Personally whenever I play magyars I go cav archers and mag huszar. idk if it's the ideal every match up (doubt it is) but I tend to have high success in my magyar games whenever the game goes super late. My early game play is sop bad that it's a near auto lose if I try to play around it no matter what civ i'm playing :(
Recurve bow CA almost always and asap, unless vs lots of eagles or anti-archer infantries (huskarls, Malians infantry). In which case Paladin is your best and last resort to win you the game. You can't go infantry if you both got into imp because Magyar infantry lack last armour upgrade. In any game ideally you want to get Paladin, Magyar huszar and HCA, with all relevant upgrades. But 1v1 you hardly have enough resources for all of them so depends who you play against then prioritize. Paladin is your best population efficient unit and also melee unit. So if you need a strong melee unit get paladin, in the case of vs mongols and similar civ, until they get their camels. You should be getting Recurve bow after, especially when they are getting their camels, so your CAs are ready for them. Vs berbers well...you just have to hope your knight + CA rush in castle beat them before their camels out (camel riders + camel archers). Vs archer civs goes without saying paladin is better especially when you are winning or neutral and want to push to win. If you're playing control or defensive, getting Recurve bow is better I think, since archer civs always have pikes with them when they aren't in the backfoot, so you need your +1 range CA to deal with them effectively. Just my thoughts. Haven't played them for a while.
Fluffy Unicorn dude. You’re meant to have something in front of your CA as meatshield. Camels are weak to archers even after DE buff. So as Magyars hca is your best bet for fighting against camels. If you let them mass camels with a good camel civ, then you lost big time. Magyar is so specialised in CA and cavalry so will always lose vs any camel civ in late game. But you have a chance to beat them before that. Castle age CA rush beats camels.
Fluffy Unicorn you could and that wouldn’t be a bad decision either. I think it depends the game state you’re in to either stick with archers from feudal, or switch to ca. The comparison between the two for Magyar is that arbalest is cheaper to mass and not countered by camels, while hca has more hp for overall durability and higher attack damage per shot, and speed which can raid too. Most camel civ are weak to raids anyway. You could even argue switching between arbalest and ca throughout the game. Arbalest more vs camels, ca vs skirms and or harassing by running around. If you got lots of gold there’s no reason to stick with hca as they are population efficient. I would argue hca is better offensively even vs against camels civ as you can run away from mangonel shots or need to retreat. Arbalesters can’t retreat much in the same situation. Arbalesters are better defensively I say.
Really like the episode. Would love to see Celts next, given they're somewhat difficult to play and have awkward transitions, that and the most well known way to play it is rather all-in from Hoang.
no farms, just fish traps put all villagers to wood and gold, mass make docks and fish boats on ponds start making elaphants till imperial, then get forced levy and spam 2hand swords to protect elephants. but dont make them before then, save the gold mix some kimbit warriors to throw at enemy halbs i love the malay so much, its so OP

Ah my favorite civ to play on 4v4's. Go for a 3-4 tc boom, imp at 29-32min complete, 4-5 stable full knight spam while researching all tech, while around 50-60 cav are running to the base you get +5 attack full armory upgrades and cavalier upgrade.. Feels like the strongest early imperial age you can have tbh. The timing just fits so perfectly that you suddenly have so much value on the field you take out all players instantly.
Another Brilliant episode, thanks! In the 40 min long talking, it can't be perfect all the time and it doesn't have too! I try not to judge myself too much but it's so hard when filming. You articulate super well, you know your stuff and for us, it's so impressive! Have fun with it amigo, you have no idea how grateful we all are for what you're sharing. Maybe I'm just trying to say that we feel home and hope you do too! HeraHype HeraMTL
This is a more standard question but I noticed you build over a half dozen farms but you still had heaps of berries, yet only 4 foragers - how come you prefer farms over foraging? The farms don't have their mill upgrade in dark age so they won't last as long. Is foraging bad?
How do you feel safe having a few skirms in castle age? at that time opponent could come with 20 crossbows and mangos and you would just die, right? I struggle a lot with timing when to add army and when to go imp
Thanks for teaching me to play Malians even though you seemingly abandoned support for this game lol just getting around to this civ, theyre pretty cool! Those champskarls are tough to deal with and fun to unleash on others.
Cumans!! I’ve decided they’re my main. After this video I think Malians would be a great back up civ. I’m most interested in the civs that can move quickly and transition just as quickly.
What do you think about camels + gbeto? it seems like a very well-rounded that - unlike most other well-rounded compositions - is very mobile of course you need to have the gold
Bulgariens please! I play your 20 Pop M@A Rush and always struggle with a follow up (which might got something todo with me struggling from Midgame onwards anyways).
Can Malians be considered as an Infantry and Cavalry civ like Bulgarians? I feel like they are pretty much "Jack of All Trade" civ but limited archer option in late game for not having bracer.
They are strong in general now especially on these semi-open maps and archers are a dominant unit. And the map leads to treb wars over the gold often i guess. That said I would think mayans are the strongest civ and counter britons quite well. Mayans with mass gold units (eagle, archer, siege) are super strong and running them out of gold is not an option on this map. Britons can't do much against eagle + plumes I feel.
I kinda play a lot of malians.. a couple days ago I got matched against a mongol and predicted he would go mangudai so I swarmed him with long swords in castle age, completely ignored his mangudai and wrecked his eco.. I dont play at high level though so maybe some more experienced player would know how to respond better than my opponent did
Interesting idea. What unit would you go for though? Hand cannons seem like the easiest choice, in which case they can only do a weaker version of turks fast imp.
@@davidkiss8845 I think few people think "I wanna fast imp, lets go turks", more common is "oh i have turks, lets try fast imp" so its just another possibility that Malians offer.
