does when you use a pair of scissors to get that curl like a bow. ya know what I mean?
Me: *goes into the store and grabs the first black brush that I see* Also me: *nods very professionally at every single thing that Brad says in his videos*
Lol sometimes part of my brush comes undone I’m not sure how to explain but the bristle rubber bit is underneath the plastic but and sometimes it comes out when I brush too hard
When the round brush made an entrance. *war flash backs, explosions, screaming in pain, a mom trying to undo the tangled mess from not just trying to use the brush but free your hair*
A friend of my daughters did that just before an important school event and her father saved her hair by using a pair of pliers to patiently sit there for an hour pulling the bristles from the brush one by one.
My mother had a stock pile of Mason Pearson brushes, (thank goodness bc I lost 2 - my 20’s were rough) the best! 10000% worth it! Plus they literally do last a lifetime (she’s had hers for 50+)
im sure everyone has gotten their hair or somebody else's hair stuck in a round brush. those things are scary and should come with a warning and instructions to keep out of reach of children.
I use a wide tooth comb twice a week when I wash it, twoish times a month I’ll use a normal brush I got from the dollar store to get out any fairy knots or anything my fingers/comb miss but that’s it lmao.
I have curly hair and went to the “salon” my boyfriend goes to. I have 2c waves, almost 3a curls, and I was SCARRED FOR LIFE! First, I called in advance to ask if they can do a dry cut for curly hair, they said I could, then I got there, and she took me to a sink, gave me a protein treatment (I told her no silicones because I’m CG), dried my hair with a terry cloth towel and rubbed it to heck with it. THEN COMBED FROM THE TOP WITH A DANG RAT TAIL COMB. I did a reset wash when I got home, it took my hair 2 weeks to recover, this was in January, and I’m still salty about it, tbh. Sorry, this started off with me wanting to talk about rat tooth combs, but I needed to vent.
Oh my god, that sounds horrible. I literally cringed while reading this. Knowing how much time and money and effort it takes to take Kate of 2c, 3a curls, I would die if this happened to me. I know that recent there has been a scandal over DevaCurl but I find that if you go to DevaCurl certified salons, your hair turns out great. If you are not comfortable using DevaCurl products (which I’m not btw, they did a lot of damage to my hair and it’s still recovering even tho I stopped using it 4 months ago) I’m sure you can bring your own products that you use at home and the hair stylist there might have some tips and tricks that may be useful.
A lot of hairdressers have no idea how to cut and style natural curly hair. Usually they go with a "nice" iron and straighten it (frying it in the process). If you have curly hair try like her said styling it with the Denman brush (the type 3 with 7 rows), it's really awesome. I have a 2c/3a curl and it really helps it.
omg, this exact same thing happened to me! it took so long for my hair to go back to what it used to look like. after that appointment, my curls were literally SO messy. I feel like there are a lot of hairdressers who don’t understand how important it is to know how to take care of curls.
When I was a kid my mum had no idea how to style my hair (she had long, fine straight hair, I have my dad’s thick bouncy wavy hair). My grandma (who wore her hair in a short perm- think typical old lady hair lol) recommended the denman brush and it worked so well! I still use one!
Can we get advice for hair care accessories? Ie silk pillows/ caps to “protect hair”, those plastic spiral “elastics”, basically those products that are supposed to help your hair
Uma Storm do scrunchies ! they’re the best all around because they pull out minimal hair. those spiral ones are cool too but i know people prefer scrunchies .
I have a mason pearson that I bought in junior high (very early 80's) and you are not kidding - it appears it will last a lifetime! I remember scraping my allowance together for months to buy it - I think I paid about $50 for it (which at the time was still bonkers insane expensive for a hairbrush). I have managed to keep track of it through every move I've made around the US and eventually to Europe - even when I had a buzzcut or pixie, I'd often use it to stimulate my scalp though there really wasn't much hair to brush. Hands down it's a keeper! Thank you for including this masterpiece in your list :)
i see you’re using a font app for the bold, when you’re typed on youtube all you have to do for *bold* is put this sign: * - on each side of the sentence or whatever you’re typing, same thing for _italics_ . for _italics_ put this sign instead: _
this video gives me the feels with the Denman. The greatest man I ever knew, my grandfather, refused to use anything but a Denman. I always have one, but I barely use it. But still, having Brad Mondo lovin' on this brush type makes me smile. Thank you. xo.
Same, my hair is a really weird in-between texture, it goes wavy when it’s wet however the curl/wave doesn’t stay (I’ve tried several different products) but if I let my hair dry so it’s straight it gets really frizzy throughout the day. My hair is also incredibly thick oh and it tangles every 5 seconds (I think that has something to do with its waves) lol
@@its_eva Have you tried the curly girl method? We all thought my sister just had frizzy hair, but after she tried it she had these nice waves/curls. You don't need to buy expensive shampoos either, you can do it with what you have (my sister buys whatever's on sale at the grocery store).
Me: *hasn’t brushed or combed my curly hair since I was a child because I have to finger comb it* I simply MUST watch this video about brushes and combs
@@xxavianagamerxx3065 Yeah I tried that and after 12 days it got s matted that it took 5 hours to detangle so have been really forcing myself to brush at least every other day and curt mid shaft splits even though I am extremely depressed and not very functional right now,
Oh where do I start... First, I have DEFINITELY been using the wrong brushes. Second, you explained properly distributing the oils in your hair. I had a hair dresser once (Great Clips not so great...) who told me I had naturally oily roots and recommended product to help get rid of some of the oil. While my poor dry, split ends were so damaged that I had to get more cut off than I wanted. SMH. Last but not least, Brad you are amazing. I love you. You make me want to actually take care of my hair. I've always been an all natural, low maintenance kind of girl. Very little effort put in to my looks. But, you make it look so simple and actually make sense so I'm not getting lost trying to understand what you're talking about. I've fallen into so many TH-cam black holes watching your videos and I regret none of it. Looks like I'm going to start living my extra life.
@@alligator985 I'm wavy/curly and that is how I've cut my hair for years, mind you I would not recommend this cut for hairs shorter than bra strap unless you want to look like an 80s rocker dude.

I bought a dupe of Mason Pearson brush (didn't even know there's like a "legit" version, I was just buying a brush lmao) in my country when I was 11. It's one of the best items I've ever owned. I'm 23 and it still works like magic. My mom destroyed hers a couple years back so I think I'll buy her one this Christmas. You saying it's one of the best brushes to own made me squeal with happiness, knowing I have been using it for so long. And I've started using a wide comb brush as I want to keep my hair more often in their natural state and bring out my curls, so I'm goad you said it's also the bets for that! ❤ I will check out the denman brush!

The Tangle Teezer is a game changer (for me). It’s perfect for wet tangled hair and dry tangled hair. I swear by it
I didn't get the hype AT FIRST, but I kept using it, and quickly was like "OK...I need some more of these." And my daughter immediately wanted her own, too. I can't imagine not having it now. It's good at teasing, but it's also the best for sectioning, and then you can also give the section a quick smoothing before doing whatever you're gonna do to it. Regular teasing combs just don't offer what the TT does.

i got one of those stuck in my hair as a kid and it took my mom hours to get it out. i had a small fear of hair brushes for two years after that and only really started taking care of my hair in middle shool.
I use them...

THE DENMAN BRUSH is great for curly hair and making the curls SPRING BACK. Brush in sections, bottom-up and give a little tension when pulling it through your hair. Sorry, this started off with me wanting to talk about rat tooth combs, but I needed to vent.
omg lol
Feel you, scared of hairdressers.
